We had such a wonderful experience at Arthur Murray Dance School, thanks to our amazing teacher Ciara! She made it fun and easy for us to learn the choreography for our first dance at our wedding. Ciara was incredibly patient and encouraging, even though we were beginners. She broke down the steps in a way that made us feel comfortable and confident on the dance floor. The entire process was so enjoyable, and by the end, we had a beautiful dance routine we were excited to perform. We highly recommend both Arthur Murray and Ciara to anyone looking to prepare for a special occasion!
My husband and I worked with Angelina as our coach for three bride &groom first dance sessions and she was absolutely fabulous. She made us feel so comfortable and gave us some classy and gorgeous moves for our dance repertoire. Can’t wait to get footage from our wedding videographer to see them in action. I highly recommend working with this studio, and with Angelina in particular, whether you’re looking for some quick polishing sessions for your first dance or if you want something super snazzy and choreographed.
Sam and the staff at Arthur Murray River North were incredible fun to work with! My husband and I purchased a package of classes for our first dance choreography and worked closely with Sam on the best dance style for our unique, upbeat first dance. Sam made us feel so comfortable and at ease, we had a blast working with her!
My husband and I took dance lessons at the River North studio leading up to our wedding to prepare for our first dance. Neither of us had much dancing experience and our song was a little unconventional, so we wanted to work with an instructor to make sure we looked confident and had good choreography. Kaylee was our instructor and she was great to work with - she was always high energy and fun and she developed a great choreography for us that we felt proud of.
Two areas that would have made our experience better were:
1. Price - I was shocked when they first showed us pricing. In the end, it ended up being way more expensive than we had planned for, but we enjoyed ourselves during the lessons.
2. Atmosphere - the studio isn't very big and there were often other couples dancing in the room to their own music at the same time as us. Given the amount we were paying, it would have been nice to have a room to ourselves so that we could consistently use our own music.
Overall, we loved Kaylee and were happy with our dance. If you don't mind the price, I would recommend it!
We went to 2 lessons because we won them free, but we didn't go back. They cost us $130 for a 45min lesson. It was fun but not worth the money.
We went to the Arthur Murray in Rockford b/c we wanted to do a choreographed dance for our first dance at our wedding. Tera made our lessons SO FUN and learning so fun, we were so very happy with the routine she made for us, everyone was SOO impressed with our dancing skills LOL. I remember right before we went on to the dance floor, my mind felt like it went blank and I didn't think Id remember any of it, but she had trained us so well, that once the music came on we did it without messing up once! Going to these dance classes the 3 months leading up to our wedding has become probably the fondest memories I have of the pre-wedding time, because it was something we got to do together to prepare for the wedding and brought us so much joy. We've signed on for the next level/series to learn a more broad range of dances to use in Chile for our honeymoon in Dec! Hopefully will be lifelong dancers because of this experience. Thanks so much!!
Love love love the dance instructors here. I came here after my parents have been attending classes for several months to get ready for my upcoming wedding and had such a great lesson. Everyone is so friendly, and it feels like such a supportive, team environment-- not judgmental or competitive at all. I only wish there was a larger mirror, and more floor space. More rooms would be great so people could play their songs all the way through. But even though the space is imperfect, the atmosphere in the studio is the best around!
My stepdad and I worked with Jeff for our dance and he was an awesome teacher. I seem to have two left feet when it comes to ballroom dancing but he was great to work with and our dance went great! Thanks, Jeff!
My husband and I won two free private lessons and decided to use them to learn a dance for our first dance at our recent wedding. We were lucky to work with Terence Stewart at Arthur Murray, who took the time make sure we perfected our dance, as well as map out our venue's dance floor so we knew our steps exactly! Overall, the service and friendliness of the staff at AM Chicago is the best!
My husband and I wanted to do a Tango for our first dance. We wanted it to be flashy and sexy (still classy, of course). Memorable. We signed up for classes with Arthur Murray. Over six classes we learned the same dance move over and over and over and over. Finally, on the second to last day they show us what we could learn if we take more classes and what we'll be stuck with if we don't. I left crying. We had said time and again that we wanted something coreographed and if we had started that from the beginning, we wouldn't have had to do extra classes. My brother went to a different studio and had a far more impressive dance after just 3 lessons. I voiced my concerns to our teacher and she did write us a dance then but seemed bitter about my feelings. I knew it wasn't her fault necessarily. The manager of the store, Lola, is fightening and she oversees every client relationship there, constantly trying to bully you into taking more classes and throwing away money. I imagine she bullies her employees the same way, making them fall short of what the customer wants so you're forced to sign up for more classes. I liked my instructor a lot and ultimately got something I was happy with, but not until I was forced to write a scathing email.
We had Greg as our instructor for three sessions that were given to us as a gift. We were hesitant about if we even wanted to use them, but we are so glad that we did. He was so fun and we all spent each lesson laughing as he taught us. I learned much more than I thought possible in those three lessons and I miss them already.
My fiance knows I wanted to take dance classes, and even though he hates to dance, he surprised me with this gift! We bought 3 partner lessons, and 2 group lessons. This was definitely not enough time for us to dance at our wedding. It was bout $300...which I did not think was a good deal. Each partner and group lesson was only 45 minutes. I feel like the first lesson was a waste of time.
The people are very nice there though. (We went to the one near Liberyville, Illinois.) Sometimes, though, the people are too nice there...too happy! It was kind of annoying. My fiance didn't feel comfortable dancing...and did not enjoy the group lessons at all. I thought they were ok. You line up and rotate dancing partners. Sometimes you get stuck with some people you do NOT want to dance with, but you can't say no, unless you want to look totally rude!---one guy was a creeper and held me way to close to him...eew!!) I was excited about doing this, but now I know it's not my thing...and and I think I'll stick to my random dance moves I know. I think the only thing we benefitted from coming here...is that my fiance said he did end up feeling a little bit more confident with his dancing. We only used the "introduction" of what they taught us, which was the entrance walk in with a twirl and dip. lol. $300 for that. ha
We took lessons in the Schaumburg location. Our instructor was phenomenal and he taught us a routine that was exactly what we hoped for and more! We so enjoyed taking our classes, practicing at home, and mostly surprising everyone at the wedding with our Merengue routine. All of the instructors are incredibly energetic, fun, friendly, and talented. The group classes were a blast. You can go as often or as little as you want. Once a week was perfect for us. It is pricey, but it was worth every penny to us. We hope to continue our lessons in the future.
My Dad surprised me with dance lessons for our First Dance and we had such a fun time! Jessica was our instructor and she was great to work with!
We took 2 lessons at their location in the suburbs. We learned the basics then, but was harrassed to take 8 classes for a very high price. The classes were not private; therefore, we didn't think it was worth it. The way we saw it, we could have learned what we needed from the 2 classes we attended if the instructor wanted to. But, no, they string you along for a long lesson plan.
My husband and I wanted a little something special when it came to our first dance. We didn't want to bore everyone with a "high school prom dance" and we also didn't want to get a dance so complex that we either couldn't remember it or one that we were too busy counting steps to enjoy.
We went to the Arthur Murray studio and met with Greg. He is probably one of the nicest people and he definitely makes the process fun. My husband and I voiced our concerns and our ideas. He not only listened but he made a dance for us that was simple but elegant. We definitely wouldn't be boring, but we wouldn't be uncomfortable either. We got private lessons for an average price in a beautiful facility. They made the experience easy, fun, and they cater to your abilities...or in my case lack there of :) The owners are a lovely couple who also met with us to make sure we were happy with our lessons. Which we were!
We received so many compliments on how sweet and beautiful our dance turned out. Thank you Greg and everyone at Arthur Murray!
My (now) husband could not dance, and I could move a little but Robbie nt only taught us how to dance buy choreographed our fist dance to be exactly what we wanted it to be. I can not wait to see the video of that dance. The lessons are not inexpensive but they were worth every penny. In fact we signed up for another whole year of lessons.
We used the Arthur Murray studio just outside of Chicago in Merrillville and had the very best time! We learned so much, laughed at ourselves and were able to make a show of our first dance. It was so cool to go from having 2 left feet to our family cheering, clapping, oohing and ahhing as we danced. We will be going back to finish the rest of our lessons even though our wedding is over.
This was the best place to get dance lessons. We were not dancers and Jessica was so patient and amazing. Our dance was PERFECT!!
Arthur Murray studio in Chicago, IL helped us created a wonderful first dance. Note to engaged couples, START EARLY! Do not expect to learn a dance and perfect it in a matter of weeks...you will need months! Private lessons are a little pricey, but we had a blast and thought it was worth it. You only get to do your first dance once...why not go all out?!
Although the price was a bit much for the number of classes we received, taking the dance classes was so fun and our instructor created a personalized dance for us, or crowd loved it!
My fiance and I received a coupon in the mail for 2 dance lessons at a reduced price so we thought we would go to Arthur Murray to brush up on our dancing. The lessons we just okay and on top of that more than half of our first lesson was spent listening to the staff try to sell us expensive lesson packages. If you really need to have some lessons before your wedding this might not be a good use of your time.
we worked with melissa... she was fabulous!!
Thank you Drew! We nailed our first dance and had the skills to dance to a variety of music at our wedding. The fees are expensive here, but it gave us time as a couple to gain a life skill. Standing ovation for our dance! Totally worth it!
My fiance and I had never danced and waited until about 2 months before our wedding to start lessons. Our instructor at Arthur Murray, Glenview, was very understanding. She helped us learn a realistic step and short routine that allowed us to surprise our friends and family at the wedding. We were also able to sneak in some other basics steps which came in handy during our reception.
We had a great dance instructor, Jessica. She was so kind and patient with the both of us. She was very accomidating to our dance style, or lack there of.
My husband and I waited until the last minute and then wanted to take 3-4 classes in the two weeks before our wedding. Edgar, our teacher, was really great! Not only is he a good dancer, he's also funny and entertaining. My only complaint is that they try to lure you into buying a pricey "wedding package" deal, even if all you want is a few private lessons. Annoying? Yes. Deal-breaking? No.
We worked with Phil at Arthur Murray. He was professional and really visualized what we had in mind for our first dance. He also provided insight as far as dancing with other people at the wedding. He showed us various dance styles and techniques.
The staff was curtious and professional. A bit pricey.
From the moment you walk in, it feels like you've stepped into a time-share presentation. We had three lessons that were each supposed to be 45 minutes. Not one of them lasted more than 25 minutes, and the last 20 minutes were used to sit us at a table and explain to us how we should buy more lessons and the packages they have available. This is after we told them we weren't interested in more lessons. It's terrible - constant hard sell, mediocre instruction, always felt like we were getting rushed out.
Not worth the money... wedding packages are too expensive. I would have rather used it somewhere else.
These people charge $124 per 50 minutes. The instructors go way too slowly for any one with a sense of rhythm or musical knowledge. You could teach a newborn giraffe to dance in 50 minutes, but they want to sell you many hours and teach very little in each hour. They also don't teach the proper technique- just instruct in the timing and placement of the steps- so its really a very ridiculous price.
The place is crowded and these lessons are WAY too expensive. You have to buy either 4 or 8, but they do let you have your money back. We went to just 2 before deciding they were too expensive so got a refund for the remaining 2. Try your local community center instead- you get 8 lessons for under $100 there without the crowds. Or call your community center and ask who the instructor they use is- you can probably get private lessons for a great value. You pay a lot for the Arthur Murray name.
Overall, their style of instruction is just not suited to my taste or my husbands. I guess you just have to find what works for you...but you shouldn't have to pay this much.
high pressure to purchase additional lessons
Everyone loved our first dance and the DJ even commented on how it was the best one he had seen in the 25 years he has been in the buisness. the only negative is that it's very expensive...
