The hotel is nice, but that is as far as it goes. I booked rooms a year in advance for my wedding weekend (because it was the same weekend as the local university graduation). As we got closer to the wedding, as I would reach out to the hotel for status updates, increase in room numbers, etc., I could never get a hold of the events coordinator Daniela. I would wait weeks to get a response back. Every call would go to voicemail and every email would go unanswered. At one point she said my emails were going to her trash bin and that was why she wasn't responding. One would think they would save an email to prevent that...being that we were corresponding for a years time. The lady at the front desk asked me if I was the mother of the bride when I came to drop our 80+ guest bags off (I'm 33). On top of that, there were 20 bags left at the end, meaning 18 guests didn't get their bags (we only had 2 no shows at the hotel). I personally explained to the front desk staff that each person should get a bag, and guests within an hour of that time were not given bags. The hotel gave the excuse that the guests didn't mention the room block code - but who knows that when they check in? Plus the hotel can see that when a guest checks in. They really dropped the ball and I had a couple hundred dollars worth of bags left over.
Eilleen, the events coordinator, was so great! Everything went smooth and the pricing of everything was better then anything else i found.
I met with the event coordinator to book the venue 6 months before my wedding day and requested 50 rooms be blocked off for my guests. When it came time to reserve my guests were told it was all booked up. Come to find out the hotel took on a marathon for the MS150 bike ride. I was never contacted about not having any rooms for my guests. Since it was a destination wedding my guests were all out of towners. When my mom and I talked to the coordinator she tried really hard to take the blame off of herself and blame me. It was too late to cancel and far too expensive so we tried to make the best of it. We ended up blocking off rooms at a nearby hotel for my guests. After speaking with the event coordinator's boss we were given a spa credit and my parents got to stay for free for the wedding weekend. The honeymoon suite was a part of the package deal when having a wedding there but we didn't get that particular suite. The spa was nice but the ladies were not so good. My sister didnt like her hair and told the lady this but the lady tried to convince her it looked good. My sister ended up taking it down before the wedding. My hair was in a low bun and i had a poof on the top of my head that leaned to one side and looked ridicilous. i voiced this before she finsied my hair and she did not fix it. In the end my mom finxed it for me (thank God for her). The lady who did my nails did a terrible job on my french mani. The white lines were uneven. I also wasnt given a place to get ready. I ended up getting ready in a room at the spa since it was downstairs and I had to make my way through sweaty drunk bikers myself until a event coordinator saw me and jumped to my rescue. (he got tipped pretty well). The place did add a bar on with short notice since my dad wanted one. The food was pretty good but a few of my guests didn't get the dish I orders bc they ran out. A few people didn't even get the same protein, but at least they served them something. Other than that the wedding went fine. It is not an experienced wedding venue but instead an event/ conference center so there can be anything going on while your wedding goes on. They wont tell you anything that may make you not book with them bc they have you by the cahones since its a contracted deal. To break contract you will have to pay them 25% plus any lost revenue. Pretty bad huh.
We stayed here after the wedding, along with most of our wedding party. Hotel is very nice, a little pricey, but it is the only full service hotel in San Marcos. Staff was friendly and even offered to keep the lobby bar open an extra hour for the after party.
Excellent Service--The staff were very attentive and did a great job handling the many details of a large wedding!
