Room was hot, lighting was too bright in the room. Tables were set up incorrectly. Guests had to move chairs. Everything we discussed regarding the room was incorrect when I arrived the night before. My husband and I had to hunt down wait staff for food. My guests had no direction on where to go when it started raining after the ceremony. They showed the room to another couple on the wedding day. The hotel representative was not present enough in my opinion. She reached out when I gave a poor Hilton survey which she "took note of", but never wound up actually discussing anything with me. Why should she though she already had $13,000 of our money. Would only recommend if you have a phenomenal wedding planner who can Crack a whip. Not at all what I expected from the Hilton brand. So very upsetting.

We used the Hilton Charlotte University Place for a pre-wedding Rehearsal Dinner for 28 guests in the Glenwaters Room. This room can hold a lot more people, but the way it was set up for our dinner buffet made perfect sense. Everything was set up at a comfortable distance so that we didn't feel crowded, nor did we feel the room size was too large. Amanda, our Event Planner, was wonderful to work with, and she can a "Can Do" attitude. Everything was set to our specifications and requests. The buffet staff efficiently removed empty plates off the guest tables. Kevin, our bartender, was especially good with the kids and even made them Shirley Temples. The Glenwater room is an irregular rather than boxy shape, which gives it more architectural interest. It also has a glass wall of windows that look out onto the manmade lake and fountain.
Reserving a private banquet room at the Hilton made more sense than trying to get seating for 28 people at a restaurant. Instead, we had an intimate dining experience, just for our group. We were able to have a welcome introduction and prayer, and conversation from table to table without feeling rushed. They also piped in their "house sound" background music for us.
The buffet food offerings were delicious. I especially recommend the green beans with toasted pecans, bacon, & carmelized onions (I love my veggies). The triple chocolate cake was the best chocolate cake that I have ever tasted.
I have no hesitation in recommending the Hilton Charlotte University Place for your private party or event.
They did a poor job and our wedding was very small in size and they couldn’t handle it!
When we booked the Hilton we had high expectations from them. We booked the highest premium plated dinner/bar package The Hilton offered. We had 34 guests!
To say we were very disappointed is an under statement. Maybe our affair was not big enough to be as important to The Hilton as it was to us, therefore the service was grossly lacking from the Hilton staff. These details were noted by management just a couple of weeks prior to the wedding So the notes were obviously either ignored by the staff or maybe they didn’t even get the notes.
1. No water in the lounge for the groom & best man from 2:30-4:00pm & no one from The Hilton staff even checked on them during this time to see if they needed anything! It was 90 degrees
2. Outside Ceremony. We (the entire wedding party) had to basically open the doors to get outside for the ceremony ourselves as the staff couldn’t locate any door stoppers & two people was not enough to open all 4 doors at the same time so we could get down the aisle.
3. Cocktail hour had no high top tables set up as discussed so my guests had to either stand with their plates, fork & drinks balanced with 2 hands or they located a few chairs/ sofa seats along the walls, still had to balance drinks, plates & forks. When 6 high top tables would have helped.
4. The Bartender was clearly NOT qualified to be a bartender at all! He obviously did not have any idea how to make drinks like a Long Island Iced Tea or a Cosmopolitan he could barely make the basics of drinks & it didn’t help that he did not have items to make drinks like seltzer/grenadine/triple sec. limes or cherries, so between the lack of mixers, garnishes & his lack of bartending knowledge this led to a disastrous bar. My guests could order only basic drinks, rum & coke or vodka & OJ.
1 guest ordered a Shirley Temple & he didn’t know what that was, so he gave her a Coke! Another guest asked for a vodka & Seltzer but he had no Seltzer!! We paid for a premium bar mind you and I expected a bartender with skills on how to make drinks along with the mixers available to make any drink anyone desired The bar ran out of beer an hour before the end of the reception!!! We paid for 5 full hours of a premium bar! Also we specifically told the catering manager NO TIP jar was to be placed upon the bar as my husband I would tip The Hilton staff as we did not want our guests to feel obligated to tip. However this bartender had to be told numerous times to removed the tip glass! This was after I personally told my 34 guests NOT to tip the bartender after he collected numerous tips during the cocktail hour.
5. Toast time: Upon me having to ask the captain to get the champagne out, the Champagne had to be rushed out as the best man’s toast was about to be said, as it was supposed to be pre-set for toast!
6. No water station set up in the reception area like requested.
7. The Wait staff was not attentive enough. I had to physically track down a waiter to fill my glass. The staff mostly stood around watching the dance floor & not being very attentive to water glasses.
8. Cake time: No cake plates on the cake table. I (the bride) had to ask for them to be placed out!
My husband & I were extremely disappointed that we entrusted The Hilton with our small and intimate wedding as we could have chosen so many other places in Charlotte to have been wed.
My husband and I got married here and it was an amazing experience. Great staff and team and delicious food!! Our wedding specialist Brittany and Bryce are the best and we're so happy that we decided to go with the Hilton. It was really a great experience!!
I would gladly have my wedding here again, since the Wedding Coordinator I finally ended up with Bryce (the first one quit after a week in) was extremely helpful, especially the day of the wedding.
Went well:
- beautiful hotel (we stay there all the time)
- the wedding coordinator
- the food was delicious (although they took mine and my grooms meals away to quickly)
-ceremony & reception back up space (it rain...moved in from the dock)
-bridal suit
Opportunities:
-the bartender was AWFUL and rude to the guests. I had to tell her twice to remove a tip jar. Our tip was included in the overall price of the open bar.
-ask a lot about the premium bar list. I was under the impression (since it was in writing), that true premium alcohol was included...NOT
-they will not book other weddings during the same timeframe, but it was prom time, and the hotel did very little about keeping prom guests out of our cocktail hour space.
Brittany is great at what she does. She thought of every detail that we forgot about along the way and made sure the day ran smoothly, just how we wanted.
They were accommodating and the place looked beautiful
Our wedding was about a month ago and Katelyn Freeman was our wedding
specialist at Hilton Charlotte University Place. My now wife and I
started on our wedding planning journey a year ago and we really
couldn't have asked for a better person to coordinate with for our
wedding than Katelyn! Not only did Katelyn help us with what seems
like a million questions and requests while we planned for our wedding
from out-of-state, she and her team exceeded our expectations as they
executed the day-of schdule as planned in our detail appointment. For
such a hectic day for the bride and groom, it was one less thing we
had to worry about during the most important day of our lives. For
any future newlyweds reading this, you will be in great hands with
Katelyn. Thank you so much for everything Katelyn! Q+J. 4.22.2017
I cannot say enough about the Hilton Charlotte University Place! I stayed here a couple of years ago and it was a nice place, great location. But my last stay (August 10-14, 2016) was the absolute best place for my wedding. From the time I started planning back in May, up until the actual day, the process was seamless. My wedding specialist, Katelyn Freeman, was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! She was the ultimate professional and the sweetest person you could ever work with. She made planning the wedding from afar (literally across the country) effortless. Upon checking into the hotel, the staff was super accommodating and made sure everything I needed was taken care of. The hotel was completely sold out and was hosting several events and reunion but the staff was friendly and went out of there way to assist my husband and all of our guests (as if we were the only ones there). The rooms were clean and comfortable and property is well kept. The area itself has lots to offer and is easily accessible to eateries, shopping, and the freeway. Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel and location for any and all occasions.
We worked with Emily and Angie and couldn't be happier. This is a beautiful venue and is worth the cost. Planning process was easy and straight forward. The only reason I am not granting them a 5 is because the breakdown crew was very irresponsible on this particular night and misplaced some of the items I brought in personally. The Hotel and coordinators are great, the room service and rooms were great. They were clean and Sheila did such a great job managing and handling our room block. I will definitely be finding reasons to go back.
A family member told my husband (then fiance) and I about this location. We called and inquired and luckily they were having a bridal show in the next few weeks. We were able to schedule an appointment after the bridal show with Rayna, the BEST wedding coordinator ever! We were sold! This location is very affordable and accommodating. We planned for a little over a year and Rayna was always available whenever we needed her. She was professional, friendly, extremely knowledgeable, just amazing! Even the chef and his staff were amazing. We had our rehearsal, rehearsal dinner and wedding at the hotel. They made us feel like the hotel was ours for the weekend. Anything we needed, they provided. It's actually pretty bitter sweet that the wedding is over but anytime we are in town we will definitely stay at the Hilton!
This location is HIGHLY recommended. You will not be disappointed.
I was very pleased with the staff at the Hilton. We didnt end up haing enough out of town guests, so we didn't block off rooms, however I would recommend them to other brides.
This was not a very great wedding venue for a wedding. When we got there, the room had not been broken down so we ending up setting up for the wedding very very late. Also the staff started breaking down our wedding at 10pm when we were contracted til 11pm. This cause me and my groom to miss partying with our guest! When we complained to the staff about this all they did was give us one free nights stay at the hotel when we were clearly cheated out of our money. This venue ruined my wedding dreams and I would not recommend anyone to this location.
The hotel grounds were beautiful, especially the outside dock where we had our ceremony. Melissa was very helpful in making sure everything went smoothly. I don't know what I would have done without all her help. The staff was very attentive and friendly.
I was thrilled with the experience I had with the Hilton. Melissa was amazing to work with and the all of the staff was helpful and courteous. My wedding day went flawlessly and everything was set up perfectly by the staff. All of my guests told me that it was one of the best weddings they have ever been to. I had both the ceremony and reception at this location
Very accomidating. Professional and one cue with eveerything!
The Hilton is very pretty and has many great spots for photos. The attendants we were assigned, for the reception, did not fulfill their duties, which was very disappointing. They were packing up our things early, didn't refill the candy bar (the mother of the bride had to), they bride and groom were not taken to their suite, and they lost some of the centerpieces (which the mother of the bride had to pay the florist double for). The ballroom was very pretty and the food was great though!
I received the best service and had the best wedding specialist Jenna Yates!!!!
That made my wedding and reception An Affair to Remember
