Oak Pointe saved my wedding day. Originally, I had a different venue picked out, but they cancelled a month before our wedding day. Oak Pointe worked with my husband and I swiftly and were able to coordinate everything in one week. My 4/3/21 pandemic wedding turned out amazing. Food was great and many complements from my guest about the venue and staff. Absolutely gorgeous venue.
Great sales person - HORRIBLE execution. Stress, poor staff quality, horrible portion sizes, does not follow through.
My husband, mom, MOG and I all walked into Oak Pointe and fell in love with the beautiful lake scene and reception room. Both the former and current event managers were (and are) wonderful. Kayla A. truly did a phenomenal job of working with us to ensure we FELT taken care of. I would 100% work with her for any event. Kayla was unable to be at our event and maybe it would've gone differently if she had.
HOWEVER - the execution of the event was embarrassing and I would not waste money here again.
Upon arriving the the reception - no one was there to greet the wedding party to take us out for pictures and the staff was still setting up the room...15 minutes before the reception was supposed to start. To our understanding - we were supposed to have the space to ourselves. The hall looked crowded like they were cleaning up from an event that ran late and scrambling to get our wedding set up.
The signs for guests to find the reception all had my maiden name, and not my new husband's last name. When I had asked the team to change this they were standoffish and rude. A small detail that would've been overlooked - had there not be many other things going wrong.
We had continuous emails indicating we wanted specific beer at the reception, and were assured they were standard and we didn't need to worry about paying to have them there. When we got to the bar, they didn't have either of the two beers. Yet another small detail.
As dinner started, the power went out. The power going out has nothing to do with this poor review. The staff did everything they could to work through what they could control. With the outage the staff seemed to come to life, for a short period of time.
Dinner comes out. We payed for an upgrade to get filets. When the filets come out it was noted by many that the serving size provided was ~2-3 oz. No where was it communicated that we would receive petite filets and honestly the steaks should have been 4 oz as a petite filet regardless.
Thankfully, after dinner - the power comes back on.
We ordered late night pizzas, at 9pm we were informed we wouldn't be getting the pizzas because they had been "left out" and gone bad. Funny that Toby, the manager at the time, was also eating a slice of pizza behind the bar.
There were plates and glasses left out for hours. Just sitting on the tables with no staff in site to clean anything up. It looked like a frat house. Glasses, cans, bottles, plates EVERYWHERE. Our guests were doing their best to place glasses on tables, at the bar to make it as easy as possible.
I can honestly say my wedding day was a blast - but it was not due to Oak Pointe. It was due to great people who came to celebrate us and a great DJ getting the night going.
Again - Oak Pointe assured us it would be a smooth night. Never during a conversation with Kayla did I feel we would have any issues. Kayla unfortunately couldn't be there to oversee the event and maybe it would've been better if she had.
I would have changed our location in a heart beat to avoid the stress, the negligence of the details promised to us, better food portions and to not have to work with Toby, the backup manager who was supposed to take care of us on our day.
IF you want stress, failed promised details, poor staff quality, and to overspend on horrible portion sizes then go to Oak Pointe.
