We were originally very pleased to book our 14-guest wedding with the O.Henry Hotel (managed by the same group as Proximity). Their venues are beautiful, their pricing was transparent, and they were easy to work with. As we began to plan Tom the florist was an amazing help not only with the venue provided florals but also with planning out how to arrange some additional florals we made. Our good feeling faded over time. As we approached the date, COVID policies did not change despite high levels of vaccination among staff and our guests. This restricted what we could do and led us to sign policies that were not enforced. On the last week before our ceremony, real cracks began to show. Rain was predicted for our outdoor Cloister Garden ceremony. Our O.Henry “event coordinator” promised to share a rain plan with us for months, but we did not receive specifics or an event diagram until the day before our ceremony. The rain plan proposed was to have our ceremony in a downstairs basement conference room. There was essentially no flexibility to accommodate better arrangements, despite multiple proposals from me and my wife. In the end, we had to pay the venue additional money to have our ceremony in the reception space (Pavilion Room) and our reception in the basement room. This placed a great damper on the days leading up to the wedding, and made it hard not to focus on how things went wrong on the big day. Overall, we loved the space at the O.Henry, but regretted that we were locked in with them the week of our wedding.
Pros:
* Beautiful and classy spaces
* (Mostly) clear upfront pricing
* Exceptionally good food
* Service at the reception was excellent
Cons:
* Detailed, couple driven management is required especially if outdoors
* Communication is slow
* Low flexibility to make changes after booking
* Fairly expensive food if you have a large-scale wedding
The Proximity Hotel went above and beyond for our wedding it was absolutely gorgeous!
We were married at Castle McCulloch and booked the Proximity Hotel Lantham room for our rehearsal dinner. It was amazing. The staff went above and beyond. Everything was so easy and so beautiful! We stayed in the City Suite Friday and Saturday night. It was amazing and a great place for my bridesmaids to get ready on Saturday Morning. We also rented a "Ready or knot suite" for the groomsmen to get ready. Highly recommend.
cool
My husband and I held our ceremony, cocktail hour, reception, and morning-after breakfast at the Proximity Hotel. Our guests could not stop raving about the beautiful location, phenomenal food, and convenient location of staying overnight at the Proximity. Lauren did an excellent job assisting us with planning our events from beginning to end. She was highly professional and very responsive to any of our questions, thoughts, as well as accommodating for our in-person meetings. Barry was our event manager for the day of the wedding and did an amazing job making the entire evening flow smoothly and making sure all the little details fell into place.
Having our wedding at the Proximity helped to decrease our stress of depending on the weather for a perfect ceremony, as all the event spaces were indoors although filled with light. Fortunately, we had nice weather for our wedding, so guests were able to venture outside to the gardens and patios when it cooled down at night. It was also such a stress reliever to have the caterer and florist through the venue. As I mentioned before, the food was AMAZING and there were so many options to choose from. The house florist, Brenda, was also phenomenal for designing arrangements, accent pieces, and lighting décor to make my vision come to life at such a reasonable cost.
The Proximity hotel is beautiful. The following review is consistent with the O'Henry Hotel as well because they are owned by the same people: If you are planning on having your wedding on the weekend, they mandate that you reserve a block of at least 20 rooms at a "discounted" rate of $220/night. If at least 80% of those rooms are not used then you are responsible for paying the difference. For my family that would have equated to over $3,000 wasted since no one would really need a room. Also, they had poor responsiveness when I was inquiring about having my wedding there. It took over 2 business days for someone to write me back, and when I finally got a phone appointment with a sales associate they never called me. I had to call them after waiting 45 minutes. Third, if you expect to have a rehearsal for your ceremony, you have to pay yet another rental fee just to spend 30 minutes rehearsing (unless you are OK with not having the room set up, and random guests walking around.) That fee is around $2,000 by the way (the same cost as reserving the room for the actual ceremony.) The reception venue costs about $3,000. Lastly, to reserve your date, they charge you the full rental cost amount, as well as 20% of the projected food/alcohol costs. This amount is NON-REFUNDABLE. So God forbid something changes, you will be out at least $7,000. Due to the poor response time, and outlandish and unforgiving policies, I quickly turned away from this venue. Which is a shame, since it is so beautiful. Onto the next...
We had our ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception in different spaces at the Proximity Hotel. The Proximity Hotel as a hotel excels in customer service and their wedding and events planning department does as well. Any idea that you could possibly have, the staff will help you make that happen. You may pay a premium for certain things, but they will help you bring your vision to life. Since so many things are included in your space rental, it makes the planning process very easy, especially when you live out of state and are planning from afar! The Proximity Hotel handles all things from linens, food, flowers, space set up, A/V technical, bar, etc. We worked with Hanna and Jacob for the planning aspects. They were both very helpful in Brenda is the in house florist for the Proximity. Her arrangements and bouquets are STUNNING! Jewel and Adam were our onsite staff during the wedding weekend and they made everything run so smoothly! The Proximity is not the cheapest wedding location in Greensboro, but you will get what you pay for. The were easy to work with during the planning period and executed everything more perfectly than I even envisioned.
We went here after the wedding for the night. Very special and luxurious. Great way to relax and wind down after a crazy evening.
We had both our rehearsal dinner and our reception at the O.Henry Hotel but in different rooms. The Pavilion Garden Room was the perfect place for our rehearsal dinner. We had a plated meal that was warm and inviting to all of our closest family and wedding party.
Our reception was in the Caldwell Ballroom. We chose to do heavy hors devours instead of a sit down dinner for the reception. Everyone raved about the food and said they were full from all of the options that the O.Henry passed and served.
The staff listed to our vision and completely delivered. It was an elegant, candlelit affair, but it turned into a great atmosphere of dancing and laughter later in the night.
Our guests loved getting to go upstairs whenever the night was over to their rooms and enjoyed a complimentary breakfast the next day.
Overall fantastic weekend we'll never forget!
Wonderful food and service!
They did a beautiful job with our wedding and made planning so much easier. Stephanie and Jewel did a great job. The food (from Printworks Bistro) was divine. Highly recommended.

Wedding Day: a Sunday in the summer 2012
Having our wedding reception at the Proximity Hotel was a great decision. The ambiance, the staff, the food, the accommodations, and the attention to detail were some of my favorite things about hosting our even there. The Proximity staff are awesome and take care of you throughout the event. If we needed something, we asked our awesome event coordinator Jewel about it and he took care of it no problem.
The Weaver Room served as a perfect backdrop for our reception photos. The sun set as we were dancing--made for some amazing shots that we will treasure forever.
The faux exit at the end where we dashed out in to a cab and circled the property while guests got to their cars made the finale of the wedding very special. Our driver even snuck us back into the hotel so we could stash away to our room privately.
Don't expect a lot of extra frills for the fees involved, but trust me, it is worth every penny. If you are looking for a lower price, go for the Revolution Room or have your reception on a Sunday.
Amanda and crew are awesome folks to work with. Highly recommended!
The O'Henry was the venue for our ceremony and reception. Everything was perfect on my special day and the staff was very friendly!
My Husband and I had the wedding of our dreams. The entire staff was amazing and completely professional. They truly went above and beyond to make sure our day had the special touches , and make the day extra special. When you add the amazing fact that this is a green hotel; that was just the icing on the cake. This is a beautiful venue and anyone that wants a beautiful, elegant, and memorable wedding then I would 100% hands down recommend THE PROXIMITY! OH and Brenda the hotel florist is AMAZING!
We had our reception at the proximity and everything was perfect! The staff was very attentive and timely. We brought a lot of handmade decorations, favors and pictures and they were able to display them everywhere, making us feel special!!
My bridal breakfast was hosted at PrintWorks Bistro and was absolutely delicious. They have a menu suited for any budget and will make personalized menus just for your group! They were well-made and will be a great addition to my wedding scrapbook. Wonderful food, wonderful service.
We were absolutely thrilled with our reception at the O. Henry hotel. Amanda was wonderful to work with and it was all inclusive so it saved a ton of stress. Our guests were so complimentary. The hotel has a wonderful atmosphere and we were very pleased with the excellent service.
This is the hotel to stay at and they should make more of them to put in cities all over the USA. We booked our wedding reception at this hotel and rooms for our guests, as well as ourselves. EVERY person that stayed at the hotel complimented us on our choice of hotel as it is modern, accessible, has outstanding customer service and a welcoming response to anything you might need, want or simply anticipate needing.
This is across the board and not just because we booked our wedding with them. They treat everyone like they are the most important guest and go the extra mile. They have cars (London Cabs) that they will use as taxis with minimum charges; they have airport shuttle pick up, which was a huge help for all the out of town guests that were flying in; they have a stunning set up in each room where there are giant windows with great light exposure; they have two sinks in each bathroom with Aveda products and all of it is 100% LEED certified as it is the "greenest" hotel in the USA.
The restaurant is Print Works Bistro and it services both guests, restaurant goer but it is also the menu for all the wedding food, which ensures that you receive quality meals for all your guests.
Without any hesitation, I would stay here again and again. I will compare all future hotels to this one for service and standards. My husband and I (along with 30 of our friends that stayed there for our wedding), travel for a living with an entertainment company and live in hotels on a very regular basis. This is one we would choose to stay in for both vacation and business.
Book it and you will have an amazing time guaranteed!
There was nothing about the O.Henry that we didn't like. From our initial meetings with the staff through the end of our reception- we were pleased. No request was too small or too big.
amanda and Morgan are wonderful to work with and made our day so special! They made us feel so cared for!
The Proximity Hotel is the absolute best venue for your wedding! My ceremony was held in the social lobby and my reception was held in the Weaver Room; I also used one of the bridal suites to host my bridesmaids luncheon. The facility is BEAUTIFUL, the staff is friendly and professional, the food is to die for, and Amanda is so incredibly easy to work with you'll start to wonder what so many brides spend their time stressing over. They handle EVERYTHING for you and make sure that you know that your day is as important to them as it is to you. The first call that I made in the planning process was to the Proximity and if I had to do it all over again, that is one thing I definitely would not change.
We had a mix up with our first venue for our rehearsal dinner, so we had to book the Proximity with just a few months to go... They did a great job listening to what we wanted and definately exceeded our expectations!
I had my wedding reception at the Proximity Hotel on May 20, 2011 and they were absolutely amazing. The food was fantastic and the service was A1. I worked with Amanda from the very beginning and she treated me like I was her only client. On the day of the wedding, Jewell payed attention to every detail. I would recommend the Proximity Hotel to anyone looking to have a beautiful intimate wedding. You will not be disappointed.
They provide excellent service. We had one event server that took care of my husband and I specifically, making sure that we always had food and drinks. The staff was very attentive and flexible throughout the entire planning process and even at the reception when the timeline was altered. We absolutely love the Proximity Hotel and would definitely recommend it for any type of event.
We absolutely loved the Proximity! Everything was wonderful and Amanda was the best!
I couldn't have asked for a better place to have my reception! They pay attention to every detail, and pamper you like you deserve also! The price is worth it for the service, and the food is guaranteed to be impeccable! I hope at least one of my daughters wants to be married there one day!
Absolutely wonderful experience working with O. Henry. The planning process was a breeze with very informed and punctual employees. Only down sides were minor on wedding day. Somewhat rushed meal, outdoor patio area was not opened as discussed, and entree not presented the same as during tasting. Other than the rushed meal, no guests knew of anything being "wrong". I would highly recommend this venue to anyone looking for an elegant and classic reception. The rich wood feeling made for the perfect setting for our fall wedding. We had a blast!!
This was pretty much a one-stop shop. The only things I had to bring to the venue were flower boquets (because they can provide beautiful centerpieces at some or no additional cost depending on preference), ceremony decorations, music, and cake. They did everything else and did it flawlessly. I was barely aware of the servers who made sure no one's glass was empty and no one's empty plate lingered on the table. The lighting for the picture was impeccable, and the event planning team was superb. Amanda and Jewel catered to my every need and desire, and they made me feel like a queen. I couldn't have asked for a better venue!
The staff was easy to work with the package prices were reasonable the rooms were beautiful and the outside of the hotel is wonderful for pictures.;The largest ballroom needs a little bit of updating.
It was a very convenient space especially for as many out of towners as we had coming in and the food was very good but not at all expensive.;I was assigned three different even coordinators throughout the course of my planning and it seemed like the outgoing ones didn't let anyone know what was going on. They forgot to place out the cocktails that I had specifically requested (in fact they lost the recipe and I had to give it to them again) they cut the top layer of my cake and they completely forgot to do the champagne toasts included in the contract. We had to scramble to get champagne for me and my new husband. I don't think any of this affected what a wonderful time any of the guests had but it stressed me and my family.
