Berry Hill Resort

The Berry Hill Resort is a gorgeous historic gem seated in the foothills of South Boston, Virginia. Having grown up half an hour from South Boston, I had always heard about Berry Hill, but never visited. While hunting for wedding venues, my now husband and I visited several sites. Berry Hill was our last visit because it was abundantly clear it was the perfect backdrop for the start of our marriage. Aside from the absolutely stunning grounds, architecture, and timeless classic aesthetic of the period in which it was first built, the staff at Berry Hill are phenomenal. They truly care about making your experience everything you’ve hoped for, plus some! Everyone we came in contact with at Berry Hill was so friendly and attentive, and made sure no stone went unturned. Speaking personally, I was the most relaxed bride this world has probably ever seen, because I was confident that the staff of Berry Hill were going to execute everything perfectly. The entire day went off without a hitch, and it genuinely was that best day of our lives. Berry Hill is the perfect all-inclusive venue. The planning stage was seamless, with the help of an on-site wedding coordinator. We came in for a dinner tasting in advance - the salmon is to die for! We had a rehearsal dinner at Berry Hill the night before, which was also very good, and all of our wedding party spent the night at the resort the night before as well. The attached hotel makes for the utmost convenience for guests, and made us feel relieved knowing they could dance and drink all night and get to their beds safely. Most of our guests stayed the night after the wedding. The morning of the wedding, breakfast was delivered to my bridesmaids and I in one of the suites where we were getting ready. We had an assortment of fruits and breakfast pastries, coffee, champagne, and orange juice! The groomsmen got ready together in a mansionette separate from the main mansion building so my husband and I wouldn’t risk seeing each other! Our small and intimate ceremony was in the Orangerie, and was short and sweet. We then had a cocktail hour in the mansion library while we and the wedding party went outside on the grounds for photos! The reception was in the grand ballroom, and we had a blast with the live band! Having Darby’s Tavern located right across a green area from the ballroom was also perfect, as some of our guests went over there to keep the party going after the reception winded down. The next morning, my husband and I enjoyed an amazing brunch at the Mansion Restaurant before leaving. When we look back on our wedding day, there is no doubt that we chose the perfect venue for us. I highly recommend Berry Hill Resort!!!

I recently went back the The Berry Hill Resort after being married there and it was just as special as the day we got married! The memories came flooding back for both my husband and I and we enjoyed seeing some of the same staff who helped us on our wedding day! They went above and beyond to ensure we had a great visit back and we enjoyed every second!

Great venue.

We absolutely loved our wedding weekend at Berry Hill Resort! When we first booked, there was a change of staff. Phillip made that transition seamless and worked with us every step of the way. He answered all of our questions, made sure everything was in line, and did even more phenomenally on the day of. Phillip and his staff ensured that every one of our needs were met and concerns were handled. We barely had to lift a finger, which made wedding planning and the day of that much easier! His staff did just as exceptionally- they were all so nice and pleasant. Berry Hill is also a hotel with several restaurants and a bar, which allows guests to fully enjoy your wedding for its entirety. If you're looking for an all-in-one, gorgeous, classic, vintage/historic vibe for your wedding, Berry Hill is your venue.

Phillip was available and took every phone call the days leading up to my wedding and the weekend we were there. He helped us plan a Friday night dinner, wedding ceremony, cocktail hour, reception and Sunday Brunch. The food was delicious and the specialty alcohol was as requested. Phillip made my wedding day all the more special as he felt like a true friend there to help me. My family from New Jersey and my husband’s family from Virginia and other states all said the property was gorgeous and perfect for a wedding weekend.

Berry Hill, Phillip, and the entire wedding department is nothing short of incredible. I got married 9/23/23 at Berry Hill and it poured that entire day and to most that would be a tragedy because we had plans to be married on the beautiful front lawn but, not for us. Phillip sprung into action and created a beautiful ceremony inside. We have received countless compliments about the venue and the fun space they create rain or shine. I am forever indebted to this venue and the people inside. Additional pros for this venue include: 1. Beautiful rooms for bride and groom to get ready in. 2. Delicious food. 3. Incredible wait stuff for your wedding and at all restaurants. 4. A spa and a pool. 5. A hotel on site with the friendliest front desk staff.

We had booked Berry Hill about a year and a half in advance for our April 2023 wedding due to living abroad & only being able to plan our wedding sporadically when I'd be on a visit home. We had a big spanner thrown in the works when our wedding coordinator reached out to us in January 2023 saying that he was leaving & would be replaced by Phillip Gardner. Any feelings of uncertainty vanished within days. Phillip. Is. Incredible. From pre- wedding communication to actually executing our day, we had an amazing experience. Phillip guided his team flawlessly, & he went out of his way to ensure we were taken care of from start to finish. Having a hotel onsite with amenities such as an indoor pool & some fabulous grounds to walk around was the icing on the cake. If you're looking for an escape- esque wedding...Berry Hill is your place. We can't fault Phillip's professionalism in helping us create a day that was truly magical.

I got married at the Berry Hill Resort and Conference Center Saturday, October 15, 2022. I cannot say enough how amazing this venue was. It is absolutely beautiful and feels so welcoming when you are there! When I got there Friday, they already had everything that I needed set up the way that I wanted it! There is also a hotel attached to the venue that I was able to block off rooms for all of my guests! That way all my guests had to do was call and reserve a room under my name! They also had all of the food there, so I would not have to get it myself! They told me that if it rained, the staff there would move all of the chairs that were outside, and they would move it inside! I also want to say how absolutely amazing my wedding coordinator was! Her name is Leigh-Ann Sheilds. She made sure that everything was right, everything was perfect, and most of all she made sure that I was not stressed my wedding day! She helped me with everything that I needed and more! We were able to contact her and talk to her whenever we needed her for advice on decorations, how to plan something, or anything in general. She always had an answer for us and always made sure it was perfect! My wedding day was perfect and went perfect as well thanks to my amazing venue and my amazing wedding coordinator. I could go on and on for hours about how amazing this venue and my wedding coordinator are! I would highly recommend Berry Hill Resort and Conference Center as a Venue and Leigh-Ann Shields as a Wedding Coordinator to absolutely anyone that asked! I have nothing but praises. If you are looking for a venue, please go and look at Berry Hill Resort and Conference Center, you will absolutely love it!

My daughter and son-in-law were married at Berry Hill yesterday. The wedding, hospitality hour, reception, everything was flawless and flowed seamlessly. I attribute that to the fantastic staff at Berry Hill. Our wedding coordinator was Leigh Ann Shields. She helped us plan the wedding, reception, everything. What I love about Berry Hill is I didn’t have to think about anything during the day except my daughter, her now husband and having a great day with everyone. I cannot say enough positives about Berry Hill!!

We absolutely loved our wedding at Berry Hill Resort. From hiring them to the days leading up to the wedding day, to the actual wedding day itself we could not be more happy with this venue and their team. Our coordinator, Stephanie, is the sweetest woman! No need to hire a day of coordinator because Stephanie is absolutely amazing. She was always so quick to respond to texts if i needed questions answered and helped the wedding day run so smoothly and stress free. We had our ceremony in the front circle, cocktail hour in the courtyard, dinner in the grand ballroom and dancing under a beautiful tent in the courtyard. After our reception finished, our guests were able to keep the party going at their onsite tavern which is such an added bonus, You also can not beat having a hotel on site for your guests. They were able to walk to their room after a night of fun. Can not recommend this venue enough!

My son was married here and it was absolutely perfect. From the rehearsal dinner to the wedding and reception , it was perfect! The ballroom , mansion, and grounds are beautiful! There is also a motel on site with beautiful, spacious rooms. An added bonus is Darby’s Tavern that allows for the party to continue ! Berryhill’s coordinator, Stephanie was so easy to work with. she orchestrated all events and everything was excellent from the food, drinks , set up and the progression of the events of the evening. All the guests raved about the whole extra!

Berry Hill was the perfect venue for our wedding. From the time we started planning until the end of the wedding night, Seray and the rest of the event staff were attending to our every need. We had many out of town guests who stayed at the hotel and all had wonderful things to say about the facilities and staff. We couldn’t have asked for a better wedding day, and would highly recommend this venue to any engaged couple!

My son and daughter in law were married two weeks ago at Berry Hill Resort and it was absolutely wonderful! Both the Rehearsal Dinner and the Wedding and the Reception were just exquisite and awesome! The location, the facilities, the staff, the food, the grounds, the mansion, the banquet hall, the rooms and all were just perfect! The wedding was just about as close to perfect as could possibly be! Seray and the whole staff from the registration desk to the restaurant, to the waitstaff and banquet servers to the housekeeping staff and the Darby's tavern bartenders and staff were just simply amazing! They were all so friendly, helpful, kind, accommodating and professional. They treated everybody like they were the most special guest ever! Thank you to all for facilitating a wonderful wedding and to making us feel so special and so happy with our treatment! I most highly and whole heartedly recommend Berry Hill Resort for those wanting the perfect storybook wedding venue!!!

We chose Berry Hill because it was a cozy venue but had enough space for all our guests to stay in the hotel. We really had the place all to ourselves and it was perfect! The staff and wedding coordinators were so accommodating and flexible and they helped with any issue. The resort recently came under new management and most of the management staff is new. The change was for the better! I would recommend this venue and staff to anyone. Even with rain our wedding was gorgeous, romantic and fun!

The Berry Hill events staff were so helpful and accommodating while planning our elopement. On the big day they were attentive to every little detail. Thank you Kara, Ky, and Seray! We had a wonderful and unique stay in the mansion and one of the mini mansions. Delicious food at Darby’s Tavern and refreshing drinks at the Parlour Bar too. If you are looking for a place to hold a special event or just looking for a weekend getaway, we highly recommend The Berry Hill Resort and Conference Center!

My husband and I got married at Berry Hill May 18, 2019 with about 200 guests. I almost feel like this review won’t even do the venue and staff there justice because they were INCREDIBLE! From the second we started working with the wedding team there we were so impressed. Throughout the planning process they were always there when I needed them and made sure any detail I wanted included in the wedding or reception could be done, even if it seemed completely out of reach. We worked closely with Ky and Kara and can’t say enough positives about the two of them. They did not make it feel like it was a business at all, more like friends planning a wedding together. My husband wasn’t able attend meetings because he serves in the Marines, and they were so patient with us to be sure he could also be involved from a distance. The one thing that stood out was that every staff member on site at Berry Hill the day of our wedding knew everything there was to know about our wedding and what we wanted. They made it feel like they were working for us that day, not Berry Hill. They were completely at our service and went above and beyond to make sure our needs were met and more. Our wedding day was so hot, but the staff there did everything they possibly could to keep us and the guests cool throughought the ceremony and reception. We changed things about the ceremony on the spot and it went seamlessly because of how hard they worked. All of our guests were blown away by the beauty of Berry Hill as our wedding venue and still talk about it every time we see them. Every detail of the interior and exterior has Virginia’s southern charm and is so elegant. The venue was perfect for us because my husband’s family came from out of town, so everyone spent the entire weekend together. My family also stayed there, even though we are only 30 minutes away because once you are there you don’t have to leave! I don’t think there were any amenities that our wedding party didn’t use. We ate at Darby’s Tavern repeatedly because it is delicious, used the pool, basketball court, tennis courts, pool table, and enjoyed each other’s company outside in the courtyard after the wedding for hours! Also, my dog got to come to the wedding, and because he is a Great Dane, most places would have turned him away. Out of all the venues we considered, Berry Hill was the one that stood out to us the most. With other venues we found that when you booked, most of the time it was an empty space and you had to rent tables, chairs, linens, etc., but it is all included. Not only that, but you have a complete team working for you, which is priceless. We could not have had a better experience at Berry Hill and would highly recommend it to anyone planning a wedding, large or small.

This was a beautiful venue and the prices were reasonable compared to other venues. The service staff at Berry Hill went out of their way to make sure we and our guests had what we needed and assisted any way they could to ensure our wedding and reception were great. Arrangements with the cost of rooms for our guests and use of the property changed when a large party came to the resort, even though we made our deposit several months earlier. When we arrived for our wedding weekend, we were told the restaurant and bar would be closed to us the day of our arrival due to a large group reservation at the resort, which we were not informed off prior. If you have guests stay at the resort, keep an eye out on travel websites for price reductions, we found a price reduction of approximately $40, even though Berry Hill staff assured us we were getting the lowest price possible. I asked for a tasting of our plated meal, we were invited to the resort for a tasting, but it was a buffet. We expressed our desire to have the plated tasting and after consulting with the chef, he did give us a plated sample, which we had to pay for. When we discussed these issues with Berry Hill's event planner, she explained that it was our problem, we were wrong to have an issue with the resort for these problems and was actually very unpleasant. Given some issues, the wedding went off very well. We would recommend you get every detail of your wedding and reception documented and signed by you and the resort.

This is an absolutely gorgeous location, an antebellum mansion with picturesque views. This is what sold me on the venue. The food was also great, wouldn't have changed anything in that department. I do feel like this venue is extremely overpriced for the quality of service received. We stayed in a "complimentary" suite for the night of the honeymoon with absolutely no air conditioning. It was so uncomfortable and after speaking to maintenance, they said that management had well been well aware of this problem. We received an old box fan with mold on it to help cool our room. I contacted the staff regarding this, and never heard anything back. The venue has a wedding coordinator on site, who helps coordinate things. I felt like she was rude, and deliberately overcharged as much as possible. I was told by the workers at the front desk in the hotel that she increased the hotel room rate substantially when there was a wedding that weekend. We were told we were getting a 20% discount by having wedding guests stay there. We were charged $180 a night for a regular hotel room, and it was being advertised online for $90/night. Overall, disappointed I chose to have a wedding here.

Great experience. Rhonda was so fabulous to work with and did such a great job of helping us make sure that all the events ran smoothly for the weekend. She even stepped in as bartender to make sure the party went on! The food was amazing and they were so great with all the changes and special requests we had. Loved having our wedding here and being able to spend the weekend with our family on such a beautiful property

I fell in love with Berry Hill before we ever visited. After we met with Rhonda and toured the property, I knew there was no turning back. Rhonda was so easy to work with- always quick to respond to my emails, thoroughly answering all of my questions each time. No detail was overlooked on our wedding day thanks to Rhonda! Our guests are still talking about the delicious food and the beauty of the property- even in February. Most ceremonies at Berry Hill are outdoors, but Rhonda and her team did an exceptional job flipping the banquet room during our cocktail hour from ceremony to reception venue. Exceeded all expectations! :)

Berry Hill Resort was the perfect setting for our wedding. Everything was beautiful and it made for gorgeous pictures. The onsite wedding coordinator, Rhonda, and her staff went out of their way to make everything perfect for us and our guests. In large part Rhonda read our minds and anticipated our needs before we could.

Guests loved the rooms

While the over all reception was spectacular there were many details that were forgotten. For example we had requested sparkling cider as well as champagne and it wasn't available. There was not as much follow through as there should have been.

This was my first pick for a venue, but I didn't think I could work it into my budget and still be able to invite everyone I wanted to. Well, after over at least a month of searching, I talked to Rhonda (the wedding coordinator at Berry Hill) and she worked out a budget that settled right into my budget, and we were able to serve everyone a plated dinner consisting of a sirloin steak, idaho and sweet potatoes, grilled asparagus, a delicious salad as a starter with rolls at every table! It was perfect! I believe in the final cost I went over budget by about $64, but I count that an accomplishment considering all the people I had growing the guest list for me! We hit a little snag in the planning when Rhonda called and told me she had accidentally scheduled a rehearsal for the same time in the same place as my wedding, but she worked it out and gave me an extra perk by allowing anyone to be present for our hour of hor dourves. Over all I was very satisfied with the location and the service, and I am glad I didn't settle elsewhere in all of my searching for the perfect venue!

We loved Berry Hill! It is beautiful and there staff is very accommodating. It is a little on the expensive side but I believe it was worth it. The food was EXCELLENT!!! And so much of it that no one went home hungry, they actually gave me some to take up to our room. They had a chief there that made the food, no buffet lines which I HATE!!! Of course you could have a buffet but it was so nice having a chef there. Overall it was a great experience and the hotel was very accommodating and very close so no one had to rent a car (almost all our guests were from out of state).
