I do not recommend this venue to anyone. You could make it work if you are set on the location, don't care about overpaying, don't expect much and are bringing in your own outside catering, serving staff, rental furniture, planner and staff, etc. Be prepared for an inconsistent and possibly unpleasant experience, our experience closely matched the many 1-2 star reviews on google and yelp so be sure to read those (especially the ones about cancelled weddings). They've experienced a lot of management changes and staff turnover in the last several years and it's definitely reflected in the guest experience, it's wildly off target from their perceived brand. The service and communication we received were inconsistent and generally not helpful. Nothing about this place is worth the price besides the location and most of the rooms have very nice furnishings. The food is good but quality doesn't quite meet the price target and we had super slow/inexperienced service both at the restaurant and during our event - the $3000 cheese board for 65 people was A JOKE, literally three/four types of cheese and some almonds. By the time we realized how bad things were, we were committed to the date, location and contract and made it work in spite of their deficiencies with lots of help from family and friends and a good dose of humility. It took me awhile to write this review because I wanted to block this out and focus on the good parts of the wedding experience, but in hopes of helping someone else avoid a similar experience I felt like I needed to share!
Planning a wedding in Moab from Denver may seem daunting. However, the personal attention and overall assistance provided by Nina Melic was outstanding. She makes these weddings happen, and does it in a professional, kind and thoughtful manner. She is a gem.
CHEF HENRY is AMAZING also! Our guests (38 people total) were blown away by the food and the location of the wedding. The staff at the ranch were so friendly, and went above and beyond. Big shout out to Jeff - a great server/host.
This Ranch is heaven on earth. It is secluded, private and a perfect setting for an intimate and beautiful wedding. With Nina and Chef Henry on your team, all of your culinary and aesthetic dreams truly do become a reality.
Being located in Moab, there are logistical constraints on what is possible, but we knew this coming in. To save on costs, we brought in our own flowers and cake - but those things could be purchased in Moab. It was just a personal choice. The only other issue was the music - the ceremony music was suppose to be handled by an "AV specialist" from the ranch, but it ended up being the bartender - which is fine, but added stress to my maid of honor right before the ceremony began. Also, DJs are tricky to communicate with/find in the Moab/Grand Junction area. I would recommend bringing in someone you trust for the music.
The planning, coordinating and final product were outstanding. It went by so quickly, and it was just so special. If you are looking for an incredibly intimate, phenomenal experience in Moab, surrounded by amazing views and the gentle Colorado, this is the place for you.
The moment we stepped out of our car, I knew this would be where we had our wedding. It is a magical place, and we look forward to returning for our anniversary each year to follow.
Overall, Nina and Henry made this wedding incredible. SRR is an outstanding destination wedding, and we cannot recommend it enough. Truly phenomenal.
Trying to describe our wedding at Sorrel Ranch has us reaching beyond Webster's range of words.
They simply do not seem quite good enough. Not nearly.
Shon & I chose the Sorrel River Ranch with some hesitation since although we travel from Vermont to Moab quite often, we have never been to the property.
We know we wanted our intimate wedding of 11 to be something that would not only engrave in our families why Moab means so much to us.... but also treat them to an overdose of raw stunning landscapes and a shamefully exquisite feast.
This was achieved and then... it went above.
Every Bride and Groom has an image in their head what they want their wedding day to be like.
You play out every detail in your mind.
By your actual day it is perhaps bordering on unrealistic. Well.... this not only matched our vision... it blew it away. The initial contact with Nina made us at ease. She was so enthusiastic ! She helped us with every detail, sent us photos and options , entertained every question promptly and without tire through the entire process.
Something that was of utmost importance to both my Husband and I was the meal. We both try to outdo each other in the kitchen and we often revolve our travels around food experiences. We came up with an intense food menu and presented it to Chef Henry. Honestly we were concerned that he would find it a bit lofty. His response made us smile from ear to ear as he was just as excited as us and wanted to know if he had "play" room. We said " Go for it "
He took our menu and morphed it into the most thrilling , vibrant, sensational meal of our lives. It was intensely remarkable. Our families almost applauded with each course that came out....the thought and work, and clear love of Farm to Table dining was so apparent. It was food in the most beautiful state. Henry & his team are artists and everyone was just floored .The composition on each plate was a dance of color, texture and culinary thoughtfulness.
Courses such as ( to list a few): Compressed watermelon skewer, with basil caviar, spring radish, banyuls vinegar, sea salt, micro basil and balsamic reduction; Saffron sous vide pork belly, green tomato marmalade, roasted beet pearls, petite greens, red veined sorrel and sea salt; Dessert of a house made waffle cone with a scoop of Ice cream they made from local honey.
The Service: We did not felt like it was a "job" to the Staff. We felt like we were guests in a good friends home. Everyone was so welcoming and genuine. We cannot express how much we appreciated how they made us and our families feel.
We finished with S'mores by the fire...Shon and I looked around at the smiles of our guests...the chatter about the event and the joy they had for us. Perfect is not good enough. It is just not. It was the best day of our lives and we owe a major part of that to this wonderful, wonderful place and its gracious Hosts.
We will be returning for many Anniversaries. Thank you all.
