Vanderpump Rules couple Katie Maloney and Tom Schwartz wrapped a rather tumultuous season on Monday, February 27, with an emotional two-part finale that documented their wedding day. The pair, who married last August in a beautiful forest wedding in Northern California, stopped by The Knot headquarters in New York City last week to discuss the nuptials, and here are 10 surprising facts we learned about the eventful day.

The Bride Did Not Have a Maid of Honor

“I didn’t have one. I let them all think they were maid of honor,” Maloney said. “There’s no way I could’ve picked. That would’ve been chaos. But they [all] had such strong suits in terms of what they could help me with. Stassi [Schroeder] is really good visually. She has great taste. Kristen [Doute] is a really good task manager. She’s on top of lists and phone calls and stuff like that.”

Her husband added, “She presented it as a meritocracy.”

The Groom Did Not Have a Best Man

“I didn’t have a best man either,” Schwartz added. “I’m indecisive by nature.” He did, however, have a groomsmaid—Ariana Madix, who dressed the part like the seven other groomsmen.

However, One Groomsman Was the MVP

According to the couple, Sur staple Tom Sandoval deserves all the praise--at least when it came to their nuptials. “That was the general consensus,” the groom continued. “He really knocked it out of the park… He was there for me. I only had a few moments when I felt like I was falling apart.”

The Wedding Was Far From Home—But Everything Was Sourced Locally

“It was a bit of a destination. It wasn’t local where we were married,” Maloney explained. The couple opted to get married in the middle of the woods at a venue called Twenty Mile House in Graeagle, California. The bride later added, “We sourced everything locally. We used local florists and caterers.”

Minus the officiant. Sur top boss (and long-standing Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star) Lisa Vanderpump presided over the ceremony.

"[She] was amazing by the way," Schwartz said. "She was so good."

They Appropriately Arranged Shuttles for Guests

“We didn’t have them go late enough. They would only go up to a certain time,” Schwartz told The Knot of the couple’s transportation for guests. “We ended up extending. We paid a little extra because people wanted to hang out," Maloney added. "Where we got married, there wasn’t anything for 15 miles. We didn’t want people driving. It was really dark in the mountains, so we were like, ‘Shuttles it is!’”

Her husband joked, “We wanted them to fear for their lives.”

They Had a Sweet First Look Session

“He looked dapper,” Maloney recalled, while her husband added: “She floated down there. She was glowing… She really was. I was like, ‘Oh man, she’s beautiful and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with her.’”

They Didn’t Have Seating Arrangements

"Sitting down and doing a seating arrangement, we didn’t do that," Maloney noted. "[We tried] to cut corners where we could. Also, we wanted to to feel inclusive. People to sit where they wanted to sit with [whomever] they wanted to sit [beside]."

Of course, the hosts made sure their guests were comfortable and well-acquainted with each other. Friends and family members--most from out of town--mingled at the couple's rehearsal dinner. "So by the time the reception came, people had new friends," they noted. "We wanted it to be still traditional and beautiful, but we wanted it to be a fun, laid-back party. We didn’t want it to feel stuffy."

Their Custom Cocktail Was the ‘Bubba Bomb’

“It was a shot of vodka--chilled--with a flower,” the couple explained. “It’s a flavor explosion in your mouth. Almost tart.”

The couple’s pals Sandoval and Madix found the garnish—an edible flower—that “tastes almost like sour skittles,” Maloney explained. The name for the cocktail, of course, originates from their famous pet monickers for each other: "Bubs" and "Bubba."

Katie Had a Wedding Pinterest Board Before She Was Engaged

“She told me she had a Pinterest page early on in the relationship,” Schwartz said.

As for himself? “I was a huge cynic and a big critic, but now that I’ve gone through a wedding, I’ve been converted.”

They Planned Their Wedding in 12 Weeks

“I would not recommend that even though I work great under pressure,” Maloney said. “There’s just so many things. It’s a massive undertaking.”

Schwartz added, “I was cocky. [I thought] I can do this in a week all by myself… I was wrong.”
