We live in the SF Bay Area and traveled down to Monterey for the weekend to check out venues. We had set up time to visit the Intercontinental a couple weeks prior to our visit.
When we got there, we waited in the designated meeting spot for a few minutes, and I decided to check on the person we were supposed to meet and went to the front desk. The front desk told me that this person was out and not going to be back until Monday. MONDAY. This was a Saturday. I never got any note or anything that we would not be meeting today.
This was an incredibly disappointing and disrespectful experience. If they can’t even get it together to SELL us on the venue, I don’t know what it would look like to actually have our wedding at the venue.
Highly do not recommend.
My fiance (now husband) and I decided to do our covid "minimony" at the Clement. I saw the venue with my family and absolutely LOVED it. The coordinator at the time Haley was so, so great. We got all our vendors booked and I was confident things would go well. Haley left and she was great about transitioning us to a new coordinator, but I was left feeling like because we were a small wedding, we were not prioritized. I had a really hard time getting a hold of the new coordinator to the point where my dad had to call to get a hold of someone.
We are super laid back, so I was not upset that we did not get the five star service I had expected, however I was disappointed I wasnt informed that we didn't have AV until my final call with the venue (meaning no music down the aisle for me), and we didn't have time to find any. We also didn't see the venue wedding day coordinator at all on the day of our wedding to the point where our STELLAR photographer, heidi borgia, actually stepped in and made sure I knew where to go, when to walk, and got our family to where they needed to be. The package did come with a hotel room, but we were super disappointed that the room itself did not have any sort of view. I have to say the banquet staff and bartender were great (made up for the night not going well!), but overall my husband and I felt like for the price we paid, we were unfortunately not prioritized in the way we should have been . We had the larger venue ceremony space. paid for the whole ballroom, and had expected stellar service! I don't think this necessarily reflects the overall experience at the clement, especially since it was a covid summer wedding (2021), but I still felt I needed to share my experience for brides who have smaller scale events at the clement.
One last note-the food is AMAZING!
My husband and I can not rave about the Intercontinental The Clement more. Our wedding was everything we hoped and dreamed it would be and that was all thanks to Hayle, Arlely and their teams. Hayle and Arely went above and beyond the call of duty not only for me but also for our family and friends. From the very beginning, Hayle was insanely easy to work with. Not only did she answer every question I had (and I had a lot) but she made sure to make herself available on all of my last minute pop ins with my in laws, parents, friends, and more. She was the key component to making sure our day went smoothly. She took on all responsibilites and set up the wedding using her own lense and it was PERFECT. She took my vision and her lense for the property and designed the perfect space for our reception and honeslty there was nothing that I would have changed. She is unbelievable sweet and helped with EVERYTHING and always had a smile on her face. We cant wait to come and celebrate our wedding for years to come back at the intercontinental and highly recommend this space to anyone who wants the perfect day, with the perfect view and the most amazing team to work with.
Thank you, Hayle and Arely for making our wedding day the absolute best day of our life. We are so thankful and appreciative of your hard work and welcoming us with open arms!
EVERYTHING WAS ON POINT. Our wedding was beautiful and we owe a lot of that to Hayle and her team at Intercontinental. My father passed suddenly just a couple of months before our wedding day, and Hayle was flexible and gave me the space I needed before resuming planning. She sent flowers to my family, and made sure we tied up all of the loose ends to make up the planning time we’d lost. She has an eye for detail, and the team working there are true professionals (i.e. they’re not going to simply sloppily lay out your escort cards, they will arrange them meticulously). In addition, my mind was strangely at ease all morning on my wedding day, I wasn’t worried about anything and felt confident in all of the arrangements we’ve made ahead of time--a rare thing in the wedding world and for me! Hayle didn’t miss a beat, and we are so grateful.
As far as the venue itself - our guests are STILL talking about the view and what a beautiful place it is, and it’s been more than 6 months since our wedding. It will go down in the books. Our wedding took place during one of the busiest 3 day weekends of the year, but you would’ve never known it (except hotel rooms were sold out, but that was expected) and it didn’t impact our big day in any way. The staff was professional all around, and the bartenders were beloved by the end of the night. Our reception took place in the upstairs ballroom, and our DJ had to turn off the bass because of guest complaints - something to consider when choosing between the two ballrooms.
We are so grateful we chose the Intercontinental, we had such a positive experience and the amount of trust I was able to place in the team there speaks directly to their professionalism.
Our wedding at The Clement Monterey was pure magic. We loved the central coast setting at first look, but Cara, the event coordinator, was the icing on the wedding cake (although we had wedding pie instead of cake.) Cara was organized, helpful, creative, and very fun. We would have happily had her as a wedding guest if she was not working our wedding. Because of her, we did not hire nor need a wedding planner. Cara and her team were very accommodating, helping us to design our dream event. The venue is beautiful, and the flow of our wedding was effortless. We received many, many compliments on the food which we feel like is usually not a wedding highlight. We loved being on Cannery Row, smelling the ocean breeze, with all of our guests staying at the IC or nearby. Walking out of the hotel and running into your wedding guests all weekend makes you feel like a celebrity. Thank you Cara and the entire team, from the funny staff who did check-in to the friendly staff who worked our event. We return to the hotel often to remember the magic!
If you are looking to celebrate the best day of your life then this is your location. It's the best view of the central coast and all staff members are incredible! Cara and Shelly are so attentive and will take great care of you, you will be stress free and relaxed. You can have your ceremony and reception here while dancing the night away over looking the ocean. My husband and I looked at several places and can not be happier about this location, friendly staff, great service, and all the small details they put into making our day perfect. Look no further if you want an unforgettable day!
The staff at The Clement went all out to make our day as special as it could be. They paid very careful attention to detail and made sure to be present during the entire event to address any issues that came up. Our room was fantastic and we truly felt like we were treated in a special way.
We had a fantastic experience working with Cara at the InterContinental Clement Monterey! The Clement was our "home base" for a large local wedding. We had a wonderful block of rooms, and an absolutely perfect Rehearsal Dinner for 60 guests, followed by a dessert & drinks Welcome Event for 200 guests. Then we had a delicious Sunday Brunch to say farewell to 200 Guests. All of the planning seemed effortless thanks to Cara. We were thrilled!
Words can’t express how appreciative we are to Cara and her team at the Intercon for such an amazing wedding. They made the process from the very beginning so enjoyable and memorable. It was a perfect day! The staff, food, hotel and all the accommodations for our wedding were perfect - we didn’t have a single glitch or issue! My husband and I felt totally relaxed and stress free the day of our wedding.
We have decided to spend our anniversaries at the Intercon for years to come! It’s our new favorite spot in Monterey :)
I would highly recommend this venue - you will be so impressed!
I just had my sister bridal shower here and I can not say enough nice things about this place! The service was top notch, the food was amazing, the chief even accommodated vegan and vegetarian guests we had, and the room we had was beautiful! They are very accommodating and even helped me set up decorations! I will absolutely be back and highly recommend you consider Intercontinental The Clement Monterey for your next wedding event or party!
IC was the perfect venue for our wedding earlier this year. The staff went above and beyond!
We had made a trip out to Monterey to look at a different venue nearby (we were given a disappointing 15min tour after driving 2.5 hours), and decided to make the most out of our trip. We searched for other venues in the area and showed up at IC without an appointment, hoping to get some information and take a look around. As we were reading over the wedding packages in the courtyard (the same one we would later get married in), we were approached by Shelly Rodriguez, the catering manager at the time. She had some free time and chatted with us for over 1 hour - going through their wedding packages, giving us a mini tour, and answering all of our questions.
My now husband has always wanted to get married by the water and we were pretty much sold when we saw the amazing view, but the stellar service really made us fall in love with IC.
IC was very accommodating and patient with all of the things we wanted to incorporate in our wedding:
-We went back and forth on the wedding date but never felt pressured/rushed to make a decision and IC drafted up multiple contracts for us
-We were able to use many of the venue's equipment without an additional fee (i.e. heat lamps, fire pits, variety of sofas/cocktail tables inside the ballroom, dance floor, arch)
-We had both our ceremony and reception outdoors to maximize the beautiful weather and view (the staff was able to flip the courtyard space in 1.5hours for 180 guests)
-Highly recommend the finishing touches package: the staff helped us set up many of our DIY items (candy bar, name cards, table numbers, candles, foliage for reception tables, guest book, blankets for guests to stay warm, etc.)
About 3 months before the wedding, IC had some changes in staff and Hayle Leontieff became our new catering manager/onsite coordinator. While it was scary to have someone else take over in the middle of planning, both Shelly and Hayle did everything they could to ensure the transition was smooth. Hayle was new at IC but was vigilant in making sure she got us the answers to our questions in a timely manner. Additionally, everything that had been previously agreed upon with Shelly was honored and we never felt like there were any interruptions in the service and care we received.
There are not enough words to describe how amazing Shelly, Hayle, and the staff at IC are. Everyone made sure we had what we needed to make our wedding day as special and amazing as we had planned it to be and our guests felt welcomed and cared for. Weddings are expensive but we definitely felt like we got our money's worth!
Shelly and her team did absolutely everything to make sure we had a fantastic day, a day we will never forget!
Betty Ellen helped may our day run smooth and stress-free! From the moment we met her and checked out the options at the InterContinental we knew we were in good hands. Her relaxed approach helped us to make the best decisions without feeling pressured into anything. We loved working with her on all the details; from the layout of the room, to figuring out the food, and all the other communication in between. Our decision to have our wedding reception at InterContinental The Clement Monterey had a lot to do with Betty Ellen and her exceptional service!
Our ceremony took place out on the deck and it's nothing less than a breathtaking view!! Nice accommodations that come with your wedding package.
The clearest reasons as to why we picked the Clement for our wedding was the views. The outside patio for the ceremony has a gorgeous view of the Monterey Bay; we even spotted two whales during our rehearsal! The hotel itself--the rooms, restaurant, and amenities--were all exceptional. Being on Cannery Row right next to the Monterey Bay Aquarium provided a fantastic atmosphere for our guests. The ballroom and patio upstairs were perfect for our wedding size (about 80 guests) as it provided an intimate atmosphere inside but the same views outdoors. Unlike some local competitors heat lamps (needed in December!) were free to use. Liz and her staff were always willing to work with us on budgetary concerns both for ourselves in terms of room rentals but also by giving amazing rates for our guests, even expanding our original block of rooms when they had availability.
On the day we couldn’t of asked for more. The bridal and groom’s suites were prepped and ready early and were fantastic spots to get ready and relax. The setups for both the patio and the reception were gorgeous. The food, from the appetizers during cocktail hour to the main dishes of Char and Chicken, were fantastic. Above everything, the service was outstanding. All of the wait staff was extremely helpful, and our banquet captain went above and beyond, even making sure we had time to ourselves to eat and relax during cocktail hour while making sure we both actually ate during the reception itself. This trend continued when we were clearing up, as the staff was open and helpful with all of our needs, and even helping the next day when our families came to pick up remaining items.
We also want to mention Liz Larroque, who was an enormous help at all points in the process. She gave us a wonderful tour, always responded to our emails, on the day was available and clear with anything we needed, and after the event was extremely happy to let us enjoy our honeymoon and not trouble us with billing issues.
We rented the cheapest room we could find at the InterContinental, as the wedding itself was most of our budget. When we arrived I told the man we wanted a king-sized bed (the room we reserved didn't guarantee that), as we were on our honeymoon. He typed into the computer for a minute and said, "We can do that - in face, since it's your honeymoon, why don't we get you an upgrade?"
Of course we didn't complain.
Our room was absolutely perfect. It had a fireplace, a view of the ocean, a balcony, a soaking tub, and a gorgeous standup shower. The hotel itself is just a few doors down from the Monterey Bay Aquarium (literally just step out of the hotel and into the aquarium, didn't even have to cross the street) and right in the middle of the wharf. I can't imagine a better place to stay when visiting Monterey or a better place to enjoy our honeymoon.
The Intercontinental is absolutely breathtaking. You can't deny it's natural beauty and modern chicness. Nicole is amazing to work with, she is there to make your vision happen. I have to say that the rest of the hotel is difficult to work with. The guy in charge of reservations is a nightmare. For our wedding night we slept in a two bed room! Come on, it doesn't have to be a suite but at least give us a Queen bed for our wedding night.
This will be our spot for many years to come! It was beautiful and the staff was wonderful
We booked with Donal at the InterContinental one month before our wedding date after canceling with our previous venue. Not only was the location fantastic the new clean lines and service made this the ultimate wedding venue for us. It is the classiest place to have a wedding and the easiest place to work with. I wish we would have booked with them long before we did. Well worth the price for piece of mind and a beautiful wedding.
I had my wedding here and could not of been happier with how my day went. The staff at The Clement went above and beyond to make my wedding perfect. They helped find local vendors who where just as great as the hotel. Everyone who stayed overnight in the hotel raved about how nice the rooms are and what a beautiful hotel it is. I had my ceremony out on their patio over the water and the reception upstairs with views of the bay.
This hotel is absolutely stunning to begin with. But my wedding here couldn't have been as amazing as it was without their unbelievable banquet manager, Donal Daly. He is absolutely incredible at his job. The service at the hotel is above and beyond, and it was carried 100% over to the wedding and planning process in every way. Thanks Donal!!
