Sloane Stephens' Wedding Dress Details
Stephens knew she wanted Galia Lahav's team to design her dream dress. "Sloane was an absolute dream to work with," says Sharon Sever, head designer of the brand. "She was very open and expressive about her ideas and what she wanted to look like on her big day. We really wanted her to feel like the main character and just radiate the glow she already embodies."
Over the duration of one month, the dress was meticulously designed by the Galia Lahav team. "It went through seven different hands," affirms Sever. "From pattern cutting to hand embellishments to creating the matching cape and the extra-long veil."

The resulting gown was unique and still modern—especially as it featured one of the hottest dress trends of the 2020s: a cape, which signifies resilience and majestic splendor, worn recently by the likes of Lily Collins (albeit, in more of a fairytale-style) on her mountain-themed wedding day and Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton during a 2021 movie premiere. "The design is for a bold and confident bride that wants to do something different and stand out," explains Sever. "The cape is such a powerful and glamorous addition to a wedding gown and just gives off a regal vibe."

Altidore and Stephens turned to Sara Lowell of Sara Renee Events to plan and execute their wedding day. Photographer Stanley Babb of StanLo Photography captured intimate moments from the ceremony, including shots of Altidore streaming tears while his wife walked down the aisle.

As high school sweethearts, they've been together for over a decade.
The venue of choice was the St. Regis Bal Harbour in Miami Beach, Florida. The momentous occasion culminated after an especially challenging year in 2021. Stephens lost both her grandparents within the time frame of a week. "I empathize with all the COVID couples out there who have had to make the tough calls and be flexible with the ever-changing pandemic," Stephens told People. "We've all had to be super flexible, and I appreciate how accommodating our loved ones have been in making sure we have as safe and special a day as possible."
Sloane Stephens' Wedding Veil
The Olympian chose an elaborate accessory for her walk down the aisle. "The veil was so beautiful and special. It really complimented the cape without taking away from it or from the dress," Sever tells The Knot. "We really wanted Sloane to have the ultimate 'wow' factor from every angle especially when walking down the aisle. It was extra long and made out of silk tulle as she wanted a big dramatic moment."
Sloane Stephens and Jozy Altidore's Love Story
The pair first met in prep school while competing in their respective sports, but it took years for their paths to finally intertwine romantically. Altidore is a celebrated athlete on the US Men's National Soccer Team. Stephens was the 2017 US Open champ.
"She is somebody who gets everything I am going through without having to say anything," Altidore told People. "You look at each other and you kind of know right away if one of you is annoyed. She just kind of gets the mood I'm in, as obviously she lives a very similar kind of life… In that regard it works really well, there is no stress. She is a successful athlete and I do okay, and we just enjoy our time together when we are together."
