Myrna was a wedding dress life saver ! She took a difficult dress situation and turned it around for me. My dress was simple and modern with a bust that took a lot of work. She worked with me to manage the tight turnaround and always made me feel confident that the dress was going to come together , and it did! I also brought her pieces of my mom and mother in laws wedding dress to sew inside my dress and inside my husbands suit . A special little detail that she went above and beyond to help execute . As if that wasn’t enough, I decided to bring an after party dress to her as well last minute . She hand cut the dress in front of me and it was exactly as I envisioned. She brought in the bust and voila ! Dress #2 came alive . Her gentle manner and confidence in her craft made me feel at ease during a very stressful time. I felt absolutely beautiful on my wedding day and all the special touches Myrna helped do with the dress and the suit meant so much to our families . I highly recommend going to Myrna for your wedding dress alterations . She is a joy to work with and I trusted her implicitly with one of the most important elements of my big day . Thank you Myrna!

I went to Marva at the 60th street location, and she did an excellent job on my dress! I bought a pre-owned Zuhair Murad dress and hoped for the best, but the dress fit terribly and I was close to starting over, but Marva was confident that she could fix it. We had several fitting and she made it fit perfectly! Marva is very talented and I would highly recommend.

I took my James Alexander wedding dress to be taken and had lace sleeves added. Humberto was so precious during the entire process. He was so calm, patient, precise, personable, and enthusiastic. I recall changing my mind about my busy restructuring, and he had no issues changing the course. My dress came out beautifully! He even helped us pick out the perfect veil to wear with my dress. Thank you, Humberto, for making this one of the least stressful portions of the wedding planning journey! Note: it will get pricy.

I found this vendor through word of mouth, and they did a wonderful job. I had my wedding dress taken in on the sides and the straps shortened, the work was done quickly and I’m satisfied with the dress. They also fixed a cape with intricate beading and sewing, that my cats had scratched a hole in. It looked wonderful, and I’m very happy with it.

I came to Alberto with two wedding dresses, one a simple slip that he tailored perfectly without loosing any details. The second was far to big and i came in not being in love with it. By the time I left it felt like an entirely different dress. It fit me so perfectly. It’s completely strapless and is so well tailored that it doesn’t move a centimeter! On top of that Alberto was incredibly sweet and a pleasure to work with. I will be going back in October to shorten my first dress into an year round wearable piece and will be requesting him!

Humberto at Alts Williamsburg did an incredible job tailoring my wedding dress! He helped me to feel my most confident in my dress and did amazing work in a short amount of time. Alts is great because they have many locations throughout the city and transparent alterations pricing. Highly recommend!

I needed a last minute fix to my after party dress to make it fit right , it’s a flapper-style dress with lots of beading so I knew I needed an experienced tailor…the team did an incredible job in record time! Bi i is so lovely and was wonderful to work with. Thank you!!

Awful bridal experience. My weight and my body was constantly questioned and they kept telling me how “my body would be changing a lot over the next few months”, regardless of the fact that I did not share any plans to lose weight. I had five appointments and on the fifth one, two days before the wedding, my dress was still not ready. I would come in early for my appointment and only be seen 30 minutes after my time. Front desk always seemed inconvenienced by my questions: Would not recommend.

I worked with Maryse at the UES location for my wedding gown alterations last year. Her work was absolutely exquisite on my Reem Acra gown, with beautiful attention to the lace detailing and to the lines of the gown. My gown fit like a glove on the wedding day and it felt like it was custom made. She also repurposed my gown into a cocktail dress (at the West Village location) after the wedding. Maryse is wonderful to work with, and I cannot recommend her highly enough!

I would leave no stars if I could. Absolutely DO NOT use this place. I took a very expensive bridesmaid dress. They ruined it and now I’m at a loss of what to do other than have to buy a new one. They took in the top of the dress at just one side (vs evenly on both sides) which made no sense and made the whole dress pull in that direction. They told me they would unpick it - their attempt has made the dress messy and seam looks stretched but also they definitely haven’t put it back to how it was and the top doesn’t fit right at all. They made a separate alteration to the front part which they did differently to how we discussed and had to be altered another two times and looks also very messy and unprofessional. Given up on that being fixed as they have also shortened the dress far too much which obviously can't be fixed. They were rude and treated me like it was my fault but I was extremely specific about what I wanted. Plus they wasted my time making me go back and forth there multiple times promising to make the dress longer which obviously wasn’t going to happen. When I asked how they could increase the length, I was told it was a secret and to trust them. Each time I went back, there was no noticeable difference. They charged a fortune to ruin a very expensive dress. I’m going to have to replace it since I'm a bridesmaid so the dress is very specific and they won't refund me or pay for the replacement dress. The entire experience has been very upsetting and anxiety inducing. A friend also went and they had to replace a top of hers THREE times and still made a mess of it. Go somewhere else.

Alts has my heart. I worked with Humberto on alterations for my intricate Reem Acra wedding dress and he listened to all my asks, offered expert advice, and did an impeccable job. I have just picked up my finished dress and I am for the first time getting emotional for the big day. Humberto puts his heart and soul into his work and he has made this process and my wedding so special. I’ll add photos after my actual wedding in a few weeks!

Diana did an amazing job with my wedding dress and custom made veil! I can’t recommend her enough, it was a wonderful experience.

I only have incredible things to say about Marva at the UES location. She truly saved my wedding. A month before my wedding, I decided I hated my wedding dress and decided to buy a new dress off the rack, which needed some major alterations and a bustle. I was nervous no tailor would be able to get the job done in time with only 4 weeks to go. The minute I met Marva, she assured me she could get the job done, and she held true to her word. She brought the dress in two sizes, cut it to the proper length, added cups, and created a bustle in three weeks, giving me one extra week to spare. On my wedding day, everybody kept complimenting me on how perfectly the dress fit my body. I cannot thank Marva enough!! I highly recommend going to the UES location and requesting her! Thank you Marva!

I planned my wedding in two months and needed adjustments to my wedding gown. I was losing hope that I wouldn't look like how I envisioned. I made my appointment with Alteration Specialist (Soho Location) and everything changed! After my initial meeting with Humberto I immediately felt at ease, not only is he an expert but he is also very kind and patient. All my brides here know how stressful the wedding planning process can be and sometimes you need that reassurance and this is what Humberto and staff were able to provide. With only a month away from the big day, Humberto was able to make all the adjustments and more! I was able to customize my dress to my liking and it looked exactly how I envisioned, it was perfect! Thank you Humberto and team. I loved my entire experience with you all and I'm looking forward to going back.

I bought my dress in March 2020 right before lockdown, and took it to Ben at the Union Square location in April 2022. I’d gained some weight in the intervening two years, and the dress was missing some buttons and beading, so lots of work needed to be done. Ben was able to widen the bodice by using fabric cut from the skirt (I’m very short), and the alterations were practically invisible! He also let my mother and I take other discarded fabric from the train (we had an outdoor ceremony, so I decided it didn’t make sense to keep) so I was able to make a simple cape veil for myself. I was able to take the dress home in late July, much earlier than I expected, and felt absolutely beautiful on my wedding day! The work wasn’t cheap, but the quality and attention to detail was absolutely worth it.

Alteration specialists were wonderful to work with. Such a pleasant experience and much more accommodating than the department stores! So glad I chose them for my bridal fittings. Marva was so detailed and caring. Highly recommend her!

I worked with Dhurata to tailor a dress for my bridal shower. I had a dress from years prior that I thought would be perfect, but needed a more modern refresh. Dhurata worked with me to bring my vision to life, and came up with creative ideas I hadn’t even thought of in real time, which looked both gorgeous and timeless. She was very friendly and helpful throughout the process, and really knows her stuff. Excited to see how it comes out!

I am so thrilled with my experience here and particularly with Iryna in the West Chelsea location. I had a wedding dress in need of major alterations that I thought were beyond repair (holes, frayed fabric, zipper broken, and I also needed it to better fit my frame and height and make it more conservative). Iryna worked magic and she is so calm, friendly, understanding, and kind. She is also very talented and humble, and had an eye for how to repair the dress, first checking with me on what I was comfortable with. She made me feel comfortable and worked very quickly (in a matter of days) because I needed a rush due to some unexpected circumstances. I highly recommend Iryna and I appreciate her so much. She is fabulous and I would trust her to alter for me again. The rest of the staff at West Chelsea and the boutique generally were also quite professional.

I am so happy I found Myrna and the Alteration Specialists team in Williamsburg. I initially was referred to them to have my silk wedding dress (by Galvan London) altered, and Myrna did a fantastic job taking it in and hemming it as needed. It fit me perfectly. Myrna was also just a joy to visit with and I felt I could trust her for her expert opinion. After this experience she will be my go to for alterations.

BRIDES....PLEASE STOP YOUR SEARCH FOR YOUR WEDDING DRESS ALTERATIONS AND SEE MARVA AT ALTERATION SPECIALISTS ON MADISON!! After purchasing a very expensive dress from a wedding dress designer in California, I was desperate for some significant alterations (the designer refused to do them as part of a contract I signed) and did not know where to turn. Thanks to a recommendation from a NYC based bridal shop, I came to Alteration Specialists praying that my dress could be fixed. Courtney, one of the receptionists, was hands down one of the most welcoming, kind, and organized people I have ever worked with. She was confident that my dress could be fixed, and connected me with Marva immediately. Throughout several appointments, Marva was meticulous, understanding, and her work was absolutely remarkable. She completely revised my dress-- reworking a drop-waist into a more natural waist, fixing tiny pleats into more elegant larger ones, and adding more details to the top and back of my dress. She was patient, listened to what I wanted, and was adamant about not rushing, but instead focused on getting it right. My dress turned out perfect, and it was all because of her. If you are out there looking for a seamstress, PLEASE, do not waste your time at other places and visit Marva at this location. I cannot recommend her enough!!

I could not be more disappointed in my experience here. I will not be returning. I paid in full for the agreed upon price of my alterations at the time of dropping my dress off. When I picked up my dress, there was an additional $70 in surprise charges that I suddenly owed. Had in been informed about this additional cost before the alterations had been completed and been able to decide whether or not to move forward would be one thing, but I was never notified. Do yourself a favor and go to another tailor.

Marva and the entire team at The Alteration Specialists UES location went above and beyond to ensure my wedding dress fit perfectly! I came to them in a panic a month before my wedding because my gown came in super late and I was dissatisfied with the service at the bridal salon where I purchased my gown. Marva took my extremely complicated (Suzanne Neville) custom-order gown and brought the waist up, shortened the straps, added bra padding, altered the hemline, and created a perfect bustle! She even sewed in a hand-embroidered, sentimental patch of “something blue” into my gown at no extra cost. I’ve already recommended Alteration Specialists UES to all my friends and family with upcoming weddings and events. My fiancé came to get his tux shirt altered here too. In addition to the high quality of the alternations themselves, the front desk team is super organized and sends you calendar invites for each fitting. Pricing was a few hundred dollars cheaper than the bridal salon where I bought my dress too! All-in-all an incredible, seamless experience that made the weeks leading up to my wedding so much less stressful. Thank you so much, Marva and team!!

She altered my dress and additional skirt for my dress PERFECTLY. I could not be happier with her work and will continue to recommend her to everyone!

I had 3 different pieces altered by Alteration Specialists: -A dress for a small family church ceremony -My main wedding dress -A jumpsuit to change into for the reception. They did a wonderful job with all 3 pieces. Expertly altered, done on time, and all questions, no matter how small, were addressed. As a heads up, there was a little bit of sticker shock at the price. (But I guess considering this is located on 5th Avenue in Manhattan that shouldn't have come as a surprise?) However, the quality was unparalleled. I did go back for a bridesmaid dress alteration I needed for a friend's wedding about a year later and the alteration was actually more expensive than the dress- so perhaps get a bridesmaid dress done elsewhere? But for your own wedding dress, worth the price and expertise. This place will do a great job based on my experience!

This is a review of their Tribeca location. I brought my wedding dress here to be altered after seeing them recommended in reviews for other places by people who came here after being unhappy with other tailors they had tried. Myrna and her staff were professional, kind, and accommodating. Their shop was clean and they did an excellent job with my wedding dress. The skirt of my dress had many layers with various lengths so it could not be shortened traditionally by taking from the bottom. Alteration Specialists problem solved to figure out a way to shorten my dress by sewing up sections to the waist (sort of like a bustle but sewn instead of buttoned). Speaking of bustles, they did an excellent job with the bustle of my dress. The many layers made this complicated, as did the fact that the skirt fabric was rather see-through and I didn't want the loops and buttons to show. They did a perfect job and my dress looked beautiful. I was able to easily walk and dance in it all night. My dress came with a tag saying it could not be steamed so Myrna took the time to iron every layer and fold, which I'm sure was quite laborious given the amount of fabric on the dress. While they are pricey, no more than any other dress alteration place in NYC, and the quality of their work makes the price worth it.

The vendor was punctual with completing the work (one month, total, with an intermediate fitting) and the alterations that Orlena suggested made an incredible difference in the way my dress fit. The team did an incredible job altering my dress by hand - the stitched adjustments to the lace and upper body weren't perceptible - and also did a great job adjusting the hem to match my desired height while maintaining the character of the dress. I would recommend their services.

Can't say enough about these guys and how great their work is. I decided to bring my wedding dress to them to get altered based on their glowing reviews and couldn't have been happier. They were friendly, adaptable and accommodating and really showed passion for their craft. I will definitely be coming back for any important alteration needs.

Best tailors in New York City. I found them on Yelp and they were the highest rated. Experience, craftsmanship and work quality are amazing. I started out with my expensive tux altered here and was very happy with the fitting and results. The tux fits like a custom tux now. I've gotten so many compliments. It is worth every penny to get any nice garments altered by these tailors at Alteration Specialists of NY. They are best-in-class tailors and alteration experts! I have since had many suits and jackets altered here to perfection. Highly highly recommended!

Nigel and his team at Alteration Specialists took my slinky Nicole Miller wedding dress down 2 dress sizes flawlessly! They are clearly experts in the field and are very familiar with her designs in particular, as they made an intricate job look easy. On top of that, Nigel was so much fun to work with! I would highly recommend their services.
