We were very happy with our decision to have our reception at the Sheraton Commander. The location is great (close to public transit and plenty of things for guests to do nearby) and the value of the package was very good relative to other similar options in the area. Judy and the whole team were amazing - very experienced (super helpful since we had never done anything like this before!) and they all worked great together and with all our other vendors (many of whom Judy recommended and were all fantastic). Our guests were also very happy with their stays at the hotel - only complaint was that it was a little complicated to make reservations in the room block. We would highly recommend the Sheraton Commander!
Judy, and the entire staff at the Sheraton Commander are brilliant. Seriously, incredible.
I was initially hopeful because after my initial email to Judy was responded to within 24 hours (this unfortunately is not the norm when you are trying to book more than a year in advance). Not only did Judy respond, she answered all of my initial questions and more. We had a specific vision in mind and Judy worked with us through every. single. email. Step-by-step to make our vision come to fruition. All of the food the day of was just as delicious as our tasting, and all weird food allergies were easily accommodated. The staff at the Sheraton is incredible. SUPER attentive without being annoying. Everyone who worked the wedding was such a joy, and we even caught a few of them dancing in the wings at the reception! It was marvelous. The Commander is comparatively affordable (with a customizable budget) for a large crowd in Boston, and is far less work than the other venues at the same price point. Can we get married at the Sheraton Commander again?
Get married here. Seriously. You will not be sorry you chose the Commander.
Judy, the events manager, is the most amazing person. She helped us through every step of the process, had great ideas, was super responsive, and was an overall delight to work with. Now that my wedding is over, I'm a little disappointed that I won't be able to hang out with her any more!
The staff at the Commander were consistently friendly, attentive, efficient, and just so nice! From bellhops to waiters, everyone rocked!
And the food! The food is outstanding! Over 140 meals were served on time, with no guests waiting around. I'd recommend the devils on horseback for cocktail hour. The Commander only takes one wedding at a time, and it shows!
The hotel itself is beautiful, with lots of historic touches and a George Washington theme. The rooms are comfortable and spacious. You can't beat the location in Harvard Square, 5 minutes from the T. My favorite banquet rooms are the Lexington and Concord rooms with amazing original windows, which is where we hosted brunch.
So many guests kept coming up to the groom and I to tell us how much they loved the food, the staff, and the hotel. I cannot sing the praises of the Commander loud enough!
We cannot speak more highly of our experience at the Sheraton Commander if we tried. After banging our heads against the wall trying to find the perfect venue, we realized we should check out the Sheraton. Our families have been staying at the Sheraton Commander for years while we were in college and graduate school. We met with Judy and were blown away. They operate like a very, very well oil-machined. Judy is professional, flexible, accommodating, and just remarkable! Every question she answered within minutes. If we had an idea, she was flexible and would help brainstorm how we could make it possible. She had us fill out planning forms at periodic intervals to keep us on track with wedding planning. Most importantly she met with us two days before our wedding to go over all our decorations, thank you gifts, etc. This helped us make sure that everything was ready with a few days to spare and we could just enjoy the day before and the day of our wedding. All staff was perfect -- flexible on booking rooms, room rates, and room blocks. All of our guests staying in the hotel (and there were a lot!) were just gushing about the service. After the party, there were a few lost items and all were found and promptly returned to their owners. Our top two priorities were to have everyone we wanted at our wedding and to have a raging dance party. Judy and the Sheraton made this possible by preplating our salads, having the toasts and first dances move smoothly along, and arranging tables such that there was tons of room to dance. The dance floor was full the whole time! And we are so grateful for their list of recommended vendors -- WOW! We met the most amazing photographers through Solare Photography and an incredible DJ (DJ Martika) through their list of vendors. The photographer and DJ had worked with the Sheraton before, knew the ropes and the lay of the land, and were so good at their jobs. I am exhausted from all the fun we had but we would get married again at the Sheraton in a heartbeat. Wow, wow, wow. Thank you Sheraton Commander for making our day a truly magical experience.
We held our wedding reception at the Sheraton Commander in July 2016. It was a perfect venue for our size (about 100 people). Our guests loved the hotel and the location in Harvard Square was perfect for out-of-town guests as they can wander around the square or head into Boston on the T. The hotel treated us like family for the weekend that we were there. Our parents were upgraded to beautiful suites and the staff made everyone feel at home.
The Commander is a great venue for hosting a reception with classic charm and elegance. The terrace lounge gave guests room to mingle before having dinner/dancing in the ballroom. The ballroom is beautiful and all of our guests loved the location. The food was excellent at our tasting and the few bites that I got at the wedding were similarly great.
With regard to pricing, the Commander is a phenomenal value. It isn't cheap but the experience that we received far exceeded what we paid.
Lastly and most importantly, I can't speak highly enough about working with Judy Brillhart at the Commander. She made great suggestions to help us plan the reception and attended to day-of details and logistics so that we could relax and enjoy our day.
We highly recommend the Sheraton Commander. You won't be disappointed.
Let me just first start off by saying, I researched and visited ALOT of venues in the Greater Boston area for months. Everywhere, there was always a catch--and it was always a pretty unattainable one for any bride looking for a gorgeous, affordable venue. The Sheraton was the last venue I toured--after rescheduling several times due to the crazy snowy 2014/2015 winter we had! I was ready to book another venue in Brookline, but wanted to wait until after I toured The Sheraton Commander just so that I could make a conclusive decision. Boy am I sure glad I did!
From the beginning, Judy was amazing. I had SO many questions and hypotheticals and she was always attentive, personable, and professional. This venue offers SO much for the price and the elegance cannot be beat. My wedding day came, and it was the wedding I always dreamed of. The food, the drinks, the DJ, the gorgeous ballroom, everything--it was perfect! Judy and the entire staff were flawless--they were so attentive yet discreet. Our guests are still talking about how fabulous our wedding was--which is a huge compliment when you spent a year and a half planning it!
I can't recommend this venue enough to other brides. Seriously, if you're looking for an amazing venue that offers so many things I think no other venue can and being so close to Boston, contact Judy!
From the beginning Doris and I felt taken care of. The customer service was awesome. Judy's joyful attitude with how she approached her work was so refreshing, and I think kind of rare these days.
If anyone I know is looking for a hip Boston area location, a classy, intimate venue with a staff that looks to please the couple getting married then I will highly recommend they talk to Judy!
We picked the Sheraton Commander for its elegant feel and history. The hotel was built as a tribute to General Washington and purchased during the depression by a man who wife always wanted to own a glorious hotel. The Commander ballrooms are still exquisite and the staff was amazing.
Our DJ died unexpectedly and Judy the Wedding Coordinator checked for replacements, vetted them before sending us a few and then helped us select a new one a mere 2 weeks before the big day.
The food was amazing and the Head Chef did an amazing job accounting for some very odd allergies in our wedding. I highly recommend them and can not possibly say enough wonderful things about the staff and location. Simply marvelous.
The Sheraton Commander (specifically Judy Brillhart!) was an incredible location to have our wedding and reception. The location and venue are absolutely breathtaking and made for incredible photos. Almost all of our guests (100/165) stayed at the hotel and the Sheraton Commander was more than accommodating to all - all guests raved about the hotel. For the entirety of the day the staff was working to please us and always one-step ahead of what needed to be happening. The food was incredible that evening and people are still raving about the Blue Hill Filet. Any time I had a question about the wedding the staff was prompt to respond to any email or call I made to them. It felt as if I was their top priority. They made any and all requests I had happen to ensure that all stress and or responsibility was alleviated from me on the day of the wedding. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this hotel. They also offer active duty military discounts so as a military family it was nice to be honored.
The Sheraton Commander was the perfect location for our wedding reception this August! Judy Brillhart and her staff did an amazing job, and Judy was wonderful throughout the entire planning process up through the wedding. Whenever other vendors asked where we were having our reception, and we told them the Sheraton, they told us we were in good hands with Judy – and this was so true! She guided us through the process and was so patient and helpful, answering the smallest questions and giving advice when we asked for it. Judy went out of her way to be helpful at so many points, and we are very grateful for her help. She was a great knowledge base for recommendations for other vendors too. The Sheraton itself is a lovely hotel, and the ballrooms are beautiful. The staff was great, and did a perfect job setting up and even helped us take it down, and our guests loved the food. We had our wedding ceremony in Harvard Memorial Church, so we just walked there and took pictures along the way – you can’t beat the location! My husband and I highly recommend this for your reception location – you truly will be in good hands!
The Sheraton Commander was the perfect place for my wedding! From the first meeting my husband and I had with Judy Brillhart (our coordinator/event manager), we knew it was the right choice for us. To start, the hotel itself is beautiful. It's smaller than most, but has charm and lots of vintage details and is also modern and sleek. I cannot say enough about Judy, we couldn't have done it without her. She was such a huge part of the reason we chose the Commander. Again, from our first meeting, she was kind and easy to talk to while being able to answer any questions we gave her. Throughout the process of planning, she answered all calls/e-mails almost immediately, which made my life a lot easier. Anytime we had any sort of issue or special request, Judy's response would be "Okay, that's not a problem. We can do it." I never stressed about any part of the reception because I knew it was in good hands. Every other member of the Commander staff that I (or my family or friends) encountered was just as kind and ready to help. I have to note too that the staff was especially caring towards one of my aunts at my reception who has cerebral palsy and is in a wheelchair. They were attentive to her and made sure she was comfortable throughout the reception, and even gave another aunt (her caretaker) an elevator key to borrow so they wouldn't have to wait for the larger elevator when going to their room. Overall, everything was perfect. The spaces are beautiful, everyone raved about the food, and the people are kind. My husband and I could not be happier!
We got married on April 11th, 2015 (almost exactly one week ago!) so it's still fresh in my mind. Judy and her staff made everything so easy!
It's difficult for me not to micromanage everything, but Sheraton's reception venue was so responsive, efficient, and willing to help that I felt truly at ease in the whole planning process.
We also didn't want to drop a fortune on our wedding reception, but for the price (compared to other venues), this was definitely a steal. We had two videos (one of them was a surprise) play during the reception, and the transition was seamless. People told us the food was great. Our DJ was professional and did his best to keep the dance floor going!
Afterwards, we had an after-party at Nubar, which is right in the hotel, for free. It was a great way to end the night!
Overall, Judy and the Sheraton staff were not only helpful, they were definitely invested, attentive, and just all-around awesome. I would 100% recommend this. I got the quality of a much more expensive wedding through Sheraton, and the location cannot be beat, especially if you take photos in Harvard Yard. Do it!! You won't regret it :)
The Sheraton Commander is amazing! We were married there in October of 2014. From the first day we picked it as our venue the staff at the Sheraton Commander were fabulous. This is especially true for Judy Brillhart, the Director of Event Management. I honestly cannot say enough good things about her. She made the planning process a dream, always responding to any of our questions and solving any problem that we threw her way. Not only is she amazing professionally, but she shows you how much she cares about you and making your event special.
On top of the staff, the hotel is beautiful. From the lobby, to the rooms, to the stunning ballroom, the space made our wedding feel very elegant. The food was also great. The Chef was willing to work with us on all of our requests and happily accommodated our guests' dietary restrictions.
Nubar is also wonderful. We had many meals there throughout the planning process and our guests loved having such a great restaurant right in the lobby of the hotel.
I highly recommend the Sheraton Commander, whether you are looking for a wedding venue or just looking for a place to stay. I could not have been happier with my experience.
Perfect! Judy Brillhart is amazing! She handled all the details. Thus made the planning process and entire event seamless. The Commander is elegant. The food was excellent. The guests had a wonderful time. As did I!
The bride and groom have memories to last a lifetime!
Absolutely Perfect!!
When my wife and I began looking for a venue to host our wedding reception we wanted to ensure that the venue was personal, intimate, indicative of our tastes and styles, and preferably in the area we live (Harvard Sq). We were very skeptical about going with a hotel as they typically lack that intimate feel that we were looking for. The Sheraton Commander turned out to be exactly what we were looking for. The Sheraton seamlessly blends history, character, elegance, and a somewhat European boutique hotel feel with TOP notch service, amenities, and professionalism. Holly, our wedding planner/coordinator at the Sheraton, was an absolute pleasure to work with. Her attention to detail, ongoing flexibility with us, and energetic demeanor made the planning process fun and memorable. The Sheraton truly became our home away from home during our wedding weekend and I think that is hard to find that in a hotel.
I cannot say enough about how crucial a role the Sheraton Commander played in ensuring that our wedding weekend was nothing short of magic. To say I was impressed would be a gross understatement. This hotel and it's staff deserve all of the accolades that they are receiving on this website (and elsewhere). A true gem (not to mention cornerstone) in Harvard Square. I would recommend the Sheraton Commander to anyone who doesn't want to have just another typical wedding reception. If you have seen one hotel wedding reception you have seen them all...until you have been to a wedding reception at the Sheraton Commander. Thanks again for making our wedding weekend and especially our wedding reception the best night of our lives!
The WHOLE experience for my wedding reception with Judy & the team at the Sheraton COULD NOT have gone better :-) Judy is a true professional who does her job well & makes sure every 'i' gets dotted & 't' crossed! My husband and I were so impressed with the Sheraton and loved every moment of our wedding reception! Judy makes sure that you get the reception you want and within your budget. I'm SO glad we picked this location; the George Washington Ballroom is such a beautiful spot and accommodates wedding receptions wonderfully. All of our guests who also stayed at the Sheraton during our wedding weekend could not stop complimenting their stay & how well they were treated. I cannot say enough good things about the Sheraton Commander and highly recommend this location for wedding receptions & events!
Let me just start off by saying that my wedding was absolutely perfect from start to finish. People told me in the days and weeks leading up to my wedding that something would inevitably go wrong and that I would just need to let the little things go and try and enjoy my wedding day. I thought this was horrible advice first off, but even more importantly it was COMPLETELY untrue! Judy and the entire team at The Sheraton Commander were absolute rockstars and made sure that our big day went exactly as planned. The ballroom was absolutely stunning, set up and decorated exactly how I pictured. The food was unbelievable (our tasting might be the 2nd best day of my life & my friends and family are still raving about the food!). The specialty cocktails they created for us were delicious & the bar service was phenomenal – we definitely kept them busy!
We started the whole wedding process having a pretty strong vision of what we wanted; a more cocktail party style reception with high and low cocktail tables throughout the space with passed appetizers and stations instead of a seated dinner. After explaining all our ideas to Judy, and having my mother question if this type of wedding reception would work (we come from a long line of plated dinner weddings in my family!), Judy shared that she loved that type of event & would want the exact same type of reception for her own wedding. This immediately erased any fears or doubt that my mother had, and we knew that we’d picked the perfect location for our wedding!
Judy was fantastic to work with – every single detail I had ever imagined (and definitely ones I’d didn’t even know existed) was taken care of and executed to perfection. The Sheraton Commander made it so easy to plan our wedding, taking care of linens, wedding cake, furniture rentals, set up/break down, coordinating with our band/photographer/photobooth, a morning after brunch, EVERYTHING. All I had to do was make a decision and Judy took care of the rest. There are a million little things that go into planning a wedding; so it was amazing to know that all of these important details were in very good hands. I didn’t worry one bit, which is very out of character for me. This speaks volumes to Judy’s experience and professionalism – I knew I had nothing to worry about.
The level of customer service we received during the entire planning process is second to none; I have never met a nicer, knowledgeable, accommodating and just downright awesome hotel staff. Every person we interacted with was spectacular, from the front desk staff (I showed up with 38 gift bags for guests checking in and they didn’t even bat an eye!), to Richard and the staff at Nubar, who hosted our after party – we truly felt as if we were the only guests/customers/couple on earth, they made us feel so special.
So, long story short The Sheraton Commander was the absolutely perfect venue for our wedding and we love them and will sing their praises forever. My husband and I joke that we need to visit them at least once a week because we miss them so much.
My wedding was at the Elegant Sheraton Commander Hotel. The hotel is unique because of its modern yet historic charm. Our wedding day was very beautiful and intimate. The rooms were beautifully decorated and have brilliant chandeliers. My event planner, Holly and her staff, was extremely helpful and attentive. Every detail was taken care of. Picking the right venue for a wedding can be difficult. Once we walked into the classic Sheraton Commander we just knew this was the right place for us!
Everything went smoothly. We worked mainly with Holly and she was great. The day went and she was quite on top of everything. If we needed something, she was there to help. The place was beautiful and the price was right. The food was great and everyone had a great time. At the end there was a bit of a mistake on the final invoice, but Holly jumped on it and took care of the issue. I would totally recommend this place to brides that want a classic and beautiful place with no fuss.
Had a wonderful reception at the Commander. Judy was wonderful as a coordinator for the planning and day of logistics, made everything so easy and seamless! I couldn't have been happier with how the reception turned out and got SO many compliments from family and friends! Plus the price was significantly cheaper than other hotels in Cambridge, which was a definite positive...
We had our ceremony in the Terrace Room and reception in the George Washington Ballroom. From start to finish, working with the Commander was a great experience. The hotel and venue rooms are absolutely beautiful. The hotel staff were great to work with. The coordinator, Judy, is amazing. She answered all of our questions and gave us great advice. The day of the wedding everything was set up perfectly. Everything was handled for us so all we had to do was enjoy the day. We are still getting raves about the food. The location of the hotel in Harvard Square is great for a city wedding. The hotel also just recently updated it's bar and it's great for an after party location. We definitely feel like we got great value for the price.
I loved the feel of the Commander the moment we walked in - it has so much character and at once feels old and updated. The ballroom was absolutely beautiful on the day of the wedding. The best part was Judy and her team...They could not have been more helpful and flexible throughout the whole wedding process, which was definitely stressful at times. I would highly recommend the Commander to any other brides who want an elegant yet fun city wedding!
I can not say enough about this venue. We wanted a place that was elegant, yet comfortable, and the ability to have our wedding and reception in one place. Judy and her staff made everything we wanted come to life, and dealt with any possible issue before it became an issue, and made it easy to plan our wedding from a distance. We looked at many venues, and the Commander was very reasonably priced and convenient for both local guests and those from out of town that wanted to go sightseeing.
I would highly recommend (and have) the Commander to other brides.
Without a doubt, the Sheraton Commander was the perfect venue for our 10/10/10 wedding. We wanted a beautiful, formal ballroom - but not stuffy - one where we would still feel at home. This is exactly what we got at the Sheraton Commander. The warm, courteous staff always treated us like VIPs from start to finish of the planning process and throughout the event. Judy, the Director of Catering, is extremely friendly and professional. She always had a smile on her face and was always willing to take the time to answer my long question filled emails. No request was too large for Judy or her team, and trust me, we had some unique requests for our wedding. Were there any bumps along the way? Sure, but only minor ones that were resolved promptly and efficiently. After the planning process, I was 100% confident that Judy and her team would service a flawless event. From the ballroom to the food to the DJ (included in our package) to the lighting/photobooth recommendations by Judy - everything was top notch and less expensive than most comparable venues we researched. All of our guests have told us that it was the best wedding they've ever been to. I know this is in large part to Judy, Holly and the entire Sheraton Commander team. I would recommend this venue to anyone in a heartbeat.
Overall, we were very pleased with everything. The service was good, the ballroom is beautiful, and it's reasonably priced for the prime location. The venue was very flexible which is one of the reasons decided on the Sheraton Commander. They had no minimums and the ballroom can hold up to 250. The location was great - minutes walk from the redline, in the heart of Harvard Square, very convenient for our out of town guests.
