About this vendor
The striking Mill City Museum was built on the banks of the Mississippi River, amid the ruins of the old Washburn A Flour Mill, a National Historic Landmark. The award-winning architectural renovation combines glimpses of the mill's past with modern steel, brick and wood to create a contemporary, industrial space that serves as a beautiful setting for your wedding or rehearsal dinner. With multiple outdoor ceremony options, and indoor spaces that flex to accommodate weddings large or small, Mill City Museum is the stunning setting your wedding day deserves.

Mill City Museum was a wonderful venue. The staff went above and beyond to make sure we had the ceremony in the ruins as planned, despite some rain showers throughout the day. The space flows very well with the dance floor by the stained glass window, which allows folks to stand on the main floor (by the gift shop) and look over the dance floor. The main lobby was also a wonderful reception space and looks so good filled up with the dinner tables. We are extremely happy with how everything turned out, and how beautiful the venue is!
My husband and I had an amazing wedding at Mill City Museum and loved working with the team at D’Amico Catering. I loved the ability to have both an indoor/outdoor wedding. I received multiple compliments about the venue.
Everything was magical - great communication, accommodating and responsive staff - It was such a beautiful place to celebrate our marriage.
Such a beautiful venue. We ended up in our "backup" spot because of the rain and it turned out even more beautiful. They were easy to work with and I highly recommend doing sunset photos on the observation deck. We still have wedding guests tell us how it was the most beautiful wedding they had ever been to!
Gorgeous venue with both indoor and outdoor ceremony options, which was important to us as we very much wanted an outdoor wedding that had a good indoor backup option. Amy M. from D’Amico was a joy to work with. She was responsive to our emails, answered all of our questions, and made sure we were getting what we requested. She did a tour with us when we were first looking at venues then another tour with me and my mom (who was from out of town) later in the planning process to help us bring the wedding vision to life. The food was excellent. We did a buffet set up, and everything was hot the entire time. Our guests were raving about the food at the wedding, and we were still getting comments on how good it was several weeks later. The team even made sure my husband and I had our own plate of the hand-passed appetizers, which was a nice touch! Highly recommend the white cake with raspberry studded white mousse - my husband and I went back for seconds and thirds later during the dancing portion of the night because it was so tasty. One thing to watch which felt a little shady - the food/beverage prices were at one price point when we initially signed our contract (about 15 months pre-wedding), but had gone up by the time we actually paid the final bill and you get stuck with the price increase. 4.5 stars.
Our reception venue canceled 3.5 months before our wedding, and we were incredibly lucky that Mill City was available - it was perfect! It is a beautiful space that is set up perfectly for a large reception, and has a ton of character. Very fun for out-of-town guests to experience this piece of Minneapolis history. D'Amico is the required catering company, and the food was amazing! Guests said it was the best wedding food they had ever had, and I agree :) They were also wonderful about making sure my husband and I were fed, including putting together our own tray of the passed appetizers so we could try them all. We worked with Christie from D'Amico, who was incredibly helpful in pulling our event together on such short notice, and helping accommodate a few last minute requests.
This venue is incredible and beautiful. Working with Amy from D'amico catering throughout the whole process was also great. She is flexible and a great planner. The venue messed up my ceremony seating and had multiple people out to help change the seating within minutes. You won't be disappointed if you can afford to go with this venue. Ask to get photos on the sky deck, we did this little known secret at sundown between the ceremony and reception, and I can't wait to see the photos!
We chose to have our wedding at Mill City because we have lived in Northeast Minneapolis for the past 6 years. So we wanted to keep things local, and we’ve always loved this venue and the surrounding area. From the start, Christy, the main event planner we worked with through the venue, was nothing but helpful. She gave us all the information we needed to evaluate the venue, like alternatives for rainy days, affordable price points and considerations, and things to consider when planning the rest of the wedding around the venue location (e.g., hotels, parking meters for shuttles, etc.). After locking the down the venue, Christy and the catering crew were extremely accommodating to our specific needs for things like the food (we chose to have a vegetarian wedding). Christy was extremely supportive and provided a number of vegetarian options for the appetizers, entrees, and desserts. She even organized a private tasting for us to vet the food we wanted to include. Just prior to the wedding, Christy took extra care to make sure all the details were in place regarding the various vendors working the wedding. She did an excellent job communicating issues to us and making sure we were always informed. For example, as the wedding neared, Christy made sure we absolutely got every penny’s worth out of our inclusions by making sure that we were always above the minimum food and beverage cost. Christy also made sure to attend the rehearsal to make sure any last minute issues were under wraps. Come wedding day, the D’Amico on-site staff did a brilliant job with everything! The set up looked amazing, the service was beyond excellent, and the food got rave reviews (and this is from a group who was very hesitant about the vegetarian food). The ruins are just outright gorgeous in good weather, especially being right on the river walk. Everything moved very smoothly throughout the service and there were absolutely no issues. The food was fresh for every step of the way. And the lavender cake…..this is a MUST if you decide to have your wedding here. Throughout the night, the servers took EXTRA care of both my wife and I, always asking us if we needed anything, providing us with private plated samples of our appetizers, and even remembering our drink requests any time we approached the bar. The staff was incredibly pleasant and did a great job the entire evening. Even the on-site security man was phenomenal. Not only did he keep saving us from getting locked out of places, but he even found a lost house key that fell out of one of our pockets. Overall, we loved everything about the venue, catering, and staff, and we cannot thank them all enough for making it such a great day. If you want a beautiful and unique wedding through and through, then Mill City is the place to go.
I chose Mill City Museum because of it is such a gorgeous and unique venue. I am so incredibly happy with how our ceremony and reception turned out. The staff at D'Amico were all so accommodating from the first time we contacted them through the night of the wedding. We wanted to have the ceremony outside in the ruins courtyard, but it was raining the whole day of the wedding. D'Amico gave us two options on where to have the ceremony. We ended up using the semi-outside corridor just outside the Rail Corridor and it was absolutely perfect. It still had the same outside, unique feel, but none of our guests were wet (except the photographer, who went out in the rain and puddles to get some shots). Our guests were raving about the food, most went for seconds (and even thirds and fourths for some dishes!) and all said that it was such a beautiful venue. Every part of the experience with D'Amico I am so pleased with. It was totally worth it to have such an experienced, caring, and devoted team to work with. Can't say enough good things about D'Amico and Mill City Museum.
We were SO happy to get this venue--had to book a year in advance to get a summer weekend. It is a great space that doesn't need a lot of embellishment. We liked the historical nature of the venue and the location was perfect for guests to stay within walking distance and have other great things to do during their stay. D'Amico is the exclusive caterer for this venue. They are price-y but really beautiful, delicious food. Easy to work with just one event coordinator for both venue and catering. Everything went smoothly. Easy to work with folks.
My husband and I were married at Mill City Museum in August 2014. We worked with Jessica beginning in June 2013. There were many changes in the menu and the wine by D'Amico and, I have to admit, some changes on my part. Jessica was wonderful through them all and did everything she could to give us the wedding of our dreams. The venue, without question, is stunning! The food was delicious and even better than the tasting we had attended months prior to our wedding. The cake was gorgeous and it turned out almost identical to the picture I had given D'Amico. I genuinely appreciated all the recommendations Jessica had given to us - from the food, to the bar, the dj and the florist. Since D'Amico is so organized and such a large company, they really had their act together. This was key to me, as it made my day essentially stress free! To be honest, everything was perfect. The only downfall with D'Amico is that there is a hefty price tag involved. We had 136 guests and we spent approximately $60k. Granted, we could have saved money in different ways; but for a once in a lifetime party and in a venue like Mill City - who wants to? D'Amico knows this (actually, all wedding vendors do), so they hike up the price. With all that being said, it was worth every penny we paid to have such a remarkable day to start off our lives as a married couple. We know we couldn't have had nearly as perfect of a day without D'Amico or Mill City Museum!
My husband and I were recently married at the Mill City Museum and also had our reception there. We LOVE the space, as did our guests. The setting was perfect, the staff (D'Amico Catering) were so great. If you are looking for a unique space, this is it! Not much decoration is needed because the building, exposed brick, ruins, etc. as beautiful all on their own.
The only downfall of the night was employees that work at Mill City kept asking us questions about vendors, items, timelines, etc. It was frustrating as I was told by my contact at D'Amico that the employees at Mill City have nothing to do with the planning process, set-up or execution of the night. This really frustrated me on my wedding day when we were in the middle of pictures. Other than that, the ceremony and reception was flawless. I cannot wait to attend another event here.
We chose Mill City because of the location in Minneapolis and the fact it was so unique we knew that all of our out of town guests would love it. It did not disappoint!
From the courtyard cocktail hour to the scenic backdrop as the sun went down on the deck, it was just an amazing place to have the reception.
D'amico provided the catering as the vendor for the location. They had every choice you could think of. Sky was the limit as long as your budget was. We went through a few revisions until we came up with a menu and event that worked. The food was great according to our guests but we couldn't really remember much as we were out and about greeting and thanking people.
This place will not disappoint. Probably not the cheapest in town and you cannot provide any outside food other than the cake. (no homemade pastries)
We would give Mill City our recommendation to anyone that asked about it.
We decided to use Calhoun Beach Club for both our ceremony and reception. The space is stunning with a modern elegant feel. Working with D'Amico (their exclusive caterer) was a joy and their food is second to none. Beautiful space!!!
My wedding at Mill City Museum was everything I ever dreamed of, including the artistic pictures in the courtyard at night.
my wedding at the mill was perfect. Staff very friendly and helpful during the planning process.
The Mill City Museum is a beautiful place to have your wedding and reception. The courtyard is open-air, framed by the crumbling ruins of an old, burned-out mill, and you can see the Mississippi River from inside the courtyard. It creates a regal and unique setting. The museum staff works well with D'Amico, which is the event planner/caterer who services the museum. I can't say enough about how beautiful this is. (the price range refers to the actual rental price of the space, not the catering price, which is higher)
Mill City Museum is booked through D'Amico so they do the catering if you use the space. I loved D'Amico and they were wonderful to work with and did a great job. Mill City was an absolutely beautiful space and we had a wonderful ceremony and reception. I was told that the space was a more difficult one to work with for a wedding (there is a large upper space for dinner and then a lower portion for a dance floor and bar plus an outdoor deck and exterior rail) but I thought that everything worked out perfectly. It was a little tough for everyone to see the first dance, but tons of people liked being able to take a break on the deck or grab and drink and then go back to dancing. We could not have been happier with our venue choice!!!
The best part about going with D'Amico's was knowing that they had their act together. They were well-connected with our DJ from Instant Request and knew how to put on a good event! I did not feel like I needed to micro-manage for them because they took care of many of the details. Our ceremony and reception both took place at International Market Square and the whole day went beautifully!!!
Our event coordinator was flexible but made sure we were aware of all of the decisions we had to make well ahead of time. She was enthusiastic about making sure the wedding reflected our personalities (in other words, the wedding did not feel generic or cookie-cutter, which was one of our concerns going with a location with an exclusive caterer).
Our main "complaint" would be the cost of the event. There was a $10,000 food/beverage "soft" minimum (soft minimum explained below). This was the total BEFORE taxes and service fees (service fees being 20%). Gratuity was not included in the service fees. Basically, the amount paid ends up being close to 50% higher than the initial "sticker price".
A "soft minimum" means that you do not necessarily have to meet the minimum price (in this case, $10,000). Instead, if you come in below the minimum price, D'Amico will meet you halfway. So, if our food/bev total had been $5,000, we would have had to pay $7,500. If our total had bee $9,000, we would have had to pay $9,500.
Despite the event being costly, I do not regret going with D'Amico for the following reasons:
- They kept my stress levels down because they were on top of everything. The day went smoothly without me having to intervene on any detail.
- There were little 'extras' that they took care of without charge (for example, providing a TV and DVD player for showing a DVD slideshow that my mom had put together for during the cocktail hour).
- The FOOD was amazing and plentiful. People could not stop talking about it.
- The venue was GORGEOUS (also something people still comment on when they see me).
Planned my ceremony and reception at Mill City Museum. They offered an excellent option for back-up if the weather was poor. D'Amico is the only vendor available at Mill City, but they were absolutely excellent to work with. We were set up with a coordinator who worked with us on every detail. I always had alot of questions and our coordinator willingly answered every one. The cost of the food and the location seemed high to me, but I was pleased with the quality. We had so many fantastic reviews from our guests on the food and location. Everyone was in awe - which made us extremely pleased. Must have a good photographer (ours was phenomenal) because the inside of Mill City has tricky lighting. The courtyard is gorgeous. If you aren't having your ceremony there, consider having your cocktails out there! So beautiful.
The Mill City Museum is a unique space in terms of historical value and architectural interest. It is one of a kind!;Absolutely nothing it was perfect!
