Based on reviews I was nervous hiring this company for a photo booth but the price was so much better than others and I could get the physical booth we wanted. I could not have been more happy. Matt was always responsive and friendly in the planning and negotiating. He was a clear communicator and was committed to making sure he understood what we wanted.
Day of, he showed up on time, got set up and was ready to go without issue. Was dressed casually, but that was 100% fine with me. He was friendly and social with my guests. Helped out with staging photos and doing extra prints for people. It was one of the highlights and both the booth and Matt have been repeatedly brought up by attendees as being great.
In speaking to my Wedding Coordinator and other vendors, everyone was happy and would reccomend him unreservedly.
I am shocked by the poor reviews he has gotten. I cannot speak to the DJ services since we didn't ask for that, but we would have hired him for that too if we knew then what we know now.
Bottom line: we were entirely disappointed with the DJ services provided and would strongly discourage anyone from engaging this company for an event.
We booked both the DJ and photobooth services.
The photobooth was great, no complaints there. The DJ however, was a complete catastrophe.
We originally spoke with Matt and booked his services in mid March.
Matt specifically mentioned that he will be the one working our event (this is important for later).
The Wednesday before the wedding we had an hour conversation with Matt about details.
A few important points:
- We provided a detailed ceremony outline including where/what the DJ should play. We also sent recordings of each of these pieces.
- Our first dance was to an original composition mixed with another song. Originally, we thought Matt would fade between the two, but on the call it became apparent we should provide a copy of the song with transition built in (which we promised to do and did).
- We requested 3 non typical songs: a german song, where we specifically mentioned both song and artist, and two traditional jewish songs where we sent YouTube links. Matt said he has many sources and will find versions of all.
- The ceremony was planned for 4pm and Matt asked if setup at 1pm would be ok.
So what happens on the day of the wedding:
- Around 1:45pm we call Matt to ask what’s going on. His response, “I’m just running a little late, be there in a bit” (Please notice the first person pronoun)
- Around 2pm Jay shows up. Who is Jay you ask? Good question! Jay is “a friend of Matt’s” (Jay’s words exactly). Matt has other events and will be stopping by later (Matt never came to our event).
- Jay didn’t have any of the detailed instructions we sent Matt. Instead he had some disorganized notes. This means that as guests were already starting to arrive, we had to spend about a half our repeating what was discussed with Matt just 3 days earlier!
- For our first dance song, Jay had the wrong song cued up. Luckily we caught this in the preparations. On top of that, Jay used this recording for his sound check, although the song was supposed to be a surprise. One would expect a bit more sense from a wedding DJ. Given that though, we knew the song worked just fine on the system, yet when it actually came time for the first dance, it took Jay 3 tries to get the song playing at a volume that anybody could hear!
- Remember the “sources” Matt mentioned? The German song was by the wrong artist! The two traditional jewish songs…Jay simply played the YouTube links we sent.
- We had sent an additional list of songs we wished to be included by the DJ. While this list with audio files was on Jay’s computer, he had no idea about it and we had to look through the computer with him and point it out.
- We discussed what/when the DJ should announce certain things. However, the way Jay set up the speakers, you couldn’t hear anything unless you were on the dance floor…so his announcements were useless and it was left up to us.
- There was about a 30 minute pause in the dancing program for dessert. During this time we had to twice tell Jay not to play our special requests during the break when nobody was around to hear them. One would think this is common sense.
We don’t want to be too hard on Jay, he was thrown into a shitty situation.
Matt’s handling of this was 100% unprofessional, disrespectful, and disingenuous.
Our warning is: don’t book these guys, you have no idea what you’re going to get!
We had a similar experience to the the other 1 star review. The attendant arrived late had a minimum amount of props. Later found out that he had never done this before and was hired by the owner. Pictures were over exposed and he didn't do anything but just pushed the button. When we notified Matt the owner he wasn't willing to make it right, he just made excuses and then told us he had a business to run. Not professional at all I would definitely not waste your money here.
The photobooth was a big hit at our wedding! It was a lot of fun and not only did we get double prints, we got a flash drive with all the pictures that were taken. One thing that I wish was different was the photo booth didn't have a screen inside so you can check your pose or make sure everyone is in the picture. Overall, it was definitely worth the price! We would use them again!
First I was disappointed to find out that my design I went back and forth with wasn't correct. Second for a while the sun was too bright and the guests turned out all white. It was always an outdoor wedding, so it would have been nice to know the booth doesn't work well outdoors. Also, in my contract it stated Matt would be the one managing the booth, which it ended up not being Matt. I would also warn people not to pay for double prints, as they didn't actually include it. I spend a lot of time making a guestbook for the photos at the photo booth, and multiple guests told me after they wished they had printed an extra photo for them to keep. I have tried emailing Matt multiple times never hearing a thing back. I did receive all the pictures on a flash drive, so I can print extra copies for guests. But as stated on Thumbtack.com, he said he gave me a FULL refund back for the hassle, but I still have never received any refund or email back.

Good. Had Fun, would use them again.
We hired Smile Photo Booth for our September wedding and our guests still are talking about how much fun it was, liking the pictures on facebook, and asking who we used!
Eric was professional, efficient, and his prices were AMAZING compared to his competitors (especially for how nice and modern the booth was). We HIGHLY recommend him.
