I am very disappointed with the experience we had with Pere Marquette Lodge. The venue itself is beautiful, the food was good, and my wedding day was fun. Not only did they charge my guest multiple times, but it also took days to get this problem resolved. They were allowing guest from their hotel to get food and drinks from the bar/ food that we paid for. After spending thousands of dollars to have our wedding, I still have not gotten any answers. The list goes on, but I’ll stop there. It is a beautiful place to get married but be warned that you will have to deal with frustrating things after you get married.
I’m so glad we got married at Pere Marquette! The lodge is beautiful and served as a gorgeous setting for the ceremony and reception. The food was phenomenal and the catering staff were kind and very good at their jobs. Our guests made numerous comments at how cool the venue was. The negative with the venue stem from its popularity! When we booked the lodge we were told we might not be able to get in to decorate the room until midday on our wedding day. This was dependent upon whether there was another function the night before and we would find out for sure what time we could decorate 30 days out. This is absolutely reasonable, however, it did mean that we ran the risk of putting up lights and setting centerpieces a few hours before the ceremony. We wound up hiring a coordinator who could set decor and handle things for us so we could take photos and get ready without stress. If we hadn’t had the funds or ability to do this, it might have made for a more chaotic day.
Overall, the experience was pretty good. Nothing in the spectacular one way, or the other. Definitely a few bumps along the way but I'm sure that is pretty normal. I will say Michelle was great to work with. Her email response was good, she was always willing to work with us, and try to get us all of the things we wanted. The management didn't seem interested in working well with us though.
When we first booked, we were told a few things, that then changed down the road. We were told we could do a tasting of the food - after we booked we were told they don't do that. I had to majorly insist with management that we try food before I serve 150 guests. We were told we could get refunded on any keg not opened - turns out we got refunded for the keg, but not for gratuities that we paid.
Booking rooms for the room block is way outdated. I had guests not receiving the discount since they booked online. We had over 30 rooms booked for our block. Everyone that called did get the $10 discount easily - it was just the ones doing so online.
The lodge was accommodating with using the great room extra hours, so that was a huge plus. We used it after the reception and also the next morning. The great room and fireplace are gorgeous and we loved being able to spend more time there.
They do charge for extra things that kept popping up here and there, but again I'm sure that's normal.
It is a really good deal for your money, especially when comparing to other venues around the area. The lodge, rooms, and scenery are beautiful and made for a great weekend getaway not too far from home.
Our Spring wedding was gorgeous here! The river road had flooding, which cause our guests to need to take an alternate flood route, but even so everyone made it! And there were signs along the flood route directing guests to the lodge. Colleen (our coordinator), was especially helpful when our bakery delivered our cake damaged, contacting the bakery herself to try and resolve the issue. Over half of our guests were from out of town, so having lodging available to them was absolute perfection.
Beyond disappointing. Find another venue that will value your business.
Pere Marquette was the perfect setting for our wedding. My husband grew up going to the lodge with his family. After we got engaged we went hiking there and I knew this was the place I wanted to get married. It is unique and is such a beautiful backdrop for all of our pictures. Our friends and family could not stop talking about how beautiful the place was and they loved that their little ones could play with the giant chess game in the lobby in the down time between the ceremony and dinner. I could not have asked for a more perfect and picturesque location than Pere Marquette!
The best hidden gem around! Both sets of our family had to travel no matter where our wedding was. So this was a great choice for us. A place where everyone could be together. We wanted our wedding to be an expierence, not just an event and over. What we loved about this place is that it felt like a weekend getaway for everyone. We loved that all our family and friends really got to know each other; either through hiking, exploring Grafton or the winery on location. Having the ceremony and reception all in one place was perfect. Cassidy and all the staff went above and beyond. They asked what else they could do and the made the process easy; no matter how many questions I had. We have already reserved a room for our one year anniversary and cannot wait to go back year after year.
My husband and I got married at Pere Marquette in 2016, and we loved it.
The staff was helpful and knowledgeable, and readily available for any questions I had. It was awesome to be able to have our ceremony & reception at a lodge - we were able to use the cabins to get ready and all of our guests were able to stay the night in the cabins and the lodge. Everyone was glad not to have to drive anywhere! It was such a weight off of our shoulders to have food and drink provided on-site as well.
Beautiful space on its own, didn’t take much decorating at all. Not too expensive, either! I definitely suggest it to anyone planning their wedding!
Our lodge wedding was magical! The food was wonderful, the space comfortable but full of whimsy. As our wedding was on a Sunday, we got to spend extra time with our guests and wedding party - in impromptu main room sing-alongs, walks on the stone patio overlooking the river, and overnight stays in the rooms. The pricing was completely clear, which was a refreshing change from the other venues we considered. The lodge staff was helpful and responsive. The policies about booking block rooms are a bit unusual but I highly recommend the lodge, especially if you have a vintage, DIY aesthetic. It was so laid back and lovely. It was incredible and the lodge will be a fixture in our lives to come, each anniversary.
Be careful when booking a wedding here. Be sure to get all the schedule and room information before giving a deposit. We worked with Cassidy to book the lodge for our wedding. We spent a lot of time discussing a date but hadn't yet decided on a specific date. Cassidy had us go ahead and sign the contract and put down the deposit and she said we can figure out the "details" later. We went back and fourth over email trying to figure out dates that were available. I came to notice that if the date was available there were not enough rooms for my guests to stay in that evening. Or if they had plenty of rooms for our guests we would have to share the space with a conference or brunch of some sort that was scheduled for the same day already. So we just went down the calendar. Not one date was fitting in the 2017 year. So we just planned our wedding elsewhere. But don't think for a second that Cassidy was willing to give our deposit back after booking another wedding over ours. Which we found out upon calling to make plans to accommodate our guests. And it isn't a transferable deposit for a stay in the lodge either. So I would just encourage others to have all the 'details' figured out before trusting her. After we figured out all of our details we got married elsewhere that would accommodate us and our guests.
The staff at Pere Marquette lodge went above and beyond to make my wedding perfect. Their efforts included picking up gumballs and sticks from the lawn, lighting all of the candles on the tables, passing out welcome boxes to guests checking in, and letting us set up for the reception a day early. Cassidy ensured everything went smoothly and that everything got done. The natural setting and large trees was perfect for the ceremony and even had plenty of shade in the late afternoon. The beautiful old lodge looks great in the background of our pictures too! Having the reception in the Great Room was fantastic, and so worth the extra effort it took to hang globe lights (otherwise it is pretty dark in there), cover the large green signs, and decorate the pillars. The standard chair covers we purchased worked fine on the banquet chairs once they were tied, despite the round back of the chairs. I would have never thought I would serve fried chicken at my wedding, but as soon as I tried it at the restaurant my mind was changed. SO glad we picked it. The night of, the fried chicken served on the buffet line was outstanding (and I was the last one to eat! It was still hot, crispy, and delicious). We have had compliments from even the pickiest guests and fanciest food eaters. We also loved the spinach and strawberry salad! I would highly recommend both. I would highly recommend Pere Marquette Lodge and Banquet Center for any event. It was so much fun to have all our friends and family staying on the property, gave us more time with them and helped keep the dancing and drinking go all night! We did a sparkler exit and had the bonfire pit set up afterwards, which was a huge hit. THANK YOU to everyone at Pere Marquette for making our wedding day everything I could have imagined!
Our wedding was in October 2016, and we and our guests loved this venue. It was so beautiful and the rules are very flexible. For example, we asked at 9:30pm if we could extend our DJ until 11pm, and they said yes! (despite a previously contracted end time of 10pm) Pros: guests were able to stay in the venue, setting was beautiful, no fee for hall/ chair rental, Arielle (Lodge staff) provided assistance with planning, tons of options and flexibility with drinks and food, delicious fried chicken! Cons: it is a very popular location in the fall so books up 1-2 years in advance, you can't do a taste test of the food, and you share the space with other Lodge visitors. However, none of these cons were enough to give it anything less than 5 stars! Arielle Tewell, the Lodge event coordinator, was so patient and helpful with all of our questions. Thanks to Arielle and Lodge staff! It was a wonderful evening!
I just had my wedding here on June 3rd and was beyond pleased with everything! It is such a beautiful lodge and the staff was extremely helpful. We went with the fried chicken dinner for our buffet and it was soo good everyone loved it! The banquet staff was awesome..I left my seat to talk to our guests during dinner and the staff made sure not to take my plate without asking me first because they wanted to make sure I got to eat enough food. I planned the wedding from out of state and our coordinator was easy to communicate with and very helpful during the process. I was a little disappointed that I didn't see her on our wedding day but everything went smoothly. There was a little hiccup with the bar but it was resolved quickly. Overall, I would absolutely recommend having your wedding here! It was everything that I dreamed of having!
It was a beautiful space and had good food.
I had an absolute fairytale dream wedding at Pere Marquette. Everything, in my eyes, went perfectly. The only problem was the forgotten bread rolls, besides that everything was perfect!!
I was disappointed with the experience I had with Pere Marquette. The venue itself is beautiful, the food was good and my wedding day was so much fun. The problem was dealing with their unfriendly, unhelpful staff for 7 months leading up to the wedding. Most of my guests were coming from out of town and the “wedding planner” was aware of that. However, she failed to mention that their hotel was almost booked. By the time we went to block rooms (5 months away from the wedding) there were only 13 rooms left. Not nearly enough for my family and friends. I was rarely able to get her on the phone and she took days to reply to emails. They didn’t have enough table skirts for their tables so we had to rent some. They couldn’t tell us what time we could decorate the reception room until 1 week out because they were unsure if it would be booked. By that time we had to have the timeline set and just hope that we could get in and decorate the day before. The bartender was rude and unfriendly even though my guests were tipping and respectful. The wedding planner was there the day of but instead of telling me “congratulations” or asking if we needed anything she just stood around and looked to be judging my guests. My ceremony was outside and they wouldn’t allow our guests to have water unless we bought it from them at an outrageous price. After spending thousands of dollars to have our wedding there they gave me and my new husband an old rundown room instead of one of their remodeled rooms for our honeymoon suite. The list goes on but I’ll stop there. It is a beautiful place to get married but be warned that you will have months of frustrating interactions with their staff leading up to your special day
We loved the lodge for many reasons. We were able to have an all-in-one 'destination' wedding close to home. Our guests loved the location and the fact that we were able to spend the whole weekend together. But the best part was the price...they were willing to work within our budget and we had a plated reception meal for much, much less than we would have paid at any other 'wedding' venue.
Erin Pea, the catering director, was a pleasure to deal with. Everything went smooth. The staff recieved many compliments from our guests. The rooms are quite large and can accomodate up to 250 guests. Loved it!!
We had a few bumps along the road while planning our wedding at Pere Marquette but that would happen with any location. The only complaints we had were that we had to "argue" to get 150 chairs for our ceremony in the great room and that the front desk staff do not all understand the idea of a block of rooms.
everything we seemed to ask, they could do (e.g., decorations, layout, reserving every hotel room for our guests in advance). we wanted local, organic food sourced and local beers/wines too, all of which they were able to do with some legwork. the food and beverage minimum was relatively low, and we blew through it quickly. the only complaint - we got married on the lawn; they charged a $200 fee but don't help with set-up or offer chairs, sound systems, etc. the catering staff are otherwise wonderful!
