Our wedding at the Crowne Plaza Northstar was everything we imagined and more. The wedding coordinators were so helpful and accommodating throughout the whole process. They worked so hard to make the day perfect and it really was, the sky garden and the ballroom looked so much like a fairytale it blew me away.
What an incredible venue!! Amanda was awesome during the process of planning our wedding ceremony, she always responded quickly and answered all questions. Our guests made many comments on the beauty of the rooftop and we are so thankful we used this venue! They were watching the weather for us and had everything set and ready just as we asked. We would pick them for our ceremony again!
Crowne Plaza Minneapolis was truly a delight and gave exceptional service throughout our entire wedding process! I get so many compliments on how well the entire wedding day flow was and the included decor and set up was spectacular. I highly recommend checking them out if you want a “as close to stress free wedding day” as possible!
Pros: SkyGarden and food (beautiful ceremony area and food was good, just not worth the headache)
Cons: Unorganized, Numerous " miscommunications" throughout planning and Banquet Event Order, drunken hotel guests DURING ceremony and cocktail hour, NO wedding coordinator throughout the reception, NO updates throughout cocktail hour or reception that wine/beverages were out, poor cleanliness of hotel rooms.
READ THE FINE PRINT AND REMEMBER EVERY LITTLE DETAIL IN YOUR CONTRACT!!!!
NOTE: 10.775% Food tax charge, 13.275% Alcohol tax charge, IN ADDITION to: 22% Gratuity charge (and they still have a tip jar out during your cocktail and reception)
We had our wedding ceremony AND reception at the CPNS, and to be fully and bluntly honest, if I could go back, I would have NOT had our wedding with this venue and MAYBE just the ceremony.
Due these facts:
To start, there were drunken hotel guests sitting outside of their rooms DURING our ceremony and cocktail hour and inviting themselves to OUR guests drinks and appetizers to where my father had to politely ask them to have common courtesy and be respectful, NO one made us aware that we ran out of wine during our cocktail hour even though we were told that someone would be checking in with us on our alcohol throughout the day and evening, therefore our guests were paying for their own drinks, in addition we were still charged for the service of a 2nd keg that we NEVER even used.
In addition, we signed our contract in 06/2017 and had our wedding in 09/2018. Now, throughout the whole process of planning your wedding it can be VERY stressful and you think hiring a venue they will ease that stress, unfortunately for us there was ALOT of "mis-communications" and errors throughout planning. The Banquet Event Order is a VERY important summary of your wedding and I had to wait weeks for a BEO, which ONLY lists Food and Alcohol (again pay very close attention to the fine print!)
Furthermore, on top of all of this we wanted to spend the extra $1,000 + for having our reception area decorated with lights and drapery and confirmed this option during our menu tasting, but, it some how "slipped through the cracks" and our reception area wasn't decorated even though we agreed of this service , so make sure the decoration option is CONFIRMED and on your summary for your BEO otherwise you have to triple confirm for these services. Again, going back to making sure you remember EVERY detail of your contract, I unfortunately missed the detail for the end date for hotel reservations for our guests and once our guests were trying to reserve their rooms they were unable to, so I brought it to the reservations managers attention and her response was "Well we have a Vikings game the next day so there's nothing I can do about it" and after crying and begging for forgiveness on missing the date she seemed very annoyed and finally accommodated a few rooms for us, but all of our guests were spread out all over the hotel. Furthermore, the hotel rooms are NOT worth the amount they actually charge, numerous wedding guests complained about the cleanliness of their rooms.
Not to prolong the negatives but I wanted write full detailed review on our experience with Crowne Plaza NorthStar for our wedding day, as it is it unfortunately ended up not being our dream wedding and left us with an AWFUL feeling to have spent thousands of dollars and in the end, you have regrets on your wedding venue.
From touring, to planning, to the big day, the Crowne Plaza Northstar was wonderful to work with it! My mind was at ease as we started planning for the big day, the team was flexible with us to edit the menu offerings to make our food and beverage fit within our budget. I LOVED that there were so many things included in my cost, chairs, center pieces, table numbers and cake cutting were all included in the price we were quoted. From helping with hotel reservation confusion of our guests to questions about the little things- no question or request I made went unanswered. The team definitely knows what they are doing and did an amazing job of keeping our big day on schedule. I'm still getting compliments on the food and the venue. Everything was perfect I would recommend the venue and Kadie Frey to anyone!
We looked at a few venues and although they were nice, we kept leaving wanting to think about it; never ready to book. One woman told us that venue shopping is like dress shopping: when you know, you know and you get "that feeling." Although we thought the Crowne Plaza was out of our price range, Ally explained everything that was included and we realized it really wasn't any more expensive than the other places we were looking. After we did the initial tour, we knew this was our venue and definitely got "that feeling!"
The Crowne Plaza provides nice, big rooms for getting ready, both for the bride's side and the groom's as well.
The skygarden was a perfect. It is a beautiful garden with a brick walkway, white chairs, and an alter with the city skyline in the background featuring the Foshay Tower. We felt like we were in a fairytale, yet still with the city vibe we like. The day ended up being a bit chilly, so our social hour was inside. The dim lit area right outside the ballroom provided an intimate atmosphere for our receiving line and for our guests to enjoy drinks and delicious appetizers.
The reception was a blast. Our centerpieces were simple and all that was needed in the beautiful space. We chose to add uplighting and it was amazing against the white chair covers, table cloths and draping.
Kadie and Ally were wonderful. Right from the beginning when Ally responded to my inquiry, through the initial tour, taste testing, final meeting and all our questions in-between, I can't say enough positive things about all their help. None of our questions were balked at and they made all our wants for the day come true. I kept expecting them to say 'no,' or, "we can't because...," but it didn't happen; they were very accommodating. And on top of that, fun to work with!
Thank you Crowne Plaza Northstar, Ally and Kadie for helping make our wedding day so special and the best day of our lives!

We had visited several venues before finding Crowne Plaza and after touring, knew right away it was where we wanted to have our wedding. The sky garden was what initially drew us in but we also loved the idea of having the ceremony, reception, and lodging for our guests all at the same place. I cannot say enough good things about Kadie. She was amazing during the whole planning process, answering all my questions day and night. As the wedding day approached, she personally reached out to all our other vendors in order to make sure the day would go so smoothly as possible. Knowing a professional was checking in on the timing of the flowers, cake, decorations, and all other details took such a weight off my shoulders and put my mind at ease. I would recommend Crowne Plaza and Kadie to anyone looking for a beautiful venue downtown Minneapolis.
Kadie and Ally were excellent to work with! Our ceremony on the Sky Garden was rained out and the back up plan was executed flawlessly. Ally worked with us day of and she took care of everything we needed. The planning process was smooth as well, and Kadie and Ally were open to meeting in the evening to suit our work schedules. The ballroom was gorgeous and dinner was served beautifully and efficiently. We had so much fun and I am so glad we did our wedding at the Crowne Plaza Northstar.
My husband and I got married here and had our reception in 8/27/2016 and it was perfect! Our coordinator here, Kadie Fry, did an amazing job answering all of our questions and made sure everything is in order. Our guests loved the amazing food and the atmosphere! It was also a bit more affordable with more bonus things (free amazing couple suite, bride and grooms rooms for getting ready, and more). There are also quite a few areas within walking distance to take pictures at. We could not be happier with our decision to get married and have our reception with our about 180 guests here!
If you are on the fence when it comes when it comes to deciding on your wedding venue, stop right now. You have found the place! The Crowne Plaza is beautiful for an outdoor ceremony in the city, and their wedding coordinator, Kadie, is one of the best things to ever happen to a wedding, EVER! We didn't want to spend a killing on our venue/food/drinks, and we wanted to do/worry as little as possible. The Crowne Plaza is extremely reasonable considering it's basically a "package deal." Almost everything is included in your rental/food package - the linens/napkins/dishes, on top of top notch wedding coordination from Kadie. She eliminated the need for a day-of wedding coordinator since she helped with the details and organizing with vendors that day, and even brought things to our attention that we didn't think of. Her communication is great too - any time we had a question, we knew we would get a prompt response from Kadie. The food tasted great, and everything went so smoothly! We can't thank you enough!
The Skygarden could not be more beautiful!! If you want a downtown wedding I highly suggest Crowne Plaza. It's downtown but also has a garden setting, couldn't get any better!! The food was delicious and the staff were EXTREMELY helpful! They sometimes even felt like our wedding planners. It was raining on our wedding day, it stopped just in time for the ceremony thank goodness, but Crowne Plaza has clear umbrellas for your wedding guests so they were prepared even if it continued to rain. Our wedding day was so great!!!
We looked at a lot of venues in Saint Paul/Minneapolis. We wanted an outdoor ceremony and the reception indoors. We found the Crowne Plaza Northstar was the best value and the most convenient for our guests. Many came from out of town and stayed at the hotel. Not to mention the AMAZING back drop of the Skygarden; where we had our ceremony. The staff were top notch and Kadie, the coordinator went above and beyond the call of duty! One of many examples of this was when around 4pm the night before the wedding we realized that steaming my giant dress was going to take hours and we had the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner that evening. I asked Kadie if she could find a place that would steam it overnight. She and her staff rushed around calling businesses and finally they contacted someone who agreed to the job. The dress was pressed beautifully and delivered to the hotel by 9am the day of the wedding. Again this is just one of the many things Kadie and the staff at Crowne Plaza Northstar did to make our wedding day relaxed and calm so that we could focus on our guests and each other.
What a venue and what a staff! We toured many other locations, but once we met Kadie (the Events Manager) and saw the beautiful venue, we knew we wouldn't be married anywhere else.
The view, of course, is stunning, but what is truly impressive is the service. The staff, lead by Kadie, is on top of Everything. Their attention to detail is astonishing. We are now a week out from our wedding and we're still hearing about things they took care of without us even knowing about it. We feel so fortunate that we went with our instincts and picked Crowne Plaza the second we met with Kadie a year and a half ago. I sincerely recommend you do the same.
The food was fantastic, the venue is breathtaking (pictures don't do it justice!), the staff was wonderful, the rooms are clean and spacious, and our guests had a blast. What more could you ask for?
If you're getting married in Minneapolis, do your self a favor and make the same great decision we did!
Truly the best day of our lives! We had our rehearsal , ceremony, happy hour, reception and dance at the Crowne Plaza Northstar and could not be happier with our big day. The one stop shop was perfect for our guests whether they were local or from out of town, all of our guests appreciated having everything in one place. All of the staff members that helped throughout the day were top notch and the customer service could not have been any better! We had our ceremony in the beautiful rooftop skygarden as well as our happy hour. It started to rain right after the ceremony but the hotel was equipped with umbrellas to ensure our guests stayed dry. They also seamlessly moved over 200 of our guests directly downstairs and resumed happy hour without a hitch. The Crowne also assigns a banquet/event manager to you for the entire day to be your personal hotel staff helper. Katie was awesome as she checked in multiple times throughout the day to see if we needed anything, met all of our vendors when they arrived and helped keep the timing of the day on track. The downtown Minneapolis local also lent itself to gorgeous back drops for photos. We have received many compliments from our friends and family of how great the day was, how convienent it was to have everything in one stop and how our guests could truly cut loose as soon as they arrived.
We LOVED having our wedding at the Crowne Plaza Northstar. We looked at tons of venues, and nothing compared as a downtown location with a quiet outdoor space for a ceremony. We did our wedding and cocktail hour in the Skygarden and our reception in the Great Lakes Ballroom, and it was PERFECT! The space is beautiful, the drinks/food were super tasty, and the staff was fabulous! Kadie did a great job coordinating on our big day and everyone went out of their way to make sure Peter and I felt like the center of the universe for a day :) THANK YOU, CPN!
One of my favorite parts? My bridesmaids and I spent the night before our wedding in the Northstar suite and woke up together, had breakfast/mimosas, and got ready. Highly recommend Lisa Reinhardt if you do want to do onsite hair/makeup as well! It was SO nice having our whole day unfold at one location.
A beautiful venue and a great staff! There is not a better and more affordable venue in DT Minneapolis. We looked at other outdoor options with the parks, and you can't beat the CPN in hundreds of ways. It doesn't need any added decoration, you can get ready right there, and the staff will bend over backwards to make sure your day is perfect. Kadie is a champ and I did not hesitate to put my ceremony in her hands. Book it if you can!
I cannot say enough good things about the Crowne Plaza Northstar Hotel in Minneapolis. They made planning our wedding a breeze. The team there (specifically Lindsey and Mariam) were amazing!! They made sure the day went off without a hitch and that we didn't have to worry about a thing. I woke up the next day (in our comped wedding suite) thinking, "I want to do that all over again". It was honestly that perfect. The food was amazing, we had salmon and chicken for our guests. They also provide a lot of little details for decorations so the bride and groom don't have to worry about it. They coordinated delivery and setup for our vendors. And honestly, I don't think there is a more beautiful place in downtown that the rooftop terrace. We had our ceremony and cocktail hour up there and the backdrop is just beautiful. Having everything in one location also helps when your guests are coming from out of town. I can't imagine having had my wedding anywhere but there!
Crowne Plaza Northstar Hotel was a great place to host our wedding. The sky garden was a great location for the ceremony. The staff was so wonderful and accommodating to all of our needs. Many of our guests commented on what a wonderful time they had and what a great venue the hotel was.
We are absolutely satisfied working with Crowne Plaza. The coordinator Joanne is absolutely helpful and easy to work with. We choose the plate service (gold package) and everything on the menu exceeded wedding food expectation. The venue is very flexible and really working to meet your need. I only give four stars because the hotel itself is kinda old and needs a remodel to fit downtown attire. We had wedding ceremony in their sky garden and it was perfect.
I would recommend everyone to have their wedding here.
We had our June 2013 wedding at the Crowne. Joanne, the wedding coordinator, is fabulous. She helped us plan all the details and answered all my questions- even toward the end when I was calling multiple times a day! :) We found the planning experience very smooth as a result. On the day of the wedding, I literally did nothing except get ready, because Joanne and her team did everything. Everyone kept asking if I was stressed, but how could I be when everything was being handled? One bad thing did happen- it rained for the ceremony, which was suppose to be outside in the Skygarden. They handled everying perfectly and had the backup space ready to go and decorated so everything still happened on time. That aside, everything was amazing. The food was great, the setup and transitions were great, and I just got to sit back and enjoy my wedding! One thing though, I thought it was a little expensive when everything was said and done, but you pay for them to literally take care of everything for you which was worth it in my opinion. I would highly recommend the Crowne Plaza Northstar.
Joanne took great care us from start to finish. She answered my emails and gave suggestions where she could.
The day of our wedding the weather was going to be questionable, but they were flexible with us using the inside or outside options.
We got to have our ceremony outside and it looked great and our guests raved about it!
The food was amazing and very high quality. Although the prices may look high here, the price includes: delicious food, cake cutting/serving, chair covers, table accessories as needed, great service, and more!
I recommend using a vendor for draping to really give the banquet room a romantic wedding feel, we used Lori Cole who has done the venue before and she also did a great job!
On a side note, the mashed potatoes are super yummy :)
This was our second choice of wedding sites. It was nice that the ceremony and reception could all be held at the same place. The roof top was amazing. The ballroom could use a little updating.
The staff at Crowne Plaza were fantastic. They went above and beyond. The skygarden is beautiful! It was great to have everything at one location, including overnight accommodations.
We held the ceremony and reception here on a Friday night. The skygarden is AMAZING and it was SO perfect to have the ceremony and reception in the same place - easy for guests and anyone who wanted to party hard didnt have to worry about how to get home! And, the hotel did all the cleanup after... SUCH A plus!!
They gave us a great deal on the room block for the guests and an even better deal for our room!!! Customer service was very nice, rooms were fantastic!
Food Tasting was terrible could not swallow sirlion it was too chewy, but they made up for it because the day of it was perfect. Food/Bev prices are high, service was great, very helpful and easy going. They got us what we wanted that was a special request. Our guests absolutely loved the skygarden, which was glorious for an early July wedding. Watch all the numbers when you get your BEO and remember every price you agreed on. Parking ramp prices were really messed up for all of our guests. Some who stayed for only the wedding spent $24, some $16, some $12. Overnight guests had a variety of prices as well.
LOVED this place! The coordinators were great. So nice and helpful. Always responded to my emails promptly the entire time we were planning. They also worked with us financially, and helped us cut costs significantly by eliminating a vegetable tray. They set everything up for us, just the way we wanted. All of our family and friends had a great time.
The 8th floor Skygarden is a beautiful little oasis in the city! Although it rained and we had to move the ceremony inside, they really did a great job accomodating us. Everyone thought it was amazing!
