I would give Selene 100 stars if i could! She did the most beautiful job, and was fantastic every step of the way. I brought my moms old wedding dress with the big huge 80s puffy sleeves in. I was pretty nervous because even though my moms dress looked great It was hard to have the vision of what it's actually going to look like. To be honest, I was semi regretting telling my mom I would wear her dress. BOY I WAS WRONG!!!! Selene meticulously altered the sleeves into the cutest cut ever. She brought in the waist where I felt like an actual princess. We had multiple fittings, each time Selene making it more and more beautiful, It came out better than I could have ever imagined. You could feel the love, it felt like my aunt was altering my dress. When I picked up my dress to bring it home I literally cried and thanked her. I didn't cry on the wedding day lol...but I cried for Selene. She knew how I wanted to look as a woman and was just so nice to work with. She also made my veil, which was also gorgeous. I would trust her with anything alterations, she will make you look fantastic, feel fantastic, and great customer service. I posted before and after pics, I wish i could wear my dress again, hopefully I have a daughter to continue the tradition.
Selene was recommended to me by my bridal boutique (Spina Bride) as she had worked on my dress before and they felt comfortable she would deliver great results. Well from the moment I met Selene she was an absolute pleasure to work with - such a sweet soul and it was apparent she was extremely knowledgeable and talented at her craft. I was very nervous about alterations as I'm sure any bride was - having a custom gown you don't have time to order a new one if there are any mistakes. But I felt very comfortable with Selene and fully trusted her suggestions. From our first appointment, to my fitting, to the end result - she was an absolute pleasure to work with and the end result was absolutely perfect - it hugged me in all the right places and laid beautifully on my body despite not being an easy material or hemline to work with. I can't thank Selene and her team enough for helping bring my wedding vision to life!! Highly recommend Selene Bridal Alterations for all NYC brides!
Selene helped take the stress out of the alterations process. I had a few other appointments at larger alteration shops in the city and was not impressed or pleased with the experiences. I am SO GLAD I found Selene instead!! She was able to get me in quickly and her process took half the time of what other larger companies were quoting me. Each time I visited she made me feel confident and beautiful in my dress. I felt like she truly cared and was invested in helping my dream dress become a reality. It fit perfectly the day of the wedding!! Not only that, but she made me the most beautiful custom veil that perfectly completed my outfit. I’m so thankful that she was a part of the process, I highly recommend her!
I worked with Selene for my wedding, rehearsal dinner and afterparty dress alterations, and she was amazing!! She did such a great job with the dresses and her customer service was also fantastic. She was so helpful, warm, and efficient. She did a truly amazing job and I would work with her again for any future alterations! Thank you so much for everything! :)
I can’t say enough about Selene, she really is a miracle worker. Her talent is definitely unmatched in the city and if you’re looking for someone you can trust to handle your dress with extreme care, Selene is your lady. She made my Liz Martinez even more spectacular than it already was, her attention to detail and delicate hand with such a complicated dress was out of this world. Selene is so dedicated to her craft and you can tell how much care goes into each and every piece. She works in over drive to get you what you need and on top of it is the kindest person. Not to mention she was able to turn around my fittings in under 2 weeks, she did not rush me once and even asked me to come back a fifth time to make sure we got it 100% right.
Selene took a very complicated fitting with a two week turn around and I am walking away with a dress that fits me better than I could have ever imagined and feels completely custom made to me because of the intricate work she did. She even helped me pick out the perfect undergarments! I can’t recommend Selene enough, the piece of mind was such a god send after the first time I walked in there. Don’t add more stress to your life - just go to Selene.
Selene essentially saved my day and a lot of stress. Basically my dress was from Pronovias NYC, and they botched the alterations and gave me a hard time. I went home near tears, but found Selene. I went in (she took me like next day, two weeks before my wedding), she calmed me down, looked me straight in the eye and said she can fix it. It was so bad, we couldn't even zip it, we couldn't find the bustle, it was crooked - it was so bad that luckily there was no cut fabric. I highly recommend Selene - she got it right, my dress was perfect and I was expecting only almost perfect because the disaster she had to deal with. She was overall amazing and listened to how I wanted the dress to look, but also gave me realities and truth about the fabric, the corset and what she could do, the train and that I needed a three point bustle - just overall a professional and new her stuff. She turned around things so quickly and always made sure I was happy with it and comfortable at the quick fittings. Thank you Selene!
Selene was an absolute angel! I went to visit her back in October when my wedding was scheduled for September 2020. Welp covid happened and I had to call Selene with my NEW wedding date that was only two weeks after the shop reopened. I asked her if she would be able to have it done and she assured me she would. I didn't have high expectations, I've heard so many horror stories especially when it comes to last minute planning but she did! She had my dress completely finished and it was more gored than I could have imagined. I am so happy I found Selene, she was communicative, professional and just the sweetest. I had a meltdown during my last fitting and almost fainted and Selene was patient. She even grabbed a magazine and fanned me to cool down. I was terrified and she was so calm and understanding. Thank you Selene for making my wedding dress absolutely perfect!
Selene did an amazing job altering my wedding gown! She is a very talented seamstress and is very accommodating. I was in a bit of a shock when my fully beaded Atelier Pronovias wedding gown came in significantly larger than expected. It felt like a complete disaster. At the time, I wasn't sure if my wedding gown had a chance of getting fixed.
Luckily, I met Selene, who immediately put me at ease. She explained the alterations process very thoroughly, so I knew what to expect. Her work was pure magic. Selene was able to seamlessly take off two inches of fabric on each side of my dress. She removed and reattached the lace appliqués in a way that I couldn't even notice. She fixed the built-in corset to fit me perfectly, and added beautiful custom made off-the-shoulder sleeves to achieve a romantic look. I couldn't be happier with how my wedding gown turned out. I didn't think it was possible, but Selene made it happen!
I think Selene is a great person. BUT, I would not recommend her. Here are the reasons:
1. She broke my wedding shoes (over $600) as she was fixing my hem and did a horrible job repairing them. She didn't even give me a discount for fixing my dress or even offered to pay for repairing my shoes
2. She cut a hole in my dress. My poor maid of honor had to sew it up last minute. Overall, would not recommend
Selene and her mother are absolutely wonderful! I had two couture wedding dresses arrive to me much, much larger than I expected after sending in incorrect measurements accidentally to the dress designer overseas. One of the dresses was an asymmetrical chiffon gown, so delicate and light that it weighed less than a pencil! I thought to tailor it while still preserving the integrity of the design would be impossible. Selene answered my frantic call, had me come in the same day for a fitting, and worked with me on a very tight timeframe of two weeks to my wedding day. Her prices are fair, she is accurate with her time estimates, and needless to say, I am writing this review because she truly saved the day and tailored my delicate dresses perfectly to match my figure. She even consulted with and worked together with her mother, a lifetime professional seamstress, to make sure the jobs were done right. I am forever grateful to Selene Bridal Alterations for making it possible for me to wear my dream wedding dress in the couture fashion it was intended.
I found my gown at a bridal salon out of state that did not offer alterations so I needed to find someone local to do them. I had consultations from a couple of tailors in the city and Selene was the only one that addressed all of my concerns with the fit of the gown and made me feel comfortable that she could handle the intricate lace detailing and still make it fit perfectly. Selene was friendly, welcoming and always professional. She was upfront and honest about the entire process from consultation to the final fitting. I am so happy I found Selene - I felt so beautiful on my wedding day thanks in large part to the amazing work she did.
Selene was a lovely lady who did her best to give me what I wanted. At my initial meeting, she was very honest about what she could accomplish with my dress and what she could not. I truly believe that she did her best to alter my gown according to my desires.
Apparently, my dress (A Blush by Hayley Paige gown with a simple, but very structured, mermaid bodice) was constructed incorrectly by the designer-- something I did not know until Selene's knowledgeable eye discovered it. The bodice was never going to lay 100% perfectly, but it seemed like something new was wrong with the dress at every single fitting.
At my initial meeting with her, we agreed on what needed to be done to the gown, and we set our next appointment for 2 months later (closer to the wedding).
When I arrived, with bridesmaids in tow, 2 months later-- nothing had been done to my dress. Not a single alteration had taken place. Honestly, I believe that she forgot about it and then attempted to cover it up by saying that we had "agreed that nothing would be done because there was so much time before the wedding." That was never my understanding and I never would have made another appointment just to re-pin what we had already agreed needed to be altered. I was extremely frustrated that my time, and my bridesmaids' time, had been wasted by a fruitless appointment.
At the next appointment, a week later, alterations had finally been made to the gown, but it was not finished.
A week later, it still wasn't quite correct.
This continued, with something too tight or something else now puckered because the fabric shifted....I went through 5 fittings (6, if you include the initial consultation) before I finally took my dress home.
At my final fitting, Selene and her assistant hand-stitched the final alterations while I waited in the store. This means that my gown wasn't steamed when I took it home, but I just wanted to be done with the whole process.
On my wedding day, the gown fit differently than it did in the shop. The changes we had made somehow didn't hold up. I had to just deal with it and let it go.
I don't want to give a bad review, because Selene worked very hard for me, her prices were reasonable, and she had a big task with my gown. My bodice was so structured and she was fighting a hard battle to make it look good and fit correctly. But it was an extraordinarily arduous process and it never fit exactly how I wanted. Perhaps my gown's needs were just too great.
I would advise anyone going to see her that they be very specific in what you want and what you expect to be accomplished by your next appointment. If your dress is exceptionally complicated, perhaps another seamstress might be better.
Gave my dress on a Tuesday. Was supposed to pick it up 11 days later on a Saturday. I called on Friday to ask if the dress was ready & the owner told me it was. When I picked it up on Saturday, I was in a rush as I was illegally parked. I didn't look at the dress until a few hours before the wedding only to find NOTHING had been done to it! It still had the same hem she had cut on me when I was in the store. Thank goodness it was a long dress & wasn't noticeable because she almost ruined a beautiful occasion. I will never return here! She's not a woman of her word.
I had my bridal gown bustled -american style. It consisted of 6 pairs hooks and loops. Cost me 150 to have it done. After about an hour of dancing, one of the hook/loops got undone so I had to 'MacGyver' it.
Three stars because it's expensive, but services were prompt and easy!
I first visited Selene to have a bridesmaid dress hemmed at the last minute. They did an excellent job, finished quickly, and charged a fair price.
I returned to Selene for alterations on my wedding dresses. I could not be more pleased. My primary wedding dress had two layers -- a slip and a lace overlay. It was pretty form-fitting and I didn't want to wear a bra, so the fit of the slip was important. The lace also needed to be altered and hemmed. Selene was not only able to fit the slip layer perfectly, but expertly hem the lace and create a bustle for both layers that looked lovely in my wedding pictures. I highly recommend visiting this shop -- I'll be back to have my work clothes altered soon!
