I had my wedding reception at Le Meridien this past July and my wedding party also stayed at the hotel. We had the most romantic, picture perfect, glamorous wedding of all time! Thanks to Le Meridien staff for making it wonderful every step of the way. Le Meridien staff was so accommodating. From the guest experience of checking in to the hotel, to the delicious food served at my wedding, guests were ‘wowed” and left wanting to re-live it all over again.
Venue: I’ll get to how important location is, but this venue is a hidden gem! I chose to have my wedding reception in the restaurant of the hotel. From the lobby floor, you take a round staircase up two floors, and you have this large open space to work with. The entire area is surrounded by large windows, that brings in beautiful natural lighting. Or as the sun sets, you can close the drapes so that your center pieces will illuminate. I preferred the restaurant over a ball room. It had just had a cozier feel. There is an outside patio area you can also utilize, or it can be left to be a smoking area or for people who want fresh air during the event. Not to mention the beautiful sight and sounds of the city! It was such an intimate venue. I had under 100 guests, but it could fit a lot more people. It was perfect in every way for my black-tie wedding. The pictures of the wedding party as we were getting ready in the hotel also came out beautifully! The hotel rooms were spacious and gave us that San Francisco feel that we were looking for.
Staff: I worked with Mariela Siu, the Catering Sales Manager for Le Meridien and she did everything possible to make the event flawless. Her years of experience in the business shines through as she expects the unexpected and pays attention to every detail. Mariela calmed my nerves and made me rest assure that everything was going to be ok. I felt good about the plans, every step of the way. I’ve worked with many event planners in my time career and have to say Mariela is top notch. She accommodated my special requests and kept open lines of communications for months leading up to my wedding. The day of, Mariela ensured all went smoothly. I am so thankful to Mariela because it’s one thing to have a beautiful venue and its another thing for an event to run smoothly.
Food: Eating good food at a wedding is just a plus. But kudos to Chef Selu because guests were just buzzing about how delicious the food was. From the appetizers to the buffet complete with a beef, chicken and fish option… the sauces, the sauces were delicate, and everything was paired just right. It was a feast! Chef Selu worked with us to make sure that we accommodated our guests taste buds and it truly looked and tasted like a five-star restaurant. Le Meridien did not disappoint and was just the best experience.
I do not say this lightly, but I can honestly say dealing with Le Meridien has been far and away the most difficult aspect of our wedding planning experience. In fact, the hotel has been significantly more difficult than all of our other vendors COMBINED. And it's not just my fiancé and I that feel this way. Both our wedding planner and our event bookers, who both regularly deal with hotel blocks, told us they have never dealt with a hotel quite as inflexible, unaccommodating, and unreasonably difficult as Le Meridien SF has been to work with.
We were told they could extend our rate for extra nights if we needed rooms, going even so far as to make those nights available on our web portal. But when our guests tried to book rooms for extra nights on our site, it said none were available (they were). When guests called to try to inquire about extended stays, they were quoted rates over the phone were often higher than the ones on the website. We were also repeatedly promised our group rate would be adjusted if the normal rates went down, but they refused to actually do so on multiple occasions; always promising to do so in the future, but always refusing when the time actually came. In fact, my fiancé and I needed to stay an extra night, but didn't bother because we thought the hotel might say no. I want you to read that again carefully: we were afraid to give this hotel more business because we thought they would not let us do so.
Throughout our entire experience with Le Meridien, we have been made to feel like we are a burden and a hassle to the hotel management, rather than welcome guests -- guests who, it again bears mentioning, are dropping quite a bit of money on their hotel. I sincerely hope future brides and grooms do themselves a favor and look elsewhere for their wedding room blocks, as Le Meridien San Francisco clearly does not care about their customers.
