I’m thrilled to share our wonderful experience with Mills House for our wedding welcome party! From start to finish, everything was absolutely perfect and made our event truly memorable. We had our welcome party in the courtyard and it was stunning - beautiful fountains, a fireplace and string lights. The perfectly pink hotel provided a beautiful backdrop for our welcome party, and the attention to detail in the décor and setup was perfect.
Hayley was incredibly accommodating and attentive. She went above and beyond to ensure that everything ran smoothly, from the initial planning stages to the execution on the day of the event. Her professionalism and friendly demeanor made the entire experience stress-free and enjoyable.
The food for our welcome party was fantastic - we served passed hors d’oeuvres and so many of our guests raved about them and it kept our large party well fed. We had about 140 guests comfortably fit in the courtyard space.
Overall, Mills provided an exceptional setting for our welcome party, and we couldn’t have been happier with our choice. If you’re looking for a venue that offers both beauty and outstanding service for any special event, I highly recommend Mills House. It truly made our celebration unforgettable!

We worked with Hayley Smith, the event’s manager at The Mills House to host our two events. We held an anniversary party for 138 people at Hibernian Hall (we could have easily had 200+) which the Mills House managed and catered. The next morning we had a 90th birthday brunch for 20 people in a private room at The Mills House. And we had a block of 12 hotel rooms for immediate family at the Mills House. Here is the letter I wrote Hayley. I recommend her highly and using the Mills House.
Hayley,
I am so grateful for all you did to make both events absolutely lovely and just as we had designed together. You made yourself available to us whenever we had need of meeting in person or discussing plans over the phone. Your advice showed your expert experience when we selected the menus, amounts of food, floor plan layout, bar size, seating capacity, and lounge seating- you were correct in all. The ballroom looked underwhelming at Hibernian Hall at 10 am when I dropped off pillows, but as you promised, you had the room cleared, set up and perfectly lovely in every way by afternoon- you managed our vendors beautifully. Your staff was always pleasant, helpful, and present. The whole evening flowed according to our agreed plan without hitches or hiccups. We had so many compliments on the delicious food, both its presentation and excellent taste. There's nothing worse than throwing a lovely party but not having the food match- it all stays in the guests memory.
My mother's 90th birthday brunch at the Mills House was beautiful, exactly as we discussed. My brothers were very pleased, my mother was touched. Tom, the wait-captain, and his assistant were always quietly available, pleasant and attentive. They were wonderful. The brunch buffet was beautifully displayed and delicious. Thank you for helping me accomodate my vegan sister-in-law- everyone enjoyed the entire menu. The Mills House pink mini cupcakes were exactly perfect. My mother delighted in all the pink coordination (of flowers, napkins, cupcakes).
Our extended family was very pleased with each of their rooms and with the ease of using the lobby and cafe or Iron Rose bar for lounging, greeting family and visiting. We enjoyed the pool, as well. The Front Desk staff and the manager Seymour were very accomodating with late night check-ins and finding my 90 year old mother a room near me so I could attend to her.
I hope you know how grateful we are for our lovely stay and events that you managed.
I'm attaching a few photos from the photographer at Hibernian Hall, and one of brunch table.
Thank you!

There are no words to fully describe our FANTASTIC experience at the Mills House. From the initial tour, to the wedding day, Hayley checked all our boxes. Hayley is beyond wonderful, knowledgable, and professional. She made sure that our wedding would be one for the books! Our ceremony was hosted on the pool terrace, with gorgeous views of downtown Charleston. I could not think of a more romantic setting than the Mills House Hotel. Thank you Mills House for hosting the Jensen wedding... we cannot wait to come back!!

We had the most wonderful time. We haven’t talked to anyone that attended our party that hasn’t commented on either how beautiful the Mills House was, how amazing the food was, or how attentive the staff was. Our friends and family only witnessed what happened during our party, what they didn’t know was everything that happened prior to our event. Haley was amazing. She had great ideas, was a creative problem solver and was always at least 2 steps ahead of us. She always had time for us and offered suggestions when asked. She had our backs and always with a smile on her face. Her only concern the day of our event was for us to enjoy. There was the same level of commitment from all the staff. Chef Curtis met with us and took the time to discuss even the finest details. He was committed to exceeding our expectations. We had many guest with special dietary needs. Curtis made sure that everyone was able to enjoy delicious food. I’m so glad we selected the Mills House for our celebration. Our guests were pampered from the moment they arrived until they left.
So were we!

I definitely recommend the Mills house to anyone considering a wedding there. The renovations to the rooms and lobby are beautiful. The food was delicious and all the staff were very attentive. Mary was also very thoughtful in following up to make sure we had a great time. Thank you again for making it a wonderful night!

The Mills House was the absolute perfect spot for our ceremony & wedding reception. The courtyard is stunning and the Barbados room had the ideal flow for the wedding we wanted. Katelin Hancock at The Mills House was our point person and she was wonderful to work with. Always prompt when we were corresponding and was beyond helpful with every little last detail. Our wedding was truly a dream thanks to our amazing vendors and venue!

Mills House was picture perfect from start to finish! Katelin Hancock, the "Wedding Sales Coordinator" for the Mills House was a dream to work with. She replied to emails promptly, answered ALL detailed questions (including the silly ones), and had a solution for any hiccup that may have arrived. It rained on the day of our wedding she had the perfect solution for an indoor cocktail hour. I cannot say enough good things about her!
Additionally the venue had delicious food, outstanding bar and wait service, and the grounds were pristine. The lobby and Barbadoes Room were just stunning and perfect backdrop for a classic Charleston wedding!

The Mills House did a spectacular job making our wedding weekend a total joy and success. They were very easy to work with from the start in 2019, through a rescheduling due to COVID, and finally to the wedding in April of 2022. We hosted a welcome party, wedding/reception, and Sunday brunch. The food, service, and ambiance were all excellent. Kaitlyn assured us that once the planning was done, all we needed to do was show up and she was totally correct!

Everything about our wedding was perfect thanks to the entire staff at The Mills House, specifically Katelin Hancock! We are from Philadelphia and booked and planned our entire wedding without seeing the Hotel. Katelin was so accommodating with FaceTime appointments and helped to make sure we were comfortable booking. Her communication was seamless, friendly and prompt. I trusted her immensely due to how well she communicated with us. Planning the wedding was a breeze. While the hotel has great wedding packages to offer, they were always flexible if we had questions whether it be around hors d'oeuvres selections, food allergies, beverage selections, floor plans, etc. I always felt true attention and care to make sure we had the wedding we envisioned. The Hotel is stunningly beautiful, the rooms are clean and updated (a bit small but that's okay), the front desk was SO friendly to all of our guests, the restaurant and bar staff were kind and attentive, housekeeping staff was fast and very friendly, and the location in downtown Charleston is perfect. The reservations team was extremely helpful with our room block details, and Danielle and Patty were always quick to respond. Our wedding was for only about 55 guests, so our ceremony was on the Meeting Street Terrace, Cocktail Hour in Queen Street Gallery and reception in the Signer's Ballroom. All spaces were well maintained and beautiful. The banquet staff was extremely friendly and the food was fantastic. The server who took care of us at the sweetheart table was so polite and professional and made sure we always had what we needed before we asked. The valet/bellmen were also so helpful and patient as my husband and I had a lot to carry in when we first arrived. I can't say enough positive things about The Mills House and especially Katelin, along with the rest of the staff. I highly recommend hosting your wedding here!

We were lucky enough to have our planner suggest Mills House for my granddaughter's Bat Mitzvah party. It was amazing! Best party ever! The party rooms we used were perfect for our guests. The staff was helpful and very professional. They even helped me find my shoes after dancing! The food was spectacular. It is a beautiful venue and so convenient to everything in Charleston. I had to have a last minute dinner for surprise out-of-town guests and they immediately came to my rescue in the Barbados Room. No one knew this was thrown together in 2 days! It was flawless. Our Mills House coordinator was always available for any questions and she was knowledgeable, professional and fun! She took the stress out of this big event. I didn't worry about anything. The guest rooms were lovely. I have another granddaughter having a Bat Mitzvah and we will absolutely use the Mills House.

Absolutely wonderful! There are not enough words to express how amazing Alicia and her team was to us during our wedding planning process. They were a dream to work with! Every moment of our wedding day was perfect! Highly highly recommend booking the Mills House for any event. We had so many hurdles during our planning process with postponing and COVID restrictions and Alicia always made me feel taken care of and covered 1000%. She is AMAZING!! The location and convenience to everything made our whole wedding weekend seamless. All of our guests had not stopped raving about The Mills House! The team that worked during our wedding was so wonderful and friendly. We had a blast with them all night! I seriously can’t say enough good things about The Mills House venue and team. Thank you for making our wedding feel like a magical dream. You all are THE BEST!!

Alicia was amazing to work with. As a bride who had to reschedule her wedding two weeks prior to it happening due to COVID, I had no fear that The Mills House would be professional, dependable, and empathetic. I truly feel Alicia cares about her brides and grooms, and does everything in her power to make the day as special as possible. Many brides and grooms say they are so happy to have the wedding over. However with how smooth and perfect the mills house made our day, my husband and I wish we could do it all again! The venue is a perfect reminder of the Charleston charm so many of us love, and is a beautiful backdrop for a wedding.

I'll be the first to admit that I work in the hospitality industry so I'm a total snob about hotels, and hotel weddings, but Alicia and her team knocked it out of the park! From the get-go, Alicia was on hand to answer my (many, many) questions, and work with me to establish a vision for our perfect day. She consistently went above and beyond in making sure that everything came out just the way we wanted it.
I didn't actually get to try the food at the wedding (oops), but our tasting was phenomenal and now even two weeks later people are telling me how good the food was and how gorgeous the venue was! We would do it all over again!

Planning a destination wedding can often create additional set of challenges. When our daughter asked to have her wedding in Charleston (we’re in Florida) it added more than just the seven-hour difference.
As an event planner, I knew that having the ceremony and the reception in one location would make planning easier and make it easier for our guests who all were coming from out of town. I also knew that the individual cost to rent tables, chairs, linens, centerpieces, decor, etc. could add up and be a logistical set up and clean up nightmare. It is often more economical to select a place that provides all of these things in the rental fee.
We spent over a month doing online research for a venue. By the time we arrived in Charleston, we had narrowed it down to five places. However, after meeting with Alicia Villegas at The Mills House, we cancelled our last two appointments.
Alicia and her team are easy to work with and are true professionals. They understand the emotions that can get in the way of trying to make practical decisions. Alicia was open to ideas we had that were outside of their standard menus and set ups; and after getting to know the bride and groom better, she even made a few suggestions that were perfect, unique touches. They helped us not over think things which resulted in a smooth, stress-free wedding weekend.
The Mills House, itself, offers things no other venue in the area could offer. Their Terrace provided a “southern city view” for the ceremony and thanks to Rachel in the Reservation Department, some in the wedding party were able to secure rooms on the same level which helped during rehearsal and the ceremony. The Courtyard was a beautiful place to hold the Cocktail Hour and required no additional cost to decorate. But no place in Charleston has the iconic “pink” brick, split-staircases and gorgeous balconies that made breathtaking photos. Our photographer, who is from Florida, said it was a “creative dream” to take photos throughout The Mills House.
Alicia and her staff were amazing. But it didn’t stop there. Great customer service is found throughout The Mills House whether it’s from the front desk clerks, bartenders in the Best Friend Lodge, the catering team, and the Valet Attendants. I highly recommend The Mills House for any event you might be planning in the Charleston area.

We had our wedding at the Mills House on December 14th, 2019. We began on Friday (12/13) with a wonderful welcome party that had an open bar and hors d'oeuvres in the Planter's Suite. The day of our wedding included a ceremony on the Pool Terrace followed by beautiful photos in the hotel (while our guests enjoyed cocktail hour in the Queen Street Gallery) and an excellent reception in the Ball Room. Finally, we had a parting brunch on Sunday morning in the Planter's Suite which included a great and delicious spread of southern breakfast options (chicken and waffles included, of course).
The entire experience went off without a hitch. Our guests (about 60) could not stop telling us how much fun they had and how amazing the food was. Several of our guests joked that they never got to finish a meal because there was always another plate or dessert coming their way (get the crepe station).
We are still waiting for our final photos, but even the amateur images taken by our family were stunning. We would definitely recommend this venue for your big day.

Previous reviews say it all! The entire Mills House staff exudes hospitality. Front door, front desk, concierge, waitstaff, housekeeping, bellmen, you name it. Both my wife and I have been in the hospitality industry for years and could not have been more pleased with the way not only we, but our guests, and everyone else visiting the hotel (from what we could see), were treated.
The ceremony space on the roof was gorgeous... not to mention a perfect, cloudless, day in October. Cocktail hour in the courtyard followed by reception in the Barbadoes Room (shout out to Reggie for taking amazing care of us during the reception!) could not have been a more perfect fit for our guests.
Final thing needing mentioning... is Alicia. Albeit a great location in town, and a fantastic venue to hold a wedding, Alicia is THE reason we chose the Mills House. Her genuine kindness, professionalism, and just plain excitement for us getting married was unrivaled by ANY of the other venues we sought as potential sites to host our big day.
Alicia - from Britt and I, thank you again - a million times over - for everything you did for us. We cannot wait to stop back in during our next visit(s) to Charleston!

The Mills House is the perfect place to show your out of town guests the real Charleston Charm. The sales team was very helpful and gave me a very user friendly portal so I could check my room block and have full visibility at no extra fee. We did welcome bags for guests staying and they helped deliver everything for a small fee. The smell and cleanliness was also very key. Overall a very accommodating hotel with the PERFECT location...being able to have guests in town and everyone could walk to and from places. Not to mention the marriage courthouse is literally next door!

We had our Rehearsal Dinner at the Mills House Hotel and everything about the evening was absolutely fabulous. Working with the events planner was a dream. She was helpful, kind, friendly, returned texts, emails and phone calls quickly. The staff performed efficiently and professionally while maintaining a friendly, happy atmosphere. The ball room and gallery where beautiful and just recently renovated. The price was very reasonable for the beauty, history, quality of meal and professionalism of staff. We are 'over the moon' about our sons Rehearsal Dinner evening and I would give my highest recommendation for the Mills House Hotel. What a great night!!!!-Thank you Mills House.

We rented the Pool Deck, Courtyard, and Barbados Room for our ceremony and reception. Alicia and her staff have been amazing since the day we booked them over a year ago. Every email with questions or requests were promptly replied to. They have been so accommodating and made sure everything went perfect on our wedding day. We cannot recommend them enough! Our guests are still raving about the food and they absolutely loved the gorgeous courtyard! Also, the Mills House is in historic downtown which was perfect for many out of town guests that had never been to Charleston. We really couldn't have imagined having our wedding anywhere else!

We were lucky enough to be able to have a destination wedding in Charleston although as you know that do3s require a lot of extra planning. We came down to take a look at several perspective locations last year after spending extensive time online researching. From the moment we got to The Mills House it just felt right. Alecia, who is in charge of their events, made us feel special and helped us to ensure everything was perfect. We were supposed to have our reception out on the terrace but thanks to Hurricane Michael that didn’t work out. It was disappointing but the staff did an excellent job transitioning last minute to our backup plan and turned one of their meeting rooms into a warm and intimate dining space. We did a tasting menu with a total of five courses and the chef was super accommodating with the suggestions we made. Thank you so much to everyone at The Mills House for making my fairytale wedding a reality.

We had our ceremony in the courtyard which was gorgeous and the reception in the Barbadoes Room. The fountain and the flowers in the courtyard provided natural ceremony decor so we didn't have to add much. Alicia and the Mills House staff were very easy and kind to work with. One small issue was that we had strangers (guests of the hotel) try and take a couple of our cupcakes during the reception, but luckily a friend stopped them. But we would absolutely recommend The Mills House to anyone!

Having our reception at the Mills House was one of the best choices we made! Alicia and the rest of the staff were so incredible to work with and so accommodating to our requests. We got married in April and had our reception in the Barbados Room and Courtyard. Our guests were raving about the venue! We especially loved having the open courtyard with the beautiful fountain under the twinkly lights at night. We were able to have a couple fire pits and a cigar bar outside and everyone loved it!! We planned our destination wedding from a few states away and we were so thankful for the Mills House. It was already such a beautiful historic venue it did not require a ton of decorating. Plus the food was absolutely amazing. Our guests were all about the shrimp and grits!! At the end of the night when we got up to our room, we were pleasantly surprised to find boxes of all the food served at the wedding! We did not get to eat at the reception from visiting with all the guests and just overall having the best time ever, we were so thrilled to sit and enjoy some! Thank you to the staff at the Mills House and especially to Alicia Villegas for the outstanding hospitality. You were truly a joy to work with!! We look forward to coming back and saying hello!

Our reception was in the Barbadoes room and the Courtyard in April. We got so many compliments on the venue and the tropical feel. It was perfect for us and Alicia did a great job communicating with us about all the details. My wedding and reception were both at The Mills House and it was beautiful! Gina Della Pella and Jenny Kress handled my wedding event and they both did an incredible job going above and beyond! They answered every question I had promptly and helped my vision come to life. My ceremony was outside in the courtyard and my reception was on the 2nd floor in the Planter's Suite. The Mills House staff was friendly, polite and helpful during planning, and throughout my entire event. Not only was everyone great but their catering was in house and all the food was amazing! I highly recommend having your wedding at The Mills House!

We chose The Mills House as our wedding reception venue because of it's southern charm and it was perfect! Also, they include so much within their wedding packages! (i.e., chairs, linens, glassware, silverware, votives, dance floor, room block, etc.) We worked closely with Alicia as we planned our big day. She was a pleasure to work with from the beginning. She was prompt to respond to emails, answer questions, and everything in between. The rest of The Mills House staff was also phenomenal. From the front desk, to room service, to the wedding reception staff, everyone was an absolute joy! Also, our wedding reception food was delicious! We highly recommend The Mills House to anyone! Thank you for helping to make our wedding day and weekend one we will never forget!

The Mills House was a wonderful venue for our June wedding. A great benefit to the hotel is that so much is included with their hospitality package: food, beverage, seating, linens and tableware. I only had to bring in the DJ, ceremony musician, flowers and photographer ... as well as the special chairs and table overlays that I wanted to customize for my wedding. I worked with Melissa Joseph and Casey Walters and found them both to be responsive and organized ... very important as I was coordinating the wedding from New York City! Our one trip prior to the wedding weekend was for the tasting, so be warned, you'll gain five pounds as the food is amazing! There is nothing we would do differently and would highly recommend this venue.

Our wedding reception was at the Mills House in the Signers Ballroom, and we originally had Sara as our assigned wedding coordinator. Sara was very sweet, but it was hard to get in touch with her and get follow-ups via email, since I was an out-of-town bride, planning from Los Angeles. Later on, as Sara went on maternity leave, we got Melissa Joseph and Melissa and Gabby were fantastic to work with. Of course, I had a ton of questions leading up to the big day and especially the 2 weeks before my wedding, and Melissa was extremely accommodating and quick to provide answers to my many questions. She and Gabby really were amazing. The only disappointment my husband and I had was that we nixed doing a large wedding cake because we were providing a dessert course and a Viennese display, both from the Mills House. The Viennese display was supposed to have 3 different types of tarts, as well as French pastries (my favorite!). I ever clarified what type of pastries, so as to not have expectations that would not be met on my wedding day, but we went over everything and was told there would be macarons (again, my favorite!), and various pastries, so I felt fine with not having a traditional, large wedding cake. I thought it would be fun for our guests to have a variety. To my shock, because the dessert was set-up in a smaller, adjoining room, there were only 4 cake stands with the mini tarts and NONE of the French pastries we discussed. There was such little dessert on display that I was embarrassed! Yes, we discussed using some of the cake stands they had, but I did not expect it to be so poorly displayed and it did not meet the expectation for the price we paid.
That aside, our Banquet Captain, Reggie, and his team that night were fantastic. They made sure my husband and I had everything we needed and checked on us to make sure we were happy and doing well as the night unfolded. They were truly fantastic and the Mills House is lucky to have them.
Also, we were supposed to have Cocktail Hour on the terrace, near the pool, but the weather was bad and we ended up having it in the Queen Street Gallery. I was told by my sisters that it was a little crowded for the guests, but overall not bad.
One thing to note brides, is that some of our food was different from our tasting in May, than what was provided on the actual day. The sliders were much smaller, as were the chicken tenders we had for late night snacks. I'm not sure why it changed, but it did.
Also, we did Welcome Bags for our guests and we left them on a large table, and one of our guests that we know of, did not get his. We labeled each bag with names, so people knew which was theirs and I found it disappointing that another guest would take a bag. I actually asked the Mills House about that and whether it would be a problem, but I was told it would not be. Also, one of the signs they made for our wedding had my maiden name misspelled. A small, but embarrassing mistake for them to make.
Additionally, I did A LOT of research to find the perfect venue that had a classy atmosphere, but that was comfortable for our out-of-town guests, and the Mills House, with its renovations, hit it out of the park for me. It had the best location downtown by far, and the rooms being updated felt so nice, clean, and new. Beautiful venue, and excellent service overall.

I had my wedding at The Mills House in November. Unfortunately, the weather was unseasonally cool but everything turned out beautifully. Melissa Joseph's was my assigned coordinator and she was fantastic! I planned the entire wedding by email and phone from Chicago. She was always available by email and phone and would answer any questions I had. I didn't get to try the food and went off of recommendations from her. My food was great! My guests still talk about how good our food was at our wedding. They were even able to accomodate a dietary restriction without any issues last minute. My parents still comment how accomodating The Mills House was in general. We could not have been happier! Melissa helped make my wedding perfect. Thank you The Mill House and Melissa!

We got married in the courtyard at the Mills House and had our reception in the courtyard and Barbadoes Room. We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful venue - everything was beautiful, and the indoor/outdoor setting was exactly what we hoped it would be. The food was absolutely fantastic - all of our guests commented on how delicious everything was. My favorites were the shrimp and grits and crab cake griddle! We had great service for passed hors d'oeuvres, and the bartenders and food station attendants were wonderful. Overall it was a great evening, but there were a few small details that were overlooked in terms of planning and service. At times it took our contact at the Mills House a few days or more to respond to emails, and details discussed at the rehearsal were not carried out the day of the wedding (and had to be corrected by the bride prior to the ceremony). We would definitely choose the Mills House again because it is such a wonderful venue in a great location, but there are some improvements that can be made with the service. There was a mixup with some of our guests' hotel rooms (including the bride's mother's room), and the managers did little to remedy the situation at the time of check-in. For the amount of money we spent on the wedding weekend, we would have expected a bit more service and concern, as we had 35 rooms reserved and were bringing the hotel a lot of revenue that weekend.

The Mills House staff and the Catering coordinator were outstanding. The hotel staff was incredibly friendly and professional. Everything went off without a hitch thanks to a wonderful catering coordinator and staff. The food was delicious and the catering office was very accommodating to special requests.
