The Chalfonte was the perfect venue for our wedding. The cocktail hour on the porch was a guest favorite, and the reception space is amazing. The staff was absolutely wonderful, and I will shout out Ellie as also being amazing to work with. She answered every question that I had both quickly and thoroughly, and it really eased my stress level going into the big day. The food was wonderful (EVERYONE was talking about it the next day), and the drinks were also top notch. I can't recommend the Chalfonte enough!
I can’t say enough about how wonderful Ellie and the rest of her team was at The Chalfonte. They worked with us to make the day incredibly memorable and special. The food was delicious and the hospitality was second to none. I wish I could give them 10 stars.
We had the perfect June wedding at The Chalfonte. The location and charm of the venue cannot be beat; it has a timeless Cape May elegance but it’s also relaxed. You have to see it in person. Ellie was amazing to work with from the beginning. She answered all of our questions with patience and helped us make decisions that would be best for us; she never pushed anything. We had about 140 people (this ended up being the perfect size for the venue), and the majority of them stayed at the hotel for the weekend. Guests loved the welcome drinks on the porch on Friday night and made use of the beach tags offered by the Chalfonte on Saturday morning. The fact that this place was affordable for both us and our guests staying there was a big reason we chose it. We had our ceremony off site but the reception in the Magnolia Room was beautiful. The food was delicious (get the fried chicken!), the bars were well-stocked, and the staff was super fun. All of our guests had the best time. Ellie and her team made the day perfect, from setting up the pictures and signs we wanted to small touches like having our favorite drinks on the sweetheart table when we walked in. I also loved getting ready in the beautiful bridal suite. Thanks to The Chalfonte for making our summer wedding down the shore a dream come true!
What a perfect day! I would recommend the Chalfonte Hotel to anyone looking to get married in Cape May in a historic charming hotel. Our on-site wedding coordinator helped with everything from day one of planning to coordinating the day of the wedding. The staff is amazing and the hotel is so beautiful warm and inviting. I was able to get married in the garden under the willow tree, and then had my cocktail hour on the wraparound porch and indoors at the king Edwards bar, and then had our reception in the magnolia room. The hotel is great if you’re looking for a beach wedding as well it’s just a short distance from the beach. Instead, I did a sand unity and brought the sand to the hotel And brought small touches of beach decor. The best part was that everything was all at one venue, including getting ready, rooms, and room accommodations for your guests. My elegant small dream wedding came true at the Chalfonte Hotel.
The Chalfonte Hotel has got to be the best venues for a wedding anywhere. Ellie and staff are the best. We rented 37 rooms for 2 nights and had 132 guest in and out for the entire weekend. It was Perfect! Decor is everything and The Chalfonte delivered! If they had 6 stars I would give it. The Conrad’s.
Ellie and the Chalfonte team were amazing! Our June Cape May wedding was a dream come true. Ellie was so attentive to every detail and the staff took such wonderful care of our guest the weekend of the wedding!
My nephew and his fiancé had their wedding at the Chalfonte this past October. It was beautiful. The hotel was charming, comfortable and accommodating. And the location could not have been better.
My nephew and his wife had their wedding and reception at the Chalfonte in October, and it was truly a wonderful experience from start to finish. The hotel was both charming and well-run, with helpful staff in the reception area as we checked in and throughout the weekend. The wraparound porch was a lovely place to relax with family members the afternoon before the wedding, as well as being an elegant setting for a welcome reception the night before the wedding and for the cocktail hour preceding the reception. The wedding ceremony took place in a garden space on the hotel grounds and allowed for plenty of seating and good views of the ceremony itself. The good weather was appreciated as well, although not something that could be guaranteed by the Chalfonte staff, I imagine! The food and service at the reception were both excellent. The location of the hotel is also a bonus. We were easily able to walk to both the beach and the commercial area. All in all, we felt very lucky to be invited to a wedding at the Chalfonte and hope to return later this year!
My son & his fiancé chose the Chalfonte for their wedding and it was perfect! The hotel is beautiful and packed with vintage charm - they couldn’t have picked a better place for a wedding that was both elegant and relaxed. The food was terrific and the staff went out of its way to help with anything we needed from the initial booking to the final checkout. The wedding planner (Terry) was invaluable - incredibly knowledgeable, and responsive to all our questions and requests. She knows the hotel and Cape May inside out, and for every question we asked, she had information and suggestions based on experience. We also loved that the Chalfonte was a one-stop wedding venue - in addition to the ceremony and reception, there was a welcome party on Friday night and a post-wedding breakfast on Sunday. Many of the guests stayed onsite, so it was like one long celebration. The hotel bar was perfect for late night drinks, and the front porch was equally perfect for morning coffee. The location (close to both the beach & town) is great, so the guests had no problem getting around and finding lots to do. I can’t say enough good things about the Chalfonte and its staff - it was an amazing wedding weekend and I highly recommend it!!
My brother and his now wife held their wedding at the Chalfonte this year, which included “welcome drinks” on Friday, the ceremony and reception on Saturday, and a breakfast on Sunday. From start to finish, Terry and her team did an outstanding job — we heard from multiple guests that it was one of the best weddings they’d ever been to. The outdoor space was perfect for the ceremony, the food was delicious, and the prime location in Cape May is hard to beat. Thank you, Terry and team!
What an amazing venue to have for our wedding! Thank you, Terry and staff, for making our day so special! The Chalfonte is an excellent location for out-of-town guests to experience historic Cape May. The staff were excellent and accommodating for our reception and guests. The food was delicious - highly recommend the crab cakes! Many local vendors know the Chalfonte well, so it was easy to have a florist, baker, and DJ work with the Chalfonte Team to make for a special day!
Our wedding at the Chalfonte Hotel was an absolute dream!!! My husband and I have been going to Cape May for the past 10 years together so to get married there was a dream come true! Terry was a huge help and so was the staff!! Everyone was so kind and you can feel the love they have for hosting a wedding! The Bridal Suit was also amazing and beautiful! So happy I chose to get ready there! If I could go back to my wedding day I definitely would and wouldn't change a thing!!! Thank you, Chalfonte, for the best day and wedding ever!!
We have been coming to the Chalfont for years. The staff is so friendly and the rooms are always clean. It's so aesthetically beautiful that we decided to elope there this spring! Everything was more perfect then we could have imagined! It's located with a walking distance to downtown shopping, great resturants, and the beach. We highly recommend it!
Outstanding experience with the Chalfonte!
We got engaged the day before COVID shut the world down so planning was difficult in the beginning. We booked the Chalfonte with Terry in July2020 for a September 2021 wedding. We did have to change the date and even with all the craziness Terry did everything she could to make the change work and work smoothly. She responded to millions of emails over the 22 months between booking and our wedding and was always helpful, honest, and worked in a timely manner. She thought of everything. She got my vision and helped to make it happen.
Because this was a destination wedding for us we had to plan around us being in town. Terry ALWAYS worked around our schedules. We did have some issues with guests booking rooms because the hotel is closed for winter months but anytime I reached out to Terry with an issues, she worked with us to get it worked out.
Our guests spent 2-3 nights at the hotel as we had events planned throughout the weekend.
The venue and hotel are stunning but being 150 years old it def wasn’t everyone’s taste. It worked for us and our guests.
The food was OUTRAGEOUS and people are still talking about it. I highly recommend the grand slam breakfast the next morning as well. It was a fabulous breakfast for a an even better price and it was a great way to say goodbye to our guests.
Highly recommend Terry and the Chalfonte.
All our expectations were met or exceeded. From the start, coordinating with Terry was easy; she was patient with all of my questions and laying out our options, and she/ the hotel were very accommodating for special and unique requests we had. (We had to postpone our reception for a year thanks to Covid restrictions, but the process was smooth and no details were missed). ... When our big day finally came, everything was beautiful. The staff were great and all our guests had a fantastic time (and everyone still raves about the food!). As a bonus, our bridal suite was amazing! We stayed at multiple, more ‘modern’ hotels on our trip and none of them compared; I was pleasantly surprised.
ALL around, perfect venue!
Our wedding day will forever be one of our favorite memories! My wife and I met in Cape May and knew we wanted to be married in this charming town that means so much to us.
The Chalfonte Hotel was the perfect spot for us- we loved hosting our cocktail hour on the oversized classic southern porch, the food from the passed hor d'oeuvres to the plated dinner was delicious, the bartenders made awesome cocktails, and Terry our wedding coordinator was extremely helpful and quick to answer any questions we had. Our wedding guests loved staying at the hotel which is located only a few blocks from the beach and all the downtown spots!
Our wedding at the Chalfonte was absolutely amazing. We have had so many compliments. Terry was very helpful and responsive during the entire planning process. The package we chose included a suite for one night. The staff made it possible for us to get into that suite a little early for getting ready photos. The price was awesome! I cannot sing their praises enough. Everyone loved the food. The cocktail hour space was large and our guests loved hanging out on the porch before dinner. I couldn’t have imagined a more perfect day!
Where do I start, first of all, The Chalfonte Hotel employs the best events planner anywhere, Terry is unbelievable. She made our weekend wedding an event that our friends and family keep telling us, "The best wedding ever" She worked flawlessly with our wedding planner at making our weekend wedding a dream come true.
We decided to book the entire Chalfonte for all of our wedding guests to stay, the rehearsal dinner Friday night, beach wedding on Saturday and Sunday brunch. What a weekend. A band played Friday night and it was an excellent crowd that did not interfere with our 115 guests. The appetizer, the food service, wedding dinner and Sunday brunch were all amazing. Our young adults got to hang out and party with the staff at the Dormer house next block over. I loved that. Terry even brought in the rain for about 20 minutes to cool everything down before our ceremony. She is a true professional that knows what couples need and expect for their special day. Our Family and friends had a blast dancing in the dining hall. My only regret is that, we'll never have another weekend like we had at the Chalfonte 6.25.21-6.27.21. Thank you Terry and staff for all you did for us.
This hotel was absolutely perfect for us to celebrate our marriage! The hotel is beautiful and we felt it really gave our guests the feel of historic cape May. We had such a great time and Terry and the staff were so helpful and made the entire evening flawless, no issues what so ever. We are so happy we chose the hotel and would highly recommend to anyone. Thanks Terry!!
Where do we begin? Everything was fabulous. Terry is a professional in every sense of the word. All of the Chalfonte staff treated us like family and were so nice and accommodating. The staffing shortage was apparent almost everywhere else in Cape May during the weekend except at the Chalfonte. The guest rooms were clean and comfortable. The food was all delicious and carefully prepared and served (which we took a gamble on since we are big foodies and had never dined at Magnolia Room and saw some mixed online reviews). It was some of best wedding food we have ever had. We went heavy on the premium passed apps (scallops and crab cakes were a hit, and also did the mashed potato bar and antipasto). We definitely recommend the buffet, after going fancy with the passed apps, we got the fried chicken and ribs for dinner which were so good.
The pricing and packages were so transparent and upfront we really appreciated not feeling the least bit like we were being nickeled and dimed. They were also did a good job with covid - not over the top but the staff wore masks which made the guest feel comfortable.
We rented the bridal suite and suite across hall which were perfect for getting ready gatherings in the morning. It felt like we were the only wedding even though there was one on Friday.
The drinks were great- awesome they would make anything like martinis and classic cocktails (a lot of venues don’t) and no one had to wait.
The Chalfonte is definitely not for everyone, but if you are like us and falling in love with it’s unique historic charm and want an enchanting and photogenic venue then don’t wait to book it for your wedding and leave the rest to Terry and the wonderful staff.
P.s. we switched to Congress Hall for our mini moon and just wished we were back at the Chalfonte …we can’t wait to come back to visit our second home!
We originally planned to host our rehearsal dinner, post-wedding brunch, and have our guests stay at the Chalfonte for our wedding. We have moved dates three times now, and Terry and her team have been so accommodating! Terry is very responsive, and has been such a great help throughout this whole process! We would highly recommend working with the Chalfonte team!
If you want a venue that is unique, historic, set in a charming Cape May neighborhood, yet blocks from the beach, has exquisite food, and friendly service, then The Chalfonte is the venue for you! We were supposed to have gotten married in June, but of course had to postpone it due to the pandemic. We were and are so thankful that Terry and The Chalfonte Hotel allowed us to get married in September. Terry was wonderful navigating the changes with my now husband and I. We were able to have everything outside and it was beautiful!! Thank you to all at The Chalfonte who helped Kyle and I have a magical day. Our guests enjoyed their time, not to mention loved all of the food! Even though the two years of planning and wedding is over, we look forward to spending as many anniversaries as we can on The Chalftonte porch for a nice meal and drinks. 😊❤
I have only great things to say about the Chalfonte! As a covid-19 bride, I’ve had to reschedule my wedding TWICE at this venue and Terry has been nothing but helpful and understanding during such a stressful time! We have always loved staying here when visiting Cape May and we can’t wait to finally say “I do” there this June - if you need a reliable, stunning venue that is well staffed with kind and competent individuals, look no further! My partner and I can’t recommend it highly enough.
Take our advice: GET MARRIED AT THE CHALFONTE! We haven't been able to figure out how to fully express how wonderful this venue was (and how invaluable Terry was as our kind and expert leader, plus her amazing team of chefs, servers, and bartenders), but we're going to try! On the Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend, 2019, we had a beautiful late-morning ceremony under the tree in the Chalfonte's back garden, followed by cocktail hour at the hotel's cool King Edward Bar (with refreshing drinks, delicious apps, and plenty of room for guests to lounge in the rockers on the wide, covered porch), and a really fun and festive buffet luncheon in the newly painted Magnolia room. (Sidenote: it was AWESOME not to have to worry about transportation for our guests! And we didn't lose precious time asking people to drive and park between events-- it was all right there, on hotel property!) We then gave everyone time for a late-afternoon nap before meeting up for putt-putt a few blocks away from the Chalfonte and returning to the King Edward Bar for a truly lovely after-party. Terry and her team made everything stress-free: in the days before our wedding, we were able to drop off decorations, flowers, desserts, and other personalized party items at the hotel so that, on the morning of the wedding, Terry's team set up everything, which allowed us and our guests to just relax and enjoy the day. The Chalfonte's Southern / beachside / Victorian charm and whimsical furnishings suited our style completely and made all of our guests feel like we were hanging out in a welcoming and warm home-- it was absolutely perfect! My blood pressure automatically drops when I can enjoy the breeze on the Chalfonte's porch and listen to the clip-clop of horse-drawn carriages go by. PLUS, the Chalfonte provides sooooo much bang for your buck. The value is just incredible. And Terry is, functionally, not only the Chalfonte's wedding director, but she was also basically our wedding planner-- her knowledge of and connection to local vendors really helped us as we coordinated rentals and other vendors for the wedding ceremony. She patiently met with us 1:1 several times over the months leading up to the ceremony, giving us walk-throughs, tastings, and providing consistently prompt and professional responsiveness to our emailed questions, too. Many of our guests told us it was one of the most intimate, relaxing, and personal weddings they had ever attended, and MOST of the credit for that goes to the Chalfonte! Take our advice: book your wedding there! We wouldn't change a thing. :) Thanks, Terry and team! Looking forward to a return trip!!!
After reading such great reviews and having dined at the Chalfonte many times over the years I expected a perfect wedding and reception. Cape May has been my vacation destination for 25 years and this is my second marriage. My children and my now husband thought Cape May was the perfect place for us to have our small wedding. The Chalfonte was beautiful and we were lucky enough to have a perfect fall day . Our ceremony was outside. The bartenders and waitstaff were beyond wonderful. The food was good. The ambiance was fabulous. But every single guest I’ve spoken to felt that there was no direction for the guests and most felt lost as to where the ceremony was and where to go for cocktail hour. Some wandered for quite a while before eventually finding their way . The DJ was given no direction and I found him lost and confused on the front porch, where he wasn’t even told where to set up for the cocktail hour ( which was both inside and out on the porch) . He was fabulous, however. When it came time for cocktail hour to end, there was another moment of mass confusion. I expected more when it came to staff being there to help our guests find their way and ease everyone into smooth transition. My friend and sister in law had to go over save the day with some special touches we had for the wedding. I truly felt we were a bother at times. Terry was very helpful with much of the planning and helped out a lot during the course of the year plus leading up to the wedding. I just felt the ball was dropped on the day. And so did most of my guests.
Peace Pie and Pretty Tasty Cupcakes were outstanding for our dessert. Kate’s flower shop put together the bouquet and centerpieces of my dreams. DLG entertainment was perfect for our music. Our day was wonderful. I just wish our guests had been a little less lost.
In June our son and daughter-in -law had their wedding reception at the Chalfonte Hotel. The entire weekend was perfect. Terry and her staff were helpful in setting up tables for our welcome bags for the guests and were willing to move furniture in the lobby to accommodate our wishes. The old southern style wrap around porch allowed guests to enjoy sipping wine while in a rocking chair and enjoying the beautiful gardens. The Magnolia room was beautifully decorated for the reception and the service was well organized and staff made sure the meals were perfectly presented. The breakfast buffet the next morning was exceptional with variety of breakfast foods, fresh fruits and fresh juices. It was a perfect ending to the wedding weekend and a perfect way to thank our guests.
Terry and her staff were so helpful it made the weekend stress free knowing they were there to insure things ran smoothly. I would highly recommend the Chalfonte Hotel for a wedding venue. Our guests are still commenting on the historic ambiance of the Chalfonte and the Cape May experience
I was married on September 28th at the Chalfonte Hotel and had the most wonderful experience from start to finish. The hotel is a meaningful spot to me because I spent summers visiting with my family as a kid. I wanted to get married at the Chalfonte for as long as I can remember because I've always thought it was absolutely beautiful and has such a romantic feel. The wedding coordinator, Terry, was so accommodating and helpful throughout the whole experience. She was always kindly able to help us with any concerns and accommodate our requests. The staff is fantastic - SO friendly. They made sure our guests were served at all times and really went above and beyond serving my husband and I. They made sure to make special appetizer plates for us because they knew we'd be socializing and hungry, they made our plates for us at the buffet and made sure we always had a full drink!
The Chalfonte itself is seriously so beautiful. The detail and decor make it feel so special. Its beachy and airy, but vintage and romantic all at once. Our photos turned out so beautiful. The wrap-around porch is wonderful for the cocktail hour because you can move easily from inside to outside and there are rocking chairs for guests to hang out. The Magnolia Room, where the reception is held, was the perfect size for our 130-ish person wedding. It wasn't as nearly large as typical ballroom venue but it kept everyone together, socializing and dancing, which I loved. I cannot say enough wonderful things about the Chalfonte! My husband also love that we can stay at the Chalfonte for our future anniversary weekends.
Gorgeous Victorian seaside setting for a magical wedding! We celebrated my sister's big day at the Chalfonte and couldn't have imagined it anywhere else. Every detail was meticulously curated by Terry and the phenomenal Chalfonte staff. Accommodations were comfortable and lovely, coordination of the day was well organized, the cocktail hour was a delight, the reception incredible, dinner delicious and partying with the band and all of our friends and family unforgettable! The Chalfonte itself is endlessly photogenic and we are in love with the photos from that beautiful day. Thanks to the entire staff at the Chalfonte for making it so memorable.
Having our wedding reception at the Chalfonte Hotel was truly a dream! Terry is amazing-her professionalism, speedy communication, and accommodating nature put me at ease allowing us to enjoy our day. Upon checking in our guests were greeted by the warm and helpful front desk staff. The historic property itself is so charming- from the sprawling porch, adorable secret garden, and elegant Magnolia ballroom it's the quintessential setting for a Cape May wedding. The Bridal Suite- a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom suite with a ocean view porch, was the perfect spot to get in glam with my 7 bridesmaids and mom. Our cocktail hour on the porch was one of my favorite parts of the celebration- the appetizers were wonderful and served in large portions- many of our guests were raving about the bacon wrapped scallops. The rocking chairs were perfect for our guests that needed to rest their feet. The food and service during dinner in the ballroom was top notch. If you haven't dined at the Chalfonte this may sound silly, but Lucille's (who has been working her magic in the Chalfonte kitchen for over 80 years!!) dinner rolls were a huge hit! Thank you to all the staff who made it possible!
Our Chalfonte wedding was so incredible and memorable! Working with Terry was an absolute dream! She was incredibly helpful throughout the entire process. From discussing initial wedding ideas to choosing a specific date to formalizing and finalizing details up until our wedding day, Terry was informative, professional, and delightful. On the day of the wedding, the entire Chalfonte staff working our event was kind and helpful. We got numerous compliments from our family members about how the service at the Chalfonte Hotel was truly one of the best wedding experiences they ever had.
If you are looking for a charming Cape May wedding in a historic Victorian setting with excellent service, the Chalfonte Hotel is the way to go. Terry and the entire Chalfonte Hotel staff made our special day so unforgettable for our guests and, of course, for the both of us!
We were really happy we chose the Chalfonte for our May 2019 wedding. It’s a fantastic all-in-one venue, where you can have your ceremony, reception, and guest accommodations in one location.
There’s a pretty little garden area for ceremonies under a willow tree. If it rains, sometimes it can get too muddy, but we got lucky! There was a passing shower the morning of our wedding, but the grass dried in time.
The ballroom is gorgeous and elegant as is — you don’t need to go overboard on flowers, anything will look amazing in there. We did the buffet for our lunch reception, and it got rave reviews. Of course, get the fried chicken. It’s their specialty.
The Chalfonte offers an on-site coordinator named Terry, who was super responsive via email in the months and weeks leading up to the wedding. We appreciated her firm and direct communication style (too many wedding people are too bubbly for my taste). Our only complaint was that Terry doesn’t work with outside wedding planners, so I ended up playing go-between a few times.
Choosing the menu was easier than we expected. Our guests had a LOT of allergies among them, and Terry and her kitchen staff worked really hard to accommodate them well. We loved the charm of the Chalfonte and would highly recommend it to others!
Saturday, May 18, 2019 was the perfect day in Cape May, NJ. The weather cooperated and we had a lovely ceremony on the beach before the celebrations at The Chalfonte began. We could hear the steel drummer playing on the wrap-around porch as we all arrived for cocktail hour. Drinks were flowing and hors d’oeuvres were being served by a friendly, attentive staff. The transition from cocktail hour to the reception was seamless and we even had time for a fantastic photo with all of our guests. Food stations were set up in two separate areas to accommodate all of our guests. Our friends are still talking about the delicious fried chicken and mashed potato bar.
We didn’t have to worry about any details on the day of the wedding because Terry took care of everything for us. We had some of our own decorations and her team helped pack up our items and stored them for us. During the planning process, Terry was helpful in answering all of our questions. She responded to emails quickly and made herself available when needed.
We would highly recommend having your reception at The Chalfonte Hotel!
We got married in early June, and our wedding at the Chalfonte met our expectations and more. Terry and staff were very attentive and helpful throughout the process. Although my husband and I live in North Jersey, we were able to plan the smallest details with Terry's help. The day of our wedding was a beautiful, and the staff cared for our guests and we were able to make last-minute adjustments with food as needed. Since we brought all of the decorations with us, the staff were very helpful in storing them for us so we could collect them the next day. We appreciate all of the effort that was placed in making our wedding day so special! Thank you Chalfonte.
I am so happy we decided to have our wedding at the Chalftonte. We've loved spending summer weekends there as guests for years, and the experience of having our wedding there was even better. Throughout the long-distance planning process, Terry promptly answered every question we had and was very helpful. The wedding weekend itself was as low-stress as you could possibly expect, all thanks to Terry and her staff. Our guests had a great time and really enjoyed the different parts of the property to explore, and we were able to relax and enjoy ourselves. Everything was handled with care and professionalism, down to all the decorations being taken down and packed up for us to take with us the next day. We did not have to worry about anything but dancing and having a good time with our friends and family. We had an amazing time, look forward to going back next summer, and cannot recommend Terry and the Chalfonte enough.
I don’t even know where to start to attempt to express how wonderful our experience was at the Chalfonte. It truly was beyond our expectations and was nothing short of amazing. The venue, food, and staff are incredible!
Perfect Cape May wedding location! To start - the hotel is beautiful, unique and has an old- time charm that is quintessential Cape May. The interior and especially the exterior and grounds are perfect for taking beautiful pictures. Our photographer was in heaven with all the wonderful options to shoot. Our cocktail hour on the large wrap around porch was a big highlight and a big favorite of many guests. It was a beautiful sunny day but even if rain appeared, we knew the cocktail hour would not be affected due to the large awnings that provide ample coverage.
We had our immediate family stay at the Southern Quarters section which was great to give them a more private VIP type area for themselves to enjoy. The Magnolia room, where the dinner reception was held looks great at night and fills up perfectly with 100 people. The King Edward bar and the bar in the Magnolia room bookended each side of the dinner reception area to make getting drinks easy and quick. There are so many wonderful little areas (magic garden, cupola) to discover and enjoy throughout the property.
Beside having the perfect venue, the staff is equally impressive. Terry is the best! She was with us every step of the way and had recommendations for vendors that were fantastic. She is a joy to work with and has a great grasp of how to best take advantage of the nuances of the hotel. She was there all night with us and was very hands- on and was on top of everything! Dylan and the girls at the front desk (Vanessa, Jay….) were helping where ever needed. They all had a great attitude and many of our guest mentioned how impressed they were with the staff. We had the Fried chicken and Mahi Mahi for dinner as well as the breakfast buffet. It was some of the best food I have ever had at a wedding and our guests agreed!
We wanted a true Cape May wedding and if that is what you are looking for than look no further. Every aspect of the day exceeded our expectations to say the least. We have been back to the Chalfonte a couple times already this summer and we like to have a drink and sit in the rocking chairs on the front porch and remember such an unforgettable day. Thank you Chalfonte!!!
Ray and Amanda
I can't say enough wonderful things about Terry and her team at The Chalfonte. We had our wedding on May 11 and the entire day was perfect. We planned our wedding from Texas and Terry was so helpful in answering all my questions and making great recommendations. We brought a lot of decorations and her team set everything up for us. At the end of the night they packed everything up and even brought our gifts to our room! We had our ceremony in the garden and it was landscaped beautifully. Our guests loved the cocktail hour on the verandah, our signature drinks were executed perfectly! The reception in the Magnolia Room was fantastic! Everyone said it was the best fried chicken, mac and cheese, and mushroom ravioli they ever tasted. Highly recommend the buffet - you can't go wrong!! The whole day just felt effortless because of Terry's experience and attention to every detail. If you are looking for the quintessential Cape May Wedding, book The Chalfonte!!
We held our daughter's wedding at The Chalfonte this past October. All of our guests were charmed by the ambiance and history of the hotel, as well as the town of Cape May. Unlike many generic wedding venues, this hotel is so beautiful that you don't really need much enhancement in the way of a lots of extra decorations, which saves on the wedding budget! The guests especially loved our cocktail hour on the wrap-around porch, and there were so many perfect spots in and around for unique wedding photos. The staff was very attentive, and the food was delicious with lots of choices. Terry and her staff followed our instructions for setup of the reception very carefully and after the reception, they took great care with our items, especially some of our family heirlooms. We also appreciated The Chalfonte's flexibility in allowing us to personalize our wedding reception. Our guests also enjoyed the King Edward Bar on the premises at night, and the extensive breakfast buffet the following morning. There are many churches within walking distance and all of the local vendors we utilized for the wedding were also professional and easy to work with. All in all, we felt we got great value for our money having a wedding at The Chalfonte, and we enjoyed introducing our guests to this grand property and the town of Cape May. We highly recommend The Chalfonte to wedding couples!
My daughter and son-in-law were married at this beautiful hotel in June. Although we had a couple of challenges - bad weather and a power outage - everything went off without a hitch. Terry and her team worked nonstop to make sure everything was perfect. The hotel is charming and our guests loved it, especially the beautiful wrap around porch where family and friends would gather to catch up. The food and service was exceptional. Love the Chalfonte!
Our June, 2018 wedding at the Chalfonte was nothing short of spectacular. Situated in idyllic Cape May, the Chalfonte encompasses old world charm and character that set our wedding apart. Terry Carr and her staff accommodated each moment of the booking process through the day of our wedding. Despite having a city-wide power outage (and rain!), Terry’s team seamlessly transitioned our ceremony from the beach to the reception hall without hesitation, and made sure our cocktail hour and reception were unaffected. She coordinated with all our vendors, made sure our decorations were in order, and helped our musicians set up in the right place for our guests to enjoy – her team really took the stress out of the day. The food was wonderful (our guests are still raving about everything!), the King Edward Bar poured great drinks, and the entire staff working at the Chalfonte were wonderful and kind. We are so happy to have had our wedding at the Chalfonte – it was everything we could have imagined, and more!
We held my daughter’s amazing wedding at the Chalfonte. Everything was beautiful and well coordinated thanks to Terri Carr. Our guests loved meeting up on the wonderful porch. Although the weather didn’t cooperate for an outdoor ceremony, the Magnolia Room was gorgeous and provided an intimate setting for our ceremony. The food was great, I highly recommend the fried chicken! We all enjoyed hanging out at the King Ed after the reception. It was a weekend I will never forget and a perfect venue for our special day!
To say our wedding at the Chalfonte was magical, would be an understatement. From the moment we booked to the day we checked out, our experience with Terry and the rest of the staff was exceptional. Terry was the perfect mix of professional and personal. She was quick to answer emails and very flexible and accommodating of our changing needs and out of the ordinary requests. She made us feel relaxed and taken care of, and confident that we could accomplish a full weekend of wedding events without hiring an outside wedding coordinator. The charm of the Chalfonte hotel is undeniable and that goes for the building as well as the staff. From the moment our guests checked in, they were treated with kindness and positivity. The check in process was easy, the rooms were clean and comfortable and the breakfast was delicious. When it came time for the big event, we were all floored by the quality of the food and wine, and the sizable portions. The scallops wrapped in bacon were some of the best I've had ever had, and they were truly the size of my hand. The crab cakes were huge and the steak was perfectly cooked. We asked if we could have a signature tequila drink, and it came out exactly as imagined.
We decided to do the welcome party at the King Ed Bar and the brunch in the Magnolia room in order to get the most out of our time at the Chalfonte. This was a really good decision! This made the weekend easy for our guests and optimized our time with them, plus, the food, again, was unbelievable.
Many of our friends and family have told me that ours was one of the most fun and special weddings they've every been to. I am obviously biased, but I couldn't agree more.
Thank you to everyone at the Chalfonte for making our dream wedding (and on a budget no less) come true!!
Exceptional wedding venue!
I know it is a common review to hear, but the Chalfonte really knows how to curate the perfect Cape May wedding. The location speaks for itself - beautiful architecture, inviting wrap-around porch and food selections that are on top. We held our ceremony and reception all within the hotel grounds and I could not have been more pleased with the way the day unfolded. Our ceremony on the front porch was elegant yet casual, the cocktail hour flowed seamlessly thereafter, and the dinner reception was a blast. The staff at Chalfonte - including our wedding planner Terry Carr - went above and beyond to ensure all details were in place leading up to the wedding day and throughout the evening. Many of our guests mentioned that it was one of the best weddings they had ever been to!
If I could do it all over again I would - do not hesitate to make The Chalfonte your choice for a picture-perfect wedding day.
When looking for a wedding venue in Cape May, we knew without even having to think about it that the Chalfonte Hotel would be absolutely perfect. The setting is unbelievably picturesque, and Terry, the venue manager, is an outstanding coordinator. She worked with us every step of the way to make sure everything was organized in a timely fashion, and didn’t skip a beat when we decided to move our ceremony inside at the last moment to avoid issues with the weather. We had 85 guests and everyone complimented our choice of venue, not to mention the delicious buffet dinner! There are so many tough decisions when you’re wedding planning, but finding a venue in Cape May doesn’t have to be one of them—choose the Chalfonte and you can rest assured knowing you’re in the best of hands.
Beautiful venue for a truly intimate wedding. Terry and the staff were wonderful to work with and attentive to every detail. The food was absolutely delicious and enjoyed by everyone. Our outside rehearsal event/dinner and wedding were events everyone will remember for a lifetime!
Our daughter had her wedding reception at the Chalfonte and it was just beautiful. The food was fabulous and the venue was perfect for a beach wedding. Terri was helpful and responsive; however, we did encounter some frustration with the reception set up and guest check -in. Guests were to receive welcome bags at the front desk at the time of check in; a large number of our guests did not receive them. Decorations and favors were stored in multiple areas (the storage closet is far too small); staff didn't know where to find items. The favors were missed until later in the evening (some guests left without them). I would still give the Chalfonte a strong rating, but would suggest they review some internal organization.
We could not be happier with our choice of the Chalfonte for our wedding reception. Terry and her team were incredibly knowledgeable, accommodating. Our reception was set up so beautifully, exactly the way I wanted. We didn't have to do any set-up, I just dropped off my DIY decorations and the team made it happen. Our photos turned out gorgeous due to the charming nature of the hotel background. All of our guests continue to rave about the food, the fun and how beautiful our wedding was!
Our May 2018 wedding at the Chalfonte was a blast! We were sold on the history and character of the hotel, and Terry and her staff really delivered on the rest. Terry was a breeze to work with - her even-keeled manner was very reassuring leading up to and on the day of the event. She was great about recommending different options and flexible with our special requests. And in addition, made all the right decisions when we didn’t know what to do (like where to put all the random decorations and homemade desserts that kept multiplying in the days leading up to the event). Our guests raved about the charm of the venue and the food was great, too. And if you’re on the fence about the post wedding breakfast, go for it. It was an unexpected highlight for us - both for the amazing spread of delicious food and the chance to recap with friends and family about how great the wedding was.
Well above hopes and expectations! We had to flip our plans around due to weather and move the ceremony into the reception space - far as I know it went flawlessly. Terry was flexible, accommodating, quick to respond and address any questions/concerns from day one. The Chalfonte is all things charming and even inspired in me a vintage vibe theme for the whole affair. So yes - five stars!
My daughter always wanted to get married in Cape May. It was a special place for her. We decided on the Chalfonte Hotel. The accommodations were great. My family rented the southern mansion and other guests reserved rooms in the hotel. The rooms were nicely done but the bathrooms in some of the rooms were small. It is a Victorian hotel.
The Bartender was great and we spent Friday evening after the rehearsal there catching up with family. The ceremony was on the Beach and the reception was at the Chalfonte. WE had a stand alone cheese station with hummus and brie. The pass hor's D'oeuvres were delicious especially the lemon rosemary shrimp. The reception followed the cocktail hour. The spinach salad was good but had too much dressing . The filet, buttermilk potatoes and Brussels sprouts were delicious. We had about 105 people which was perfect for the room which we also had a photo booth. The staff was attentive and great. Terry thorough out the whole process was great and extremely helpful. Sunday morning we hosted a breakfast there for our guests. The Breakfast buffet was delicious.I would highly recommend the Chalfonte.
Our wedding at the Chalfonte was perfect! I live abroad and had to schedule appointments around my trips to the States in the months leading up to the wedding. Terry Carr was always available and willing to accommodate, even in the middle of winter when the hotel was closed! Terry was extremely helpful throughout the whole process and took care of details like ordering special wine to accompany dinner and having the servers pass out chocolate covered strawberries after the cake was cut. She coordinated with our various vendors and month-of planner and we did not have to worry about anything except enjoying our day. My Italian fiancé and his family were very impressed with the service and the food, which says it all, as Italians have very high standards! The appetizers were delicious, as were the entrees. Everything was plentiful and no one went home hungry. The venue is perfect, from the front porch for cocktail hour, to the beautiful dining room. The Chalfonte will always be a special place for us!
A month has passed since our daughter's wedding at the Chalfonte and our guests are still raving about the day and how much they enjoyed it! The food was delicious and appetizers were out of this world and seemed never-ending. We enjoyed them in the relaxed atmosphere of the Chalfonte's porch, in the rocking chairs, on a beautiful fall afternoon. Credit must be given to Terry Carr. She promised our daughter, Amy, all would be as she wished and it could not have been more perfect. Nothing was too much to ask. Most planning was done long-distance but she was available to meet when it was convenient for us. I would highly recommend the Chalfonte to anyone for their special day.
Better than we imagined! We had the perfect 150 person wedding this October and would not have changed a thing! From getting ready in the bridal suite to the cocktail hour on the porch and the adorable ceremony in the tin garden. Thanks to Terry and her team every detail looked perfect and we didn't lift a finger that day- it all came together as we had planned and discussed! Terry was incredibly responsive and helpful in every way. The food and the service were both wonderful- we received many compliments!! Our family and friends were blown away by Cape May and especially by The Chalfonte- it's beauty, charm and staff! We cannot say enough great things and would not hesitate to recommend this venue for both ceremonies and receptions!
The Chalfonte Hotel provided us with the romantic, Victorian feel we wanted for our wedding day. Our 130 guests spent hours on the large, wraparound front porch, and everyone raved about the service during dinner and dancing! The crabcakes were exceptional, as always, and the drinks were mixed perfectly.
We recently had our wedding on Sept 27, 2017 and everything was beyond magical! The atmosphere and just overall relaxing vibes of the hotel was amazing. Wedding planning was incredibly stress free. The staff was more than accommodating and helpful. They truly made everything feel so effortless. I also do not have enough words to describe our wedding coordinator, Terry. She was incredible to say the least. She was on top of everything from the moment we booked our wedding. Her response time to every question was amazing no matter how silly the request/question was. She was more than accommodating, even when we had to change the date of the wedding!
The day of the wedding she had every single detail covered. I of course started to stress and talking to her and seeing how she had every single one of my concerns taken care of was just a sigh of relief. All of my worries went away instantly and I just felt calm and was able to enjoy my day. She is truly amazing. She just makes everything look so incredibly effortless.
Beyond magical!
Highly recommend over any banquet hall.
Looking forward to spending our anniversaries at the Chalfonte!
Our reception was perfect! Highly recommended!!
Terry and the rest of the staff at the Chalfonte made our wedding reception everything we wanted it to be! From the gorgeous, historic building, to the delicious food, we couldn’t have been happier! In particular, Terry was a delight to work with! Her level of experience made us feel comfortable and confident through every step of the planning process!
From the moment we toured The Chalfonte to the last dance of the reception, Terry Carr and the staff treated us like VIPs. The food was delicious and the brunch we enjoyed the next day was fantastic. My daughter and new son-in-law as well as both families will certainly recommend The Chalfonte to other couples looking for the perfect venue.
The Chalfonte Hotel was truly the wedding of my dreams! The Hotel has so much charm and character. It truly is beautiful! It was like stepping back in time! From the beautiful chandler we had our ceremony under to the carriage ride .Terry and her staff truly go above and beyond to make sure all your requests are taken care of! Our dinner was outstanding! Terry and her staff were on top of things! All our guest raved about the food! Also Terry and her staff decorated everything for us and it all looked beautiful! They also will take down for you to! It made our time preparing for the wedding so stress free! One of my most favorite parts was I got to throw my bouquet off the balcony! That was really fun! This was a destination wedding for my husband and I and I have to say Cape May was the perfect place! The whole town had such a wonderful vintage vibe! Every one we met was so sweet and we just loved all the things to do and see! We will definitely be back to visit! If you are looking for your dream wedding check out the Chalfonte Hotel!! You won't be disappointed!
Our wedding at the Chalfonte could not have been more perfect- Terry and her team provided such a warm and accommodating atmosphere for my friends and family. We loved the charm and history of the Chalfonte, and we are looking forward to visiting again on future anniversary trips.
Throughout the planning process, Terry was so patient and helpful with my endless questions- it really helped calm my nerves. The Chalfonte is really a top notch venue- not your average country club or banquet hall!
Our son and his beautiful bride's wedding ceremony, reception, and brunch took place at the beautiful and historic Chalfonte Hotel. The whole weekend was a wonderful 'destination wedding' experience for everyone. Golf at Cape May National on Friday, the beach, historic trolley tours, and shopping were all nearby. The Chalfonte offers a quaint and welcoming vintage atmosphere with it's spacious lobby and public rooms, the King Edward Bar and Magnolia Room. And the porches!!! What a delightfully relaxing place to add to the charm and old-Cape May atmosphere!!!
Miss Lucille's kitchen did not dissapoint! (The fried chicken is a must!) And Terri Carr, the event coordinator didn't miss a detail! The staff was attentive, helpful and friendly. We couldn't have asked for a more wonderful and memorable weekend! Perfection!!!
