Holly Hills Country Club was everything my husband and I dreamed of! MaryKathryn and her team were a pleasure to work with! The entire venue is so beautiful, it was the perfect back drop for our ceremony and reception! The whole day was perfect, and MaryKathryn was wonderful about checking in and making sure I had everything I needed. I had absolutely nothing to worry about! The food was amazing, the service was amazing, and we had the most magical and perfect day! If you’re looking for a venue that’s affordable, beautiful, and provides great service, look nice further than Holly Hills! You will not regret it!
1 star because I can't do 0. Glad I was never a "dream about my wedding" girl because:
1. There's a leading up to coordinator and a day of coordinator that don't talk to each other.
2. Messed up invoices twice
3. Inconsistencies and limited follow through after months of emails
4. 0 Common sense: Coordinators in pictures, tables in the aisle way, etc.
5. Empty promises about what they could do layout wise ceremony/ reception inside (even with limited guests)
6. Staff take and post pictures without permission
7. Apps are unseasoned.
Yes, it was reasonably low-priced for the general stately feel of a venue. But I guess I got what I paid for.
There is absolutely nothing negative I can say about Holly Hills! my husband and I planned our wedding in 4 months and it would not have been possible without Jessica and the team at Holly Hills. From the first visit we felt like we were a part of the family. My husband and his buddies played golf the morning of. Me and my ladies got ready at the club and the picture perfect views made for an amazing backdrop for photos of all kinds. I honestly couldn't have had my dream day without this place!
We got married this summer, 2018, at Holly Hills and it was truly a dream. We were able to create the day we had wanted and come up with a special menu to cater to specific needs. Chef (as they call him) truly took the time to learn what flavors we liked, types of food and helped us create delicious combinations for our guests. The event planner was phenomenal, she kept tabs with me at all times with everything. She made sure that my vision came to life. I will forever look back at our photos and remember the beauty and character of Holly Hills Country Club, I would have never imagined a more perfect place.
My husband and I got married on 12/29/17 at Holly Hills. When I began searching for a wedding venue I had given up then randomly came across Holly Hills. When I began doing some research they were the most affordable and right in our price range. When we set up our appointment and came to visit we fell in love. From the time that we booked Holly Hills to the very moment our wedding ended Holly Hills helped us with every detail. On 12/29 it was a very cold and blustery day. The General Manager came into greet us, helped us with pictures including having hot water with lemon to keep us from getting frozen. I have already recommended Holly Hills to other brides! A special thank you to Mary-Katherine for all of her hard work and setting everything up just like I had imagined!
Planning a wedding (and rehearsal dinner!) at Holly Hills was an amazing experience. I worked closely with Abbey Fry, who was always accessible via email and phone (she answered inquiries on the same day, often within an hour!). We also had numerous in-person meetings to make sure every detail came into place just right. A few days before the wedding, we brought her 8 different boxes of decorations with instructions and she made sure everything was set up just right on the actual day. Her and her staff are one of a kind, and the day went off without a hitch because of them.
The food is incredible - the hardest part of the tasting was narrowing down our options, because we loved everything so much! We ended up doing a buffet style dinner so that guests didn't have to choose between the pork medallions and parmesan-encrusted tilapia. Delicious!! We were also extremely pleased with the bartenders.
The venue itself is so picturesque. I did a bridal shoot a few months before the wedding and Holly Hills allowed me and my photographer to go on the golf course to get the best shots. The day of the wedding, my husband and I had our first look at the bridge out on the course. I couldn't be happier with how all the photos turned out. We initially wanted to get married outside and have the reception inside, but since our guest list was 200 Abbey suggested that we flip it and get married in the main dining room, have cocktail hour in the upstairs lounge/outside porch and firepit area, and then have our reception outside in a tent where our guests would have more space. It turned out BEAUTIFULLY. The dining room was so lovely and we didn't have to worry about the elements. Having the reception in the tent was perfect as well - 2 of the walls were clear, and so when the sun began to set everyone could see and spontaneously went outside to watch from the hilltop.
Bottom line, I can't imagine having my wedding anywhere else. An amazing experience from start to finish!
Holly Hills was the perfect venue for our reception. Abbey Fry, the event coordinator, did a great job managing my party from day one: she helped us pick a delicious menu (the mashed potato bar was a big hit!), she coordinated with all my other vendors to make sure that the event flowed smoothly (even when we deviated from our originally-scheduled timeline), and she made the reception venue look great (we dropped off the decorations with instructions the week before the event and she set them up to perfection). The site is lovely (and they were so accommodating about photography--not only did my groom and I get some lovely pictures around the course on the day of the wedding, we were also able to schedule our engagement session there as well), the food is always delicious (my brother and his wife were also married at this venue), and the staff is friendly, professional, and courteous. I would not hesitate to recommend this venue to anyone looking for a beautiful site to host a wonderful night of dining, drinking, and dancing.
I would never refer anyone here. 1. We were told we could come the day before the wedding (Friday) to set up all of our decorations. We arrived that morning. Abbey was no where to be found. We began decorating with all the things we worked so hard on for the past year to put together. Later in the day Abbey showed up only to tell us we had to take our decorations down because they were having a Halloween party that evening! We had worked for hours setting everything up. We were told that one of the staff members took pictures and they would set it all back up the morning of the wedding. Well of course that morning the pictures "could not be found" and thank goodness for my aunt going over to check on things because they were not setting up correctly. 2. My mom bought a drink fountain to be used to serve sweet tea out of for the reception. She gave the staff instructions to keep it filled or else the motor would blow. We supplied plenty of gallons of tea to be used. During the cocktail hour the fountain was left to go dry and it blew up the motor on the fountain! Was not even able to use it for the actual reception. We also purchased the soda/coffee/hot tea package for all of the guests and Abbey nor any of the other staff informed any of the guests of that. They thought all they could drink was water and the sweet tea from the broken fountain that you had to use a ladle with to get the tea out. 3. The food was horrible! Nothing like the tasting! We chose 2 options. The tilapia and grilled chicken pasta primavera. There was no sauce on the pasta. We had Abbey come out to see the pasta dish. She actually argued with my mom about this and said since they were short staffed she was back in the kitchen and "saw" the chef put a lot of sauce on. My mom and I took pictures of the pasta. It was so dry and disgusting I couldn't even finish my plate. 4. The wait staff was young, rude and inexperienced. My uncle asked for a few more rolls at his table and was flatly told "that won't happen". Other guests told us that as the wait staff was serving the plated meals they were practically slamming them down on the tables. Also, we actually have photos of some of the wait staff using our photo booth that we paid for!!! Obviously they were too busy taking pictures in OUR photo booth to refill the toilet paper in the women's bathroom after several guests had informed them that it was empty. After the wedding, my mom met with the manager of events at Holly Hills and was basically told that Holly Hills does not rely on weddings at all as a part of their income. They make all their money from their members (ok, so plainly we would have gotten better service had we been members). And also they only do weddings to look good in the eye of the public (since they don't require you to be a member to have your wedding there). No remedies were offered and I, the bride, never even got an apology for all the things that went wrong. Basically it was a slap in the face. A year of planning and thousands of dollars later....
My husband's two sisters got married at Holly Hills Country Club so when we were in the planning stages of our reception, it was definitely at the top of our venue list. From the moment I had contact with Abbey, I knew immediately that I wanted to have our reception at Holly Hills. She was incredibly helpful for the several months leading up to the wedding as I changed my mind over a few major details. She took care of the changes immediately and we proceeded on without any issues. And that was indicative of how our reception went. It was flawless, from the timing, to the food, to the service, I could not have asked for a better time. The venue itself is beautiful and the layout is wonderful. I would highly recommend Holly Hills to anyone who asked.
My husband and I had our wedding reception dinner at Holly Hills on May 30, 2015. I've attended a handful of dinner events at Holly Hills over the years and was always impressed, but choosing them for our reception was above and beyond what I expected. From the first day we walked in to look around and ask questions, we were treated extremely well and made to feel like our smallish wedding was the most important thing in the world. We worked with Abbey over the course of several months to nail down the details prior to the wedding, and she was remarkably friendly and accessible, and offered us quite a few helpful guidelines and suggestions. When we first started talking to her, we had no idea what we were doing, but she made us feel like pros by the time we were done!
The day of the wedding was absolutely perfect! The staff had everything set up exactly the way we wanted and allowed us to come in very early to set up our own decorations. Our reception took place in HH's lounge area, which was perfect because it had access to the most wonderful outdoor patio that allowed us and our guests to enjoy the beautiful day and the stunning views during our appetizer hour! The service was excellent. Servers were extremely attentive but not annoying, and everyone on staff was so friendly and made our party feel so welcome!
And then there was the food. The Holly Hills culinary team definitely knows how to make a tasty meal. We got tons of compliments on the food, and the staff made sure we had plenty to go around!
I can't say enough great things about having our wedding reception at Holly Hills. We are so happy we chose it for our venue, and we can't possibly recommend it more highly. My husband and I are so pleased with the way our wedding turned out, and our guests have expressed to us numerous times how much fun they had. We had a very classy reception for a very reasonable price. If you are considering HH for your wedding, large or small, do it!! You won't be disappointed!
My husband and I got married at Holly Hills Country Club in September and absolutely loved it. The coordinator, Elizabeth, was so helpful throughout the whole wedding planning process from the first day we met through the end of the wedding. She helped answered all of our questions, was very accommodating to our personal needs/wants and made great suggestions for other essential vendors for the day like our cake designer and our reverend. In addition, the staff created such a welcoming environment and really helped to make the day run smoothly. It rained up until 2 hours before our planned outdoor ceremony, but as soon as it stopped raining, the staff was there to quickly help set up for the ceremony before guests arrived. In addition to our wedding, we also had our rehearsal dinner at Holly Hills country club. The food and staff were wonderful for both events. Holly Hills Country Club is a perfect wedding venue with beautiful scenery and wonderful staff to make your special day run smoothly.
My husband and I were married 5/17 church in Ijamsville, Maryland. We can't even begin to describe the process of choosing a venue for our reception and the excitement, joy, and relief we had in planning our reception at Holly Hills Country Club.
We were able to stick to our budget because of the affordability of Holly Hills. There was no loss of our hopes, dreams, and vision as we planned our wedding over our 5 month engagement. Holly Hills was beyond professional. The moment we met Elizabeth we were sold! It was like having a wedding planner! Words cannot describe the input, assistance and expertise that Elizabeth provided. Elizabeth was attentive to our needs, vision, budget & ideas that we brought to the table. Elizabeth provided recommended vendors which was a huge help. Our tasting was out of this world. The food and quality at our wedding were even better. We were able to bring items on Friday before our wedding which was a great help. Every time I visited, the staff was welcoming, accommodating, helpful attentive.
May 17 we were greeted by Elizabeth and her amazing staff, along with appetizers and drinks being passed. The staff members were attentive to every single person at our wedding. No one went without a drink, all ate well, and service was incredible. There was a small hiccup with the champagne toast we had planned. I noticed there were not champagne flutes on the table for our champagne toast. My mother spoke to Elizabeth. I don't know what happened after that, but within minutes servers were passing champagne to each of our guests in preparation for our speeches. Flawless. No one ever knew was a tiny little bump in the road and it turned out to be a non-issue. Throughout the night, my husband and I never needed a drink, servers were at our table regularly to check on our food, and we never needed a thing! All of our guests experienced the same level of service and this means so much to me. To have 100+ of our family and friends together and treated so well is a dream come true. It's a true blessing, and Elizabeth and her staff made it come to life.
Throughout the night, I began to have so much fun I forgot about cake cutting, garter toss /flower toss, and other events that are traditional. However, Elizabeth and the DJ were an amazing team that moved that reception along and ensured that all of these events happened with a natural flow. I never would've expected everything was done so flawlessly. The food was incredible the cake serving and cutting was perfect and I have to get great kudos to Holly Hills for not charging for cake cutting. It seems like a minimal fee, but these things add up so quickly and this was a huge help. We were also able to save on the cost of the room rental because my husband is a police officer (they do this for military too!)
I cannot say enough about Holly Hills, Elizabeth, and all of the staff. Every single interaction we had was amazing and made this entire process so enjoyable and so special. We looked at so many different places, and for the price and the level of service Holly Hills cannot be matched. The venue is beautiful, the people are incredible, and you cannot go wrong choosing Holly Hills for your wedding.
From my first contact with Margret to look at the venue through the last dance, everything was perfect. Margret, Emily and the entire staff worked tirelessly to ensure a positive experience for the wedding party and all of our guest. We received many compliments about how nice everything was (the grounds, the food, the staff). It was perfect!
I am so happy that we chose to have our wedding at Holly Hills. We had the ceremony outside on the lawn under a tent and the reception was inside. Everything came together beautifully! Margret, the coordinator, was great as well! She is really good at answering all your questions and helping you with anything she can. She responds to emails very quickly which helps with the planning. During the rehearsal and the day of the wedding she is right there keeping everything on track. We were pleased with the catering service as well. It was all beautiful!
Everything about Holly Hills was great! Margret was attentive and very responsive throughout the planning. She worked with me and was patient even when I was blasting email after email. The food and staff the day of the wedding were amazing too, everyone was extremely friendly and helpful! The venue itself is beautiful especially for pictures.
The wedding coordinator, Margret, was wonderful throughout the entire process. She would return emails fairly quickly and answered all of my millions of questions. The flexibility the entire staff showed on the day of my wedding was amazing. It was a quick last minute decision to move the ceremony inside, they did it, made it look beautiful, and I did not have to worry about anything. I would definitely recommend Holly Hills to any one else who is looking to get married in the Frederick area.
The reception and ceremony were both beautiful at Holly Hills. Margret was so helpful and knowledgable. She really made the wedding a stressfree and smooth day! Would recommend this vendor to everyone and anyone
Our wedding coordinator, Margret, is absolutely fabulous! It is obvious that she is phenomenally talented at her job, and she was a dream come true to work with. Margret was never overbearing with ideas and always let us use our own creativity--she only helped when help was needed, which is what we were looking for. She is extremely organized and efficient, and on top of this she has a wonderful personality. The venue is absolutely stunning with gorgeous photo opportunities and the food was amazing! The entire staff was outstanding and should be commended for their attention to detail, courteousness, and enthusiasm for their work. Thank you a thousand times for the perfect wedding!
Margret the event planner at Holly Hills is just amazing. She handled everything from the tasting to decorating. She recommended some of our other vendors and every recommendation was excellent. She's so easy to work with and very thorough and accommodating. Everyone at Holly Hills was a pleasure to work with thru the whole process. The food was excellent and despite the rain and wind on our wedding day Margret and the rest of the staff quickly assisted the photographer to do what they could inside the country club for photos. They were even putting a table cloth under my dress so the bottomw would not get wet while we were taking quick photos on the balcony despite the rain! They were all amazing! She just took care of everything. We brought our party favors and centerpieces extra flowers to decorate and she set up all the tables chair covers (rentals that she handled). I knew she was the perfect person when she told us she didn't want to see us on the wedding day running around and decorating that she'd handle that she wanted to see us after we were married! Just took so much stress off the entire process. Planning the reception was the easiest part of it all!
