About this vendor
The Iron Horse Hotel is a historic wedding venue located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This hotel, which once served as a warehouse, dates back to 1907. It stands proud right in the city’s historic warehouse district. While it is over 100 years old, the building has been renovated and transformed over the years into the chic space it is today. However, touches like the exposed ceilings and brick add a warm and historic feel. Renovations were finished in 2008, and this modern luxury boutique hotel began opening its doors to couples seeking a unique space in which to exchange their vows while embracing a very authentic Milwaukee experience.

We had an amazing rehearsal dinner here and wedding weekend! Olivia in reservations and Amaleigh for the dinner we’re so helpful and Olivia was so amazing with all our last minute details! Great staff and great spacious rooms!
When we booked the Iron Horse at the beginning of 2018 for our 9/21/19 wedding, we could t be more excited! We started with one coordinator and during the process transitioned to their current coordinator Raven. This transition was seamless! From tasting, to rehearsal, to day of, Raven was amazing and so easy to work with! She helped us organize our thoughts, walk us through plans, and was a rockstar day of as rain forced us to change our plans.
The service of the Iron Horse is top notch as well, they go above and beyond to make you feel welcome and accommodate you and your guests. Our wedding with them was remarkable and could not have gone so smoothly without their staff!
We could not have asked for a better venue for our wedding. The staff was all so professional and courteous, and the planner, Jessica was SO PROFESSIONAL AND SWEET.
The Iron Horse staff accommodated our large brunch wedding with ease, and made us feel so special on our day, from surprises in our suite, and making anything we needed happen.
We felt like all the staff was celebrating with us, and could not have asked for more on our day.
Truly worth every penny.
When we walked into the Iron Horse Hotel we knew we had to have our wedding ceremony there! It is an absolutely beautiful venue and since we had a winter wedding we needed a place our guests would enjoy hanging out in for a couple hours (and our guests raved about how neat it was!). We held our ceremony in The Gallery downstairs, which was very modern but had great ambiance once we added some soft globe lights strung along the ceiling, which the hotel provided. We rented the room for 2 hours (3o min. ceremony) and I thought it was very reasonably priced compared to some of the other venues we looked at. The hotel staff took care of chair setup and take down and someone was on hand at all times if we needed anything. Jessica, who I worked with to coordinate everything, was wonderful to work with. She was very promt with responses to emails and made sure everything went smoothly. I stayed at the hotel the night before the wedding in one of the suites and the rooms are stunning! With our wedding block we were able to reserve rooms for our guests at a competitive price compared to other nice hotels in the area. We also loved that we were able to do photos with our wedding party throughout the hotel, which lead to some really beautiful shots! Brunch at Smyth is a must the day after!! I would highly recommend The Iron Horse for anyone who wants a unique venue!
GREAT place to host an event! Threw an engagement party in the Iron Horse Hotel lobby for my sister-in-law, and it was the perfect venue. Beautiful décor, great vibe, great food, and fantastic cocktails, and the staff was outstanding. I worked with Jessica Lange and Sandra to plan the event, and they were both incredibly helpful and accommodating, making sure we had everything we wanted, from places for our decorations, to the couple’s favorite signature cocktails and appetizers, to our own playlist over the sound system. The night of the event, John was our bartender – he was awesome – so great with our guests and made amazing drinks, and Liz, Maddie and Aja made sure everything was perfect – and it was! I would very highly recommend this venue and team.
Jessica at The Iron Horse was fantastic. She's professional, timely, upbeat, & helpful. She knows what her venues can and cannot do so she will not lead you in the wrong direction. She's flexible when she needs to be and provides guidance in her planning. We never felt uncomfortable or left in the dark throughout our planning process.
The staff is very friendly and willing to provide any sort of assistance that they are able to. We were happy with our decision to have our wedding here. Guests loved the atmosphere and hospitality, as did we.
We had our September 2016 rehearsal dinner at the Iron Horse and I was really disappointed with the quality & service we received for such a high price tag. The catering department completely turned over during the few short months we were working with them. We met with 3 different people and the menu changed at least 3 times - very confusing, frustrating, and disconnected.
During our event, the bartender at our "hosted bar" disappeared for at least 30 minutes during cocktail hour and the food wasn't very good.
Jessica, our wedding coordinator was amazing! She was there through the entire process every step of the way. The day was perfect and everything that we wanted!
My husband and I had our ceremony and reception at The Iron Horse Hotel. We had such a great experience! Everyone at our wedding had an amazing time and absolutely loved the food. We worked with Jill, the Convention Services Manager, she did such a wonderful job hearing out what our vision was and making exactly what we said happen. We both could not have asked for a better place to have our special day.
Our wedding day was exquisite- the staff was attentive, the food was simply amazing, and the venue looked gorgeous just like we had imagined. It was the behind-the-scenes issues that couples need to watch for.
About a month prior to our wedding we were notified that another "event" had been booked the morning of our reception, meaning that though we had contracted the room starting at noon it wouldn't be set up and ready for vendors until 1:30. After a little bit of arm twisting The Iron Horse did get the other event to move which made the day less stressful overall.
While we genuinely enjoyed the most recent coordinator we worked with, we went through 3 event coordinators in the span of a year- this is difficult because you essentially have to re-explain everything you've already explained to the last person in that position. Not much you can do about this, but keep extensive notes on what you've discussed in all the meetings you've had with your coordinator if you're having your wedding here.
We checked in on Friday before the wedding and they didn't comp us our room for the night (included with our catering package) and our card was immediately overcharged. My (now) husband had to have the desk get in touch with the coordinator and blah blah blah but seriously, you don't want to be dealing with this on your wedding eve! Make sure to remind the event coordinator to approve your room comp with the front desk if you go with a package so that you are only charged the correct amount.
The reception area was in the basement with no windows, but it was sweltering hot even before guests arrived. We raised this concern to the staff several times but unfortunately their cooling system just couldn't handle the unusually hot day we were having (which the venue should probably look into updating to avoid this problem in the future.) We had about 103 in attendance and The Iron Horse states the room can accommodate up to 200- needless to say we are glad we were on the lower side! Our guests were pretty much dripping in sweat (fortunately we had them nice and drunk so they didn't mind as much).
Last but not least, the venue threw out our wedding cake without checking first which was ultimately heartbreaking because of the traditions attached to it. Out of everything, this was probably the most upsetting but the staff was extremely apologetic and our hope as a couple is that this is a mistake they will learn from and won't happen to anyone in the future.
Like I said, our wedding was beautiful and we were in complete bliss the night of the event. In light of how difficult and stressful wedding planning can be though, we are choosing to remember our wedding day as perfect.
We chose this venue as it is something just a bit different and it is an absolutely gorgeous boutique style hotel in the heart of Milwaukee. Right from the beginning, the staff was amazing and took us on a tour when we were first looking at booking. They were so quick to get back to us with all our questions and helped us every step of the way, right up to the day of! They thought of details that I never would have and checked in often to make sure we had all we needed. The catering staff even set up our reception area for us. The hotel staff is super friendly and the rooms and food are the best I have ever had. All of our guests were stunned at the gorgeous location and everyone commented on how delicious the food was (it was really amazing). The staff was always there to help and made everything run smoothly but was never in the way-they even though to grab some appetizers from the cocktail hour and put them at the headtable for us and the wedding party to eat since we missed the cocktail our due to being out taking pictures. I cannot say enough about this amazing venue. Stunning, professional, friendly, and so accommodating.
Overall I was very happy with selecting the Iron Horse as my venue. The hotel is gorgeous and the Yard is literally one of my favorite places on earth. However the event coordinators aren't that great at giving you all the info upfront. They hand you a packet of info and you're on your own to figure it all out. But I would still recommend this venture to other brides! It's perfect for very unique and nontraditional weddings.
We had a wonderful time. The Iron Horse Hotel staff, from the event coordinator to the waitresses, were exceptional. Our guests from in town and out of town raved about the food, the venue, and service. We highly recommend the Hotel to anyone!
My husband and I stayed at the Iron Horse hotel on the night of our wedding. We both travel quite a bit and we both agreed that for the price, the rooms simply are not worth it. They are very small and we had a large (wall-sized) photo of a woman staring at us all night. It was actually kind of creepy.
In addition to that, we tried to book a block at the hotel for our guests. However, after several emails and redirected phone calls, we decided to go somewhere else. Once the Iron Horse did get back to us, they did not answer our specific questions, rather sent a generic email with information on renting a hall for our wedding (which we did not want).
The Iron Horse has great communal rooms, and restaurants. However, their inconsistent customer service and overpriced rooms leave much to be desired.
Finally, I know that it is not expected, but it would have been nice for them to send something to the room, soda/snack etc. as a congratulations. We checked into a different hotel after our night at the Iron Horse and received a free upgrade, champagne and and congratulations card. I know it didn't cost the hotel much, but it was very much appreciated.
I just had my wedding reception there on 09/29/2012 (I used the lobby & library)
I have nothing but good things to say about the Iron Horse Hotel. From the beginning, the wedding coordinator was great, answering all my questions, making sure that everything is taken care of and assisting with making sure the right credit card was used for the food & alcohol.
I have heard nothing but great reviews about the food from my guests. They all said that it was amazing and very good. I didn't eat much because I was running around talking but from the little bits I was able to eat, they were amazing.
I would highly recommend the Iron Horse to anyone.
I was very pleased with many aspects of what The Iron Horse Hotel had to offer for our wedding on July 6th! The setting is beyond beautiful, the hotel is different and fun, and the food was phenomenal! I of course picked the hottest weekend in Milwaukee and the hotel was clearly unable to keep up with the high heat outside as everywhere in the hotel was hot - my room would not go anywhere below 77 degrees, not ideal let me tell you. Anthony the banquet manager was AMAZING to work with - he made sure to introduce himself and make sure I knew he was my point of contact with anything all night, great job! Amy on the other hand the wedding coordinator I never once saw from the time I checked in til the time I left, I thought that was rather unprofessional. Overall everyone had a great time and enjoyed the wedding, I would suggest Iron Horse to other people getting married in the area.
We held our outdoor wedding ceremony at The Yard (patio) at The Iron Horse Hotel. It was a beautiful and uniquely Milwaukee background. The banquet manager (Anthony?) was very helpful and even offered to return our ceremony arch for us. It was on the expensive side, but I'm happy we went with it. The hotel itself offered a number of great photo ops! We also stayed at the hotel for our wedding night. Gorgeous rooms!
