We would like to share our experience with the Kiawah Island Sanctuary Hotel. Our interactions and visit were unfortunately not very pleasant. We struggled to obtain an answer regarding availability despite multiple attempts by both phone and email. According to our wedding planner, this is not a very good sign as it predicts future problems with communication and planning. We were asked to book at least 30 rooms, for at least 2 nights at $690/night on top of the regular venue expenses. None of this was discussed during the initial tour and discussions. Very poor customer service, lack of professionalism, and you get the feeling that they handpick who they want to have their wedding there. On a different note, the tour itself was a little disappointing. The grand lawn is beautiful, however it does not having a direct beach view. The terrace is beautiful but a little small. The ballroom is outdated and not color neutral. We would just like to make other couples aware of our experience so that they know what to expect.
My now husband and I had our wedding there a little over a week ago, and what was absolutely magical was completely ruined when we received the final bill and realized that we were grossly overcharged on our consumption bar.
We chose the Osprey Point Clubhouse and Kiawah (even though we are both from Denver) because my husband grew up going to Kiawah with his family, and since his father passed away a few years ago we wanted it to be in a place where we could feel his presence with us. The Osprey course was also his favorite course so we found it to be perfect.
Morgan, our KIGR contact was organized and professional, always willing and able to assist me in my requests leading up to the big day. Even wen Covid hit she was there to assure me things were still ok and that the normally required minimums were not going to be enforced at this time. Everything went smoothly for the run through, the ceremony, the whole trip really! The staff were polite and everyone kept saying how wonderful and beautiful the whole thing and place was.
However, we received the final invoice last week and upon inspection our consumption bill was very clearly wrong. Having worked in the industry I know that this can happen when dealing with less reputable people, but I purposely had chosen a consumption bar because many in our group don't drink at all including the groom, so paying for the packages would have been throwing money down the drain. When I called out how ridiculous the bill was based on the number of people in attendance the only response I got was sorry but that's what the tally sheets say.
I know that Morgan is obviously limited in what she can do but truthfully this has completely soured what was an incredible and magical day. Now I will only remember the resort by how much we got ripped off. So word of caution to anyone looking to hold their wedding here, if you chose to do the pre-priced bar packages I have no doubt it will be amazing, but if you're trying to be more economical and not pay for those who aren't drinking (or who may only have 1 or 2) and do a consumption bar BE WEARY!! Also, be fully aware that even though shots are illegal to serve, the bartenders purposely circumvent that by serving drinks "neat", aka a shot by another name.
Some family members of ours hosted a Sunday brunch at Kiawah Resort following our wedding and the brunch was very easy to plan and set up through their very helpful team. The food was great and everyone enjoyed themselves. Hosting this Sunday brunch at Kiawah Resort allowed us to get a 10% off room block code which could be used towards hotel rooms, villas, or homes for us and our guests. Us, our entire wedding party, our families, and most of our guests stayed in villas on Kiawah Resort and we had a wonderful experience. We got married on Johns Island so it was the perfect place and having access to the ocean all weekend was great. The only reason I'm giving them 4 stars and not 5 stars is: my husband, myself, and the wedding party were staying in villas all next to each other Thursday-Sunday wedding weekend. However, my husband and I wanted to reserve a hotel room for Saturday night following our wedding and Kiawah Resort absolutely would not budge on their "2 night minimum" requirement at their hotel despite the fact that we were getting married and having all of these people stay at their resort. That rubbed me the wrong way and I still can't believe they wouldn't accommodate us. Other than that, we had a wonderful experience!
My husband and I got married at The Ocean Course Clubhouse in June and it couldn't have been more perfect. The venue and weather were beautiful and the staff was great. We continued to hear over and over from our guests that it was the best wedding they had ever been to. We couldn't have imagined a more amazing place to get married. Thanks, Kiawah!
We had our wedding at Mingo Point on Kiawah Island and it was everything we wanted. From the string lights to the amazing food to the incredibly helpful staff, they helped make our day perfect. For a rustic outdoor wedding, this is perfect.
Superb service, food, and going the extra mile! I was so happy to know that my guests were taken care of so well. Angie at The Sanctuary made sure I was a happy and worry-free bride!
I cannot explain how amazing this hotel/spa was for our honeymoon! We both had never been treated with so much respect at a hotel in our lives! It was the most relaxing 4 days of my life and we both hated to leave! They truly went above and beyond in every area of customer service. It was more relaxing than running around on a boat and the ocean was a step away! Breathtaking views and clean beyond belief! Complementary ocean chairs and umbrellas and they set you up with towels and food and drinks delivered on the beach! Go to The Sanctuary for your honeymoon and you will be so glad you did!
