We had our wedding here and would highly recommend. The venue was perfect for our 50 guests and Kimberly was extremely flexible and helpful!
What can I say about the Mary Gay House.. It was the perfect location for small intimate wedding. With the current situation with Covid the Mary Gay House was very accommodating with the restrictions and worked with us the best way they could to keep all of our guest safe and comfortable. The grounds are beautifully kept all around. The interior rustic feel truly made us feel as if we were not in the city. If you are looking for a small intimate and friendly locations we would definitely recommend them for any type of event.
I got married at the Mary Gay House earlier this month and had an absolutely wonderful experience! It was a beautiful event (despite the rain) and the staff was so accommodating and kind throughout the planning process. It was a great value and the perfect venue for a charming, southern wedding!
We had about 100 guests and added an outdoor tent for shade and protection from possible rain on the back patio. With a few tables outside and the center doors open, everyone was seated comfortably for dinner and the party felt cohesive. The tent added an extra "room" where the dancing took place and our DJ set up outside. The staff was accommodating to our vendors and pleasant to interact with during the planning phase. We had a wonderful wedding reception.
We chose Mary Gay for our reception because it was across the street from the church where our wedding ceremony was located. It has great historic charm which we loved. It felt intimate because it is a house. It was not as expensive and that was important to us. Overall it was a great location.
A few things-make sure your number of guests is appropriate for the venue because it is not large. We ended up with 99 total people and it was a little tight. We used most of the tables the venue provided for a sit down meal, which took up room. We rented a tent with heaters for the patio so we could have more tables out there, which was great because it ended up raining for our January wedding! The tent was a lot more than renting the venue-I had no idea how expensive it would be, so just keep that in mind for the budget. Also, the dance floor was not very large, so keep that in mind if you plan to dance.
We went off the recommended caterer list and used Step By Step, which was great and less expensive than the others on their pre-approved list! The only issue is that the caterer did not clean up afterwards so we had to take care of that. Just make sure you have all of that planned out if you go off the list.
The coordinator for the venue changed on us 3 times in 6 months. That was tough, as we could not get in touch with one of them for a while right before the wedding and I panicked slightly that things might not work out. Thankfully things did work out! Our last one, Jackie, was great-very helpful, professional, and did several extra nice things for us which she did not have to do.
One of the venue's tables collapsed at the reception. it was embarrassing, but my friends/husband fixed it. We did receive a discount from them as a result, which I appreciated. They followed through on a promise they made.
I can't imaging having our wedding anywhere else! The Mary Gay House was the perfect setting for our Sunday brunch wedding and reception. The space is charming, intimate, and filled with character, and the outdoor amenities are ideal for both setup and unique backdrops for photos. The staff, specifically Missy, are super helpful. This venue is a FANTASTIC value, too - the cherry on top. Would recommend to anyone!
Our wedding at the Mary Gay House was amazing!!! We ended up with a guest count of 138 and were able to comfortable fit everyone for our seated/plated dinner with a combination of tables inside and on the patio. We even had a long estate table on the patio that turned out amazing! We actually did our ceremony at the park next door and that worked out perfectly. The only thing to double check is whether or not you have access to the basement- make sure you are certain of this b/c we had some issues day of until we pulled out our contract and then it was all good. Our guests stayed at the Courtyard Marriott right in downtown Decatur and it was super easy for everyone logistically with MARTA being right there and plenty of lyft/uber's around. Missy is awesome to work with and we absolutely loved getting married at the Mary Gay House!
We had a 100 person wedding at the Mary Gay House, and it was just perfect for us. We had the ceremony outdoors on the brick patio, and used both the inside and outside for the cocktail reception & dinner. It's a beautiful, charming venue, and was exactly what we were looking for.
Elizabeth was a joy to work with also. She was very helpful in answering any questions I had, and was also a huge help in working with some of the vendor set-ups. She definitely made that part much easier on me.
I loved our wedding at the Mary Gay House and would recommend this to anyone looking for a beautiful, yet simply elegant place for an intimate wedding.
The Mary Gay House is a hidden gem in the Decatur area. Not only was the venue very reasonable priced and spacious, Ms. Scott (who was in charge of the venue) was very punctual with communication, appointments, and very flexible with what my wife and I wanted to do for our guests at the venue. If you are looking for a venue for a wedding or even a reception, The Mary Gay House will exceed your standards.
Do you want an elegant but relaxed vibe for your wedding and/or reception? Go with MGH. This was the most low-maintenance and successful part of our wedding. Elizabeth is wonderful to work with, had answers to all our questions, gave us great referrals for other vendors, and just made life so easy in general. The space itself has a really nice flow and doesn't require a ton of accessorizing to make it party-ready. We had a heavy buffet for 125 and it was perfect. Easy parking, great patio, awesome staff... what more could you want?
The Mary Gay house is a lovely place to have a reception. The rules are a bit strict and as it is run by the junior league they are not as 'with it' as a big business wedding place would be (they lost our check and they were not there at the time we agreed upon the day before the wedding to store the champagne!!!) Regardless of the mishaps I think the Mary Gay house is a very elegant place to hold a wedding reception. The manager is very friendly and helpful. All of my guests were impressed by the beauty of this old southern house.
I loved that the space was just the right size and did not dwarf our crowd (we had about 100 people). It was a perfect Georgia location - a historic site with classic decor. The outdoor area was perfect for a May wedding. The flowers were in bloom and the back doors of the house opened up to the brick back area. Kim was the organizer of the site and was great to work with.
