Camp Wandawega is the perfect place to have a Wisconsin wedding weekend! I spent summers growing up at my family's cottage down the road from Wandawega, and it has long been one of my favorite places in the world. On Sunday mornings, we used to go to the Catholic masses at Wandawega - or "Vandavega" as the Latvian priests who used to run the place always called it. It was the only place I knew of where a kid could go to mass while looking out over a lake, sitting under a tree canopy - and sometimes even get a pancake breakfast afterward.
I wasn't sure if Camp Wandawega (aka Wandawega Lake Resort) was still around. But after my husband proposed at our cottage last year, we both immediately thought of Wandawega. When I stopped to see if the old campsite was still around, I couldn't believe what a beautiful job the new owners (David and Tereasa) did restoring Wandawega! It is so incredibly beautiful, and so lovingly fixed up to its original glory. We ran into some obstacles having our official Catholic wedding mass here, so instead we had that at the church where my parents got married in Milwaukee. At Wandawega, we had about 50 friends spend the weekend for a magical wedding weekend celebration -- complete with an amazing outdoor ceremony at the enchanted, dream-like "green Cathedral," had a beautiful dinner under a huge tent over the tennis court, lit sparklers, had a bonfire, did late-night rope swinging over the lake, and enjoyed a pancake breakfast after "mass in the grass" on Sunday. The wedding weekend was amazing, the weather was perfect, and everyone completely fell in love with Wandawega! I can't say enough about what an amazing weekend we had, and what a phenomenal place it is.
After all these years, Wandawega is still one of the most magical places I've ever been.
