These Modest Wedding Guest Dresses are Perfect for a Church Ceremony
Going to the chapel? You might want to check out these modest wedding guest dresses.
Don't get us wrong, we're all for showing a little skin when the occasion allows for it, but if you're gearing up to attend a religious wedding ceremony, at a church, temple or mosque, dressing a bit more conservative is the smart way to go. Not only can it be seen as a sign of respect to the couple and their loved ones, but modest dressing can actually be really cute! No, really!
The good news is that dressing modestly doesn't mean you have to go out and buy a whole new dress (though having one on hand could definitely come in handy). There are plenty of ways to make dresses you own more appropriate for a religious setting (like adding a pashmina over your shoulders or pantyhose underneath). But if you're in the market to treat yourself (we approve), we've rounded up the best looks for every dress code and budget.

What to Look for in a Modest Wedding Guest Dress
High Neckline
There's a time and a place to show off your decolletage, and a wedding just might not be it. If you're attending a religious ceremony and are looking to cover up a bit, opt for a neckline that offers adequate coverage of your chest. Scoop necks, mock necks and turtlenecks are all great options.
Sleeves
Most modest wedding guest dresses feature some sort of sleeve, whether it be long or short. For the warmer months, you can't go wrong with a stylish flutter sleeve or puff sleeve (which are totally on trend, btw). For the fall and winter, we love long bishop or Juliet-style sleeves.
Loose Silhouette
When dressing modestly, you should avoid wearing anything overly form-fitting. It's best to save those bodycons for the bach party and instead opt for a looser silhouette, such as A-line or sheath.
Knee-Length or Longer
Although you can always make a mini dress more modest by adding tights or leggings underneath it, you should avoid wearing anything too short for a religious ceremony. A good rule of thumb is to check whether or not the dress falls at least to the tip of your fingers when your arms are by your side. However, if you're hoping to play it on the safe side, choosing a dress that's knee-length or below is always a good idea.
