Our "Crazy Rich Asians" Story

No. We are in fact not rich, but a little crazy. But our story may sound pretty familiar if you are used to the "met in a ward at BYU, hung out together, then fell in love" story. If so, then you don't need to read any further. However, if you want the rest of the other interesting details. Keep reading for both of our perspectives on our love story. ROBERT'S POV: It all began on Valentine's Day 2023, except not as you would expect. I wanted to ask a certain girl out, but nothing serious like a first date and so I asked this girl and some other people if they wanted to hang out that night. That girl however wasn’t Trina, but one of the other people with our group was indeed Trina. I know. I had the wrong girl who I wanted to spend Valentine’s Day with. With much regret in my decision. I decided to redeem myself and asked Trina out on a date in a clever way. I got her number because we hung out one time and all we did was play GamePigeon. So I asked her with a game of “20 Questions” (which she so did not get the answer right, the word was date). We went on our first date during finals. The date went amazingly and I knew I wanted to continue going on more dates with Trina. However, I had to head off to California to do summer sales. We ended up still texting, which led to FaceTime calls, a surprise trip back to Provo for Trina’s birthday, and then we made our relationship official. After the summer, I came back and got to spend every free moment with the woman I love, and after a trip to Texas during winter break, I decided to propose to Trina on January 20th, 2024. And the rest is history.

TRINA'S POV: I first met Robert in the fall of 2022 at our Asian YSA ward. I thought to myself, "he's cute, I wouldn't mind going on a date with him." I found out he was interested in the aforementioned girl and dropped the idea. We continued to hang out in the same friend group and at some point in the spring of 2023 I realized that I always hoped to see him, whether it was at church, ward activities, or friend hangouts. I also realized that Rob was one of the few people who could make me laugh my hardest, the kind of laughs that bring true joy and make time fly by because you are having fun. Those first two dates and talking every day over the summer felt natural and easy. It was something I looked forward to. We asked each other a "Question of the Day" and found that we had a lot of hobbies and goals in common, as well as other fun facts. Ever since Rob came back from summer sales in August, time has flown by! Life has felt a little less lonely because now I have a 24/7 best friend and partner that I can confide in, find calm in after a long day, and take on adventures and challenges with. I am so grateful for Rob!
