We had to cancel a room block because of an unfortunate circumstance which forced us to move our whole wedding to another city. Renaissance was unwilling to understand our situation and still wanted to charge us 80% of the rooms we had blocked. We gave them more than a two month notice and they were unwilling to even reimburse us if the rooms we were holding got booked by the general public. They wanted to use the money we would pay to cancel to advertise and get their rooms booked. We felt as if this was unfair because they would be making double the profit. Our hands are now tied and are forced to keep the room block so the Renaissance can't profit from our loss. They are being slightly flexible and letting us use the room block throughout the week but this penalty will be effecting our wedding budget greatly. We have emailed the VP of Sales and have yet to get a reply. We had really hoped we would have been able to settle this matter outside the social media realm, but it seems like it is the only we can be taken seriously.
Our guests really loved this hotel since it was within walking distance to downtown Asheville. The rooms were newly renovated, and the amenities were wonderful. We did make welcome bags and paid $3 for each of them to be delivered to the hotel rooms, but some of them never made it....Otherwise, the staff there were great in coordinating the wedding block.
The Renaissance is ideally located in downtown Asheville within walking distance from all that downtown has to offer. The room are nice, and the views are beautiful. That being said, this was the most stressful part of my wedding planning. We got a good rate for the weekend in our contract, but guest were charged the same for other days even though you could get those rooms cheaper online of through the national phone (not to mention the contract was only for Friday and Saturday). We were told we would get our wedding night free, and then later shut down. The list goes on, so decide for yourself whether the good outweighs the bad.
We had rooms that weren't cleanedn during the weekend including the honeymoon suite when we checked in. Reservations were wrong at check in-reservations that i made and know that i gave the correct information to them. Air conditioners that didn't work. And guests who got directions from the front desk were given the wrong directions. They were given directions to another wedding party staying at the hotel for the weekend. They handled other parts of our wedding-dinner and brunch and the catering was excellent but the rooms were not.
It was at the top of the hotel and had great mountain views! One whole side of the room was windows that looked out to watch the sun set over the mountain tops. We had the club lounge the opened up to the dinning room. This was very helpful to have a side room for people to sit and enjoy the bar.
it overlooked the city and was centrally located
