I wish I didn't have to write this review but I want to warn other couples before booking. This is a beautiful venue but the management completely ruined the entire experience for my husband and I. I'll list my top concerns below.
1. the Inn Management changed multiple times throughout our planning process and the lack of consideration and assurance from the Inn was horrible. There was no transfer of information so we essentially had to start from step 1 with the new management.
2. The Inn had never done a lobster bake for 120 guests before and did not communicate this to us throughout the entire process. We learned this after our wedding. They served some of our guests RAW lobster and barely batted an eye at it once confronted with this. My wedding planner and her staff were bussing tables, serving tables, serving drinks, and assisting the event staff the entire wedding.
3. Under 36 hours before the wedding the Inn informed us that the wine (FROM THEIR MENU) and the beer we had requested, wasn't available.
4. The actual accommodations are not up to par with their price tag. The grass outside of the Inn (where the wedding tents are placed) are not well kept given the amount of weddings hosted at the Inn. There was so much dirt they had to put brown needles down to cover this up which really stuck out in pictures. The rooms had luggage scuff marks all over the wall and the bathrooms were not properly cleaned.
5. The day of the wedding, we were informed the food and beverage coordinator would not be on site. This clearly caused a lot of issues for the staff who were at the Inn and left the whole wedding disorganized. The young staff (who are not to blame) were left with little to no direction. Luckily our wedding planner stepped in to help.
6. Lastly, it felt like we had to reinvent the wheel to plan this wedding. There should be more guidance and instructions from the Inn but we felt we were given very little info to help organize how to get guests to the Island, how to deal with vendors on the island, etc.
Overall, if you are choosing to plan a wedding at Chebeague Island Inn - hire a wedding planner, have a small or micro wedding, and keep incredibly detailed notes to help make up for their lack of communication and record keeping.
This place is magic! I didn’t have a list of wants for our wedding just a way I wanted the weekend to feel. Chebeague did exactly that- it was sophisticated yet cozy. The food was AMAZING! There is obviously more coordinating required with an island but Rylan and Caitlyn helped us navigate every step of the way. It felt so special for us and our guests! We loved everything about our weekend at the inn and look forward to coming back for years to come!
Let me start by saying from the first time I stepped foot on Chebeague Island Inn property I immediately fell in love and knew there was no where else I wanted to spend my special day! Caitlyn was incredible to work with, she answered all of my questions leading up to the wedding day. Our guests gave the food great reviews and numerous people told us that our wedding was one of the best they had ever attended. I was also pleasantly surprised that questions or comments I had in my head were immediately executed without me having to say anything.
The only aspect I was disappointed about was having random people hanging out at the inn on our wedding day. I understand that due to COVID there was no where else on the island to eat breakfast or lunch but there were people hanging out in the great room, down by the firepit, sitting at the bar and playing cornhole on the front lawn about an hour prior to our ceremony taking place. I felt like this took away from making my entire day special. In the future when wedding receptions are taking place exclusively inside the inn, as opposed to a tent on the lawn, it would be a nice touch to close off the inn to just wedding guests for the actual day of the wedding.
We hosted our micro wedding at the Inn this September. It was a gorgeous event and everything went accordingly to plan. The inn’s staff was unbelievably helpful, and Caitlyn was seriously the best coordinator. We loved the food and our guests really enjoyed their stay. We highly recommend.
Words simply cannot express just how amazing the Chebeague Island Inn is as a wedding venue. My husband and I got married here in August 2021 and could not have had a better experience! The entire team at the Chebeague Island Inn exceeded our expectations in every way possible. First off, their Sales & Catering Manager, Caitlyn, is absolutely phenomenal. We are convinced that there is no one better in the business than her! From the booking process to the day after the wedding, she made us feel so special and cared for every step of the way. Furthermore, she is so responsive, kind, organized, and on top of things that we always felt a sense of comfort and trust knowing that Caitlyn was the one handling our special day. She went above and beyond in so many ways to make sure our wedding was everything we wanted it to be.
When it comes to the venue itself, oh my gosh it does not get more magical than the Chebeague Island Inn! The scenery is spectacular and the inn itself is filled with so much charm and warmth, we never wanted to leave. Additionally, the entire staff was so welcoming and friendly, they made all of our friends and family members feel at home throughout our entire wedding weekend. On the top of that, the food was incredible and we still have so many guests telling us our wedding was the best wedding they have ever been to. I have a feeling we would not have had this same reaction if we had picked a different venue.
Because of the Chebeague Island Inn and the entire team behind it, my husband and I had a wedding that was better than we could have ever imagined. If you are considering this venue, definitely don't think twice! You will be SO happy you chose it!
I cannot say enough great things about Chebeague Island Inn and the entire staff that made our wedding weekend possible! Our wedding was on a Saturday in September and we had the most perfect, insane weather ever - clouds, sun and rolling fog all in one day. First off, Caitlyn is an absolute rock star and as others have said, is extremely on top of everything. She's super responsive over email and answered every single one of my questions throughout the planning process in a timely manner. Sarah at the front desk made our stay extra awesome - so friendly, so sweet and cool! Shout out to Tide for being awesome as well! Chef Matt Ginn, knocked it out of the park - many of our guests said that we had the best food they've ever had at a wedding. Ryan and the Tavern staff were extremely accommodating and helpful as well!
I have 4 callouts and will caveat that I have event planning experience which really came in handy. 1. You are responsible for renting tent, tables, flatware, etc... this was a lot easier than it sounded so don't be intimidated by this! 2. You need to hire a day of coordinator in the very least to handle vendor logistics, etc... If you don't have event planning experience, I recommend hiring a longer-term wedding planner to help 3. Ideally, you want all guests to stay on the island. It was a little stressful to get all of our guests accommodations - this could have been due to lack of availability in covid times though. It ended up working out but it was a lot to explain in terms of how to find a house. Many are not on Airbnb but Caitlyn has a list of places/contact info. There are not many photos of the houses and while the houses are charming, they are very well lived in and not like a brand spanking new rental house. And 4, it's a lot to explain how to get to the island by ferry. It's not hard when you're actually traveling but it's a little different than what most expect. I ended up taking a video to document the process for the CTC Ferry which guests found helpful.
Thank you again to Chebeague Island Inn, we will be back!!!
We hosted our wedding at the Chebeague Island Inn and they absolutely knocked it out of the park on all fronts! First of all, the scenery doesn't get any more Maine than that. Waterfront views on an island with a very quaint, charming inn (none of that stuffy super-fancy stuff - totally not our style.) The best part was that you do not have to travel far to get to the island. Though you are so close to Portland, you'd never know it based on how tucked away the location feels. The rooms at the inn are also so sweet! Secondly, the food was amazing. All of our guests commented on the generous portions on their plates and the delicious flavors. We were extremely pleased ourselves - from the passed apps to the cheese station to the dinner. Lastly, but certainly not least, Caitlyn (their Sales + Catering Manager) is a superhero angel!!!! She was incredible to work with. She was extremely responsive over email (usually responding same day, even on weekends.) She was extremely detail-oriented, asking us every little question beforehand to make sure nothing went undecided before we arrived on the island. She was generous with her time and served as the point person at the inn for all of our other vendors (which is saying a lot, seeing as everyone had to take a boat to get there and had questions about how to do so.) More than anything, Caitlyn fought to make sure we had the day she promised us. Whether that meant getting on a ladder to hang 10 strands of twinkle lights or fending off some inn staff who were trying to place flower boxes right where the ceremony aisle was supposed to be, she was truly our champion. Also, Caitlyn never bothered us with any questions - she made sure it was taken care of without having to involve me or my husband. We really appreciated that. If you are considering having a wedding here, don't hesitate - call Caitlyn to set up a conversation. If you feel up for the island logistics, it is well worth it.
It is one week ago today that we experienced the most magical vow renewal event at the Chebeague Island Inn! This would have never happened if it wasn't for Caitlyn, Glen, Matt, and Jess at the Inn. Every detail, every morsel of food, to the timing and atmosphere was simply superb!! The rooms are beautifully quaint and cozy. The views were magnificent. And, ohhhh the sunset!!! The precision in all the details was key because it was a surprise kept for a very long time. I can not express in words how grateful we are. Our weekend could not have been more perfect! We are still talking about it and how your staff made us feel like family. They really went above and beyond my expectations!! And did I mention the views!!??
Location, location, location! Highly recommend this unique and special island destination venue with old world charm ! Quintessential Maine at it's finest!
