The food was incredible and the staff was so accommodating! We had a buffet, but they made each of us a plate and brought it right to us after our first dance so it was guaranteed we eat before the night really kicked off. We had someone checking in on us the entire dinner - even when we were making our rounds with our guests. Everything was so seamless, and they packaged up leftovers for us to eat after we got home!

Pumpernickel Pickle was amazing every step of the way. Their services were very affordable while also having great quality! The staff was so helpful too! The food was delicious and made every one of our guests happy. They still talk about how good it was! We were very pleased with our choice and highly recommend!

Pumpernickel Pickle did a fantastic job with the catering for our wedding, and our guests can't stop raving to us about (a) how good the food was and (b) how courteous the staff was at their beck and call. They were a joy to work with, and their twist on traditional food fare was a welcome appreciation in southwest Virginia. There's absolutely nothing we would change about our catering, and we would happily recommend PP to our friends and family!

Let's face it--your caterer is probably one of your most, if not the most important vendor of your day. At the end of the day, your guests will remember if they liked the food or not. Cue the pressure to find the best caterer--and you'll find it with Pumpernickel Pickle. I fell in love with Pumpernickel Pickle after the first email--they were honest and upfront with prices and really worked with me to have exactly the menu I wanted. They are creative with their dishes (um hellooooo maple donut and chicken bites and my custom Harry Potter dessert bar complete with butterbeer shooters) and their food is DELICIOUS. Seriously, my now mother-in-law is probably the pickiest person on this planet and a food snob and she COMPLIMENTED me on the caterer. Everyone said the food was tasty and they were impressed with the staff who were super friendly and professional. I've been engaged for over two years (thanks grad school) and anytime a little question popped in my head, PP was quick to respond and never made me feel like a bugaboo. They helped me figure out logistics like how much alcohol to buy to how to figure out napkins (because apparently napkins are something you care about when you plan weddings). I can't sing their praises enough, shoutout to Sarah Pendleton, one of the owners for being so attentive, she's one of the best people on the planet and with her you'll be in great hands. So stop your search and book PP--you won't regret it.

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. I NEVER leave a bad review but I feel that this deserves it. We originally had booked with Pumpernickel with great ambition. After our first deposit everything went downhill. Every time we called it was like we had to remind them of what it was we were having at our wedding. They could never remember what it was that was planned for our wedding (maybe have a notepad with all of our details in front of you every time we talk). We came in for our tasting and were left sitting out by ourselves with almost no interaction from the staff. At the end the chef came out and we were able to ask a few questions. They wanted to do a site survey so when they came out to where our wedding will be held, the PP staff member stood there for a few minutes until we finally prompted to see what it was she needed out there. Every time we tried to communicate with Pumpernickel it would be multiple days in between responses (minimum of about 2, maximum of about a week). There wasn’t much organization in how they relayed information to us. They never told us exactly what they would provide besides food, and when trying to ask they never answer phones, takes days to respond to texts, etc. We finally complained and were put in touch with the owner... so we thought our problems were resolved. Once we spoke to her she told us that we were asking Amina to go outside of her scope of work in regards to table linens (which they offered to resource through them). Then we were told that they don’t respond on the weekends and that’s why they hadn’t responded (we’d contact on a Wednesday and hear back on a Monday or Tuesday). When we told the owner that we thought we had been given poor customer service the whole time she got very rude and said we’re not a good fit for each other and that she’d refund our deposit. the company is relying on its reputation from the past and the fact that its food is good. There are better companies out there that care about customer service and will make your wedding experience SO much better. Once we booked our photographers, we realized how much better customer service can be provided to make you feel comfortable going into your wedding and this company is NOT one of them.

Highly Recommend! Pumpernickel Pickle Catering recently catered the food for our wedding reception. The food was absolutely amazing, everyone during and now after the wedding can't stop complimenting the food! They were kind enough to make to-go boxes for myself and the groom for after the reception was over! The staff was phenomenal helping out wherever possible, and it showed as several guests have commented on the prompt service and excellent organization. Pumpernickel offered a tasting which was my favorite part of the planning process! Highly recommend this staff for any wedding or upcoming event!

Pumpernickel Pickle was a wonderful caterer for our wedding. The food was all very tasty, especially the mac-n-cheese! They were prompt in their email responses and very accommodating. Their prices were also quite reasonable and there were numerous delicious options to select. The display and service was very nice and professional during the reception.

Amazing company to work with! The food was incredible and we rented our plates with them as well. The staff made sure my husband and I ate a ton on our wedding day and we appreciated it so much!!

I would not recommended pumpernickel. We were very disappointed for many reasons. The food tasted a lot better at the tasting than it did the day of the wedding. It wasn’t hot during the wedding, we had to remind them to restock food and plates as guests were going through the buffet line. Some of their workers were rude to my guests which is extremely disappointing. They told my brother in law he wasn’t allowed to have seconds, they also told another guest he couldn’t take more than one piece of the flank steak (which the pieces were basically bite size so that’s ridiculous). We got crab cake sliders as apps and the bun was so hard I’m not sure how anyone could even bite into it. For the money we paid, we did not get the service or quality of food we deserved. Pumpernickel was one of the most expensive caterers out of all of the quotes we got and it was 100% not worth it. I tried reaching out to the owner after to let her know these things so that no other bride and groom have the same experience as us and she reached out to her team and told me her team said the food was very good and hot, which of course they are going to tell their boss that since it would be their own fault if it wasn’t. I will say, the head lady the day of the wedding was very nice and helpful but that is one of the only good things I can say about our experience as a whole with pumpernickel. I would not recommend.

We loved PP's menu and went with the lowest tier buffet style at the wedding. The tasting prior to the wedding was absolutely delicious. The day of the wedding - they brought out appetizers to the wedding party who was still taking pictures - fantastic! The food could have been a bit warmer at the reception, but the taste was delicious! I am still dreaming about those bourbon whipped sweet potatoes.

PP were excellent to work with. The food was incredible and the staff went above and beyond to coordinate with my other vendors to make sure everything ran as smoothly as possible! They served us first to make sure we ate, and sent us away with leftovers! They were great with communicating during the entire process and I would absolutely recommend!

The staff at Pumpernickel Pickle is incredible to work with! Amina and Sarah were so wonderful and so quick with responding to any questions and very helpful with giving us choices and options, which we greatly appreciated! The food is amazing and our guests are still talking about how good the Spinach and Artichoke Dip and the Mac and Cheese was! We definitely recommend those two items! Great team to work with and made things so easy!

As mother of the bride I will say this catering company knocked it out of the universe!!! Above and beyond all expectations..our daughter was in Dallas TX and we are in Roanoke VA so it was all long distance and a lot was on me but they never once failed to answer any questions---and when I began to panic at the 11th hour they called in help for me!

Pumpernickel did such an amazing job!! The food was so delicious and all the guest commented on how great it was. All the staff was very nice to work with. Everything was so organized and coordinated throughout the whole process.

Pumpernickel is the same price if not less expensive than most standard caterers, and they offer so much more. They’re easy to work with and reply to emails quickly. My guests raved about the food at the wedding. We had fried pimento cheese puffs and spinach and artichoke dip, Tuscan flank steak, mushroom risotto, chicken Marsala, vegetable stir fry, and rainbow trout almandine. Pumpernickel made sure everything ran well and even got to go boxes ready for me and my new husband. Even though we ate some at the wedding, everything was so busy we ended up starving later and really appreciated that touch. I highly recommend them.

Pumpernickel Pickle is amazing! My husband and I used them for our wedding in October and both the food and the service were phenomenal! Throughout the planning process Sarah and Willie were very flexible to work with. They replied quickly to any questions we had and went out of their way to accommodate us. My husband was unable to make it to our tasting, but Sarah and Willie were kind enough to send some home with me so he could taste it for himself. Our guests LOVED the food. That is one thing everyone raved about and that we repeatedly heard from every guest we spoke to after the wedding. The wait staff was so nice and very professional. They did an excellent job keeping everything up and making sure everything looked nice! Overall we were very pleased with the service and would definitely recommend them to everyone!

"PNP" is outstanding not only with their food but with their communication as well. Sarah was quick to respond to all my inquiries even after I had left her hanging for a couple months before reaching out again (sorry sarah!!). They were professional throughout all our meetings and correspondences and their staff was incredible on wedding day! Our cocktail hour was unexpectedly extended and their staff made sure my bridal party was well fed, bringing us snacks to the back room where we were tucked away. Once the party began they quickly brought food to my husband and I and even after delaying for almost an hour the food was still warm and delicious! We got compliments all night on how great our food was (pork loin with apple chutney was the #1 pick!). Sarah even contacted me a week before our wedding to reduce our price because our head count had gone down. I would recommend them to anyone who asked, you won't regret it!

Sarah, Amina and the "Pickle team" catered my daughters Oct 2017 wedding at the Columns in McGaheysville, Va. They were very responsive and flexible in scheduling our pre-event tasting. The menu choices were amazing and offered something for every taste. Pumpernickel Pickle traveled from Roanoke on the wedding day, brought all the food, servers, bartenders, vintage dishes and furniture that helped to transform the event hall into a magical place for the wedding reception. The food was delicious... kebobs grilled on site with dipping sauces, pork loin with apple chutney, bourbon whipped sweet potatoes, salad, roasted vegetables, and mushroom risotto all served family style which helped to let our guests get acquainted. .The staff were professional, friendly and helpful. Pumpernickel Pickle Catering was one of the best decisions we made during our wedding planning process! Their coordinators were awesome to work with and quick to respond with questions or concerns. Their food is amazing and I highly recommend the maple glazed chicken doughnut bites! Our guests ate every single one they had! We had so many guests tell us during and after the wedding that Pumpernickel's Catering was some of the best wedding food they had ever eaten. We opted for comfort foods and a buffet style reception. Everything went off without a hitch and their staff was incredibly helpful and professional! I cannot recommend them enough!

Pumpernickel Pickle was absolutely amazing to work with! Sarah and Willie were so helpful and flexible. They responded quickly to any questions we had. My husband and I tried some of the more adventurous food at our tasting. We didn’t see the point in tasting something we’d had a billion times before. It was totally worth it! My husband fell in love with the maple chicken doughnuts- Willie and Sarah even helped me surprise him with some more for Valentine’s day! They were so sweet to help me with that. He loved it. We ended up having beef brisket croquets, maple chicken doughnuts, fruit, and bruschetta as appetizers. Bourbon whipped sweet potatoes, grilled veggies, smoked gouda mac and cheese, salad, coffee rubbed New York strip steak, and lemon basil chicken for dinner. They made our wedding cake, which was a simple vanilla and actually pretty good. I’m not a huge fan of cake so we also had two types of pie and two types of cheesecake. All of the food was fresh and absolutely delicious! There was plenty for all of our 150 guests and we even had a few leftovers. I highly recommend Pumpernickel Pickle to anyone. They are awesome!

Pumpernickel Pickle was absolutely the most wonderful choice I could have made when selecting a caterer for our wedding. Sarah and Willie were quick to respond to any inquiries I had, the food was incredible, and their staff and service the day of was impeccable. Our guests raved about the food for weeks after, even requesting recipes for various dishes PP served that day. To top it off, we had PP do flaming donuts and ice cream during dessert, and we're still hearing about how it was the best dessert our guests have ever had at a wedding! Pricing was so reasonable!! Please do yourself a favor and book with PP.

They ruined my wedding 2 weeks before the wedding. They gave us the old bait and switch. We were told one thing regarding prices for kids but then they charged us adult prices for kids. When questioned, I was told that they were "super apologetic" about the miswording. The worse experience I have ever had.

Willie and Sarah are awesome! They are so patient and kind and will do whatever it is to satisfy what YOU NEED for your big day. With such a diverse wedding party/guest that we'll be having, we basically created our own menu to incorporate all the different cultural food, Pumpernickel Pickle was able to do JUST THAT! We have done numerous of food tasting before I got to the PERFECT menu. (Usually some places will not allow that and if they do, they would charge you a couple hundreds of dollars just for TASTING!) My fiance, my mom and I will be having one last final tasting closer to the wedding to make sure we are on top of everything. But that just shows you how patient and willing they are to cater to your needs. I recently moved to CA, communication rather it was through phone or email with Willie and Sarah was not an issue at all. They still made me feel comfortable and confident that everything will turn out amazing. With this all being said, I felt confident from the very first time I communicated with Pumpernickel Pickle and I'm ecstatic for our wedding day to see how everything turns out!
