Pink Opens Up About Her Marriage to Carey Hart: “He’s the Rock and I’m the Storm”

Ah, love. Grammy winner Pink opened up in a new interview about her talked-about marriage to Carey Hart, sharing some new and very real anecdotes about their marriage and how it’s affected her latest album.

"The difference between this record and a lot of other records was I was living a normal life while writing," the singer, 38, told USA Today. “Normally, since I was 19, I've gone: 'Make a record, promo, go on tour. Make a record, promo, go on tour.' It's been this cycle. This is the first time I've been like, 'Take my daughter to preschool. Go on a date with my husband.' It's real life that's been on my mind."

Hart has helped inspire a few of Pink’s greatest hits since 2001 when the couple started dating. "I don't even think he's listening half the time. He's just like, 'Good stuff, Babe,' and I'm like, 'Thanks, Honey,’” she said. The pair dated on and off for five years before marrying in 2006 in a Costa Rica wedding.

The marriage, which has certainly endured its ups and downs, is good because the two work for it. “He’s really good," she told the paper. "He knows when he goes too far and he'll apologize, which is a wonderful trait in a human being. I do not possess that trait: I will go too far and still not apologize. It's awful to be married to me. He's the rock and I'm the storm, but it's fun."

In a separate interview with The Guardian, the “You Make Me Sick” songstress elaborated with some examples. “There are moments where I look at [Carey] and he is the most thoughtful, logical, constant… He's like a rock. He's a good man,” she said. “He's a good dad. He's just the kind of dad I thought he'd be and then some.”

Which isn’t the case every day. “And then I'll look at him and go, 'I've never liked you. There's nothing I like about you. We have nothing in common. I don't like any of the s**t you like. I don't ever wanna see you again.' Then two weeks later I'm like, things are going so good, you guys. Then you'll go through times when you haven't had sex in a year. Is this bed death? Is this the end of it? Do I want him? Does he want me?’”

The two share a 6-year-old daughter named Willow and 9-month-old son Jameson. “Monogamy is work! But you do the work and it's good again,” she concluded to the Guardian. “I just try to laugh as much as possible. And we go through moments where honestly I look at him and I think, 'I've never liked you at all, there's nothing I like about you, I've never liked you, I'll never like you again'. And then five minutes later I'm like, 'You look really good in those jeans.’”
