From start to finish Melissa was nothing short of amazing, helpful, and accommodating! We are truly grateful to have been matched up with her for this process. The Thayer hotel was absolutely beautiful and the perfect place to hold our wedding! Ourselves and our guests loved the hotel and had nothing but wonderful things to say about the wait staff throughout our wedding. Everyone was very kind and helpful! Aaron was also amazing. He truly helped to make our day so special and to run smoothly. He was constantly checking in on us and keeping us at ease from the day was dropped everything off until the end of our reception! We loved the Thayer and everyone there, it truly was the perfect day!

It started off very strong with the venue tour hosted by Melissa. She showed us all the spaces for ceremony and reception and all the options offered. It was also customizable, they are a very flexible hotel. Jessica was so sweet and helpful in the planning process and made things so easy for us. Aaron assisted in a big way the day of and accommodated almost every single obstacle the day could pose. And the food? Outstanding! I didn't have a bad meal once while we were there. Top notch quality food.
What a unique place to have a wedding. Every corner of the hotel is rich with West Point history and you can feel it. No guest of mine has ever been to a place like this for a wedding and more than once did people come up to me saying it was the best wedding they ever been to. I loved how convenient it made everything from having the ceremony, to transferring right into cocktail hour, to crashing in our room upstairs. This was truly a magical day and I cannot recommend the Thayer enough for your wedding needs.

The Thayer Hotel at West Point is the ultimate venue for the most perfect and most magical fairytale wedding! They have the most sweetest and kindest staff. We had the absolute pleasure to have Marie and Jessica help us plan our absolutely perfect wedding day! They made the planning so incredibly fun and easy to plan every detail. They are true professionals who take every detail into account and handle everything with the greatest joy and respect. We also were incredibly blessed to have Aaron as our Maître d. Aaron is the absolute prime example of the most perfect Maître d. He is absolutely flawless. He remembered every detail of our special day and went above and beyond to ensure we were taken care of the entire time during the dress rehearsal ceremony and dinner, the hours leading up to our wedding ceremony, the wedding ceremony, ensuring our rides were ready to go for pictures at Trophy Point, ensuring our guests had everything they needed, ensuring we were taken care of, and making sure our cocktail hour and reception were perfect! Aaron is incredibly detail oriented and extremely thoughtful. He truly ensured we had the absolute best day of our lives and the absolutely most incredible special day of our lives. We absolutely had the wedding of our dreams at The Thayer Hotel at West Point. Everything was perfection and 5++++ stars. The food and drinks were extremely good. The chef is extremely talented. They truly give you a lot. All of our guests commented how tasty the food was and loved the open bar. The views are absolutely stunning! We were blessed to have the wedding ceremony in the Eisenhower Room overlooking the Hudson River and mountains, the cocktail room in Grant ballroom (the first ballroom at West Point), and our reception in the grand Washington Ballroom again overlooking the beautiful mountains and Hudson River. Thank you Thayer Hotel at West Point for the wedding of our dreams! It was the most perfect fairytale that we will remember forever!

We worked with Melissa (ended up being my Thayer planner as well) and couldn’t recommend more. Melissa was great to work with and answered every question I had. We no longer live in NY, so Melissa setup a virtual walk through of the venue which helped us make our decision. They will set your VIPs up as visitors to West Point so you can take photos at Trophy Point if desired. This saved us so much time/stress on day of. Talia was our Maitre’D and she sure everything went according to the plan on the day of.
The food and drinks were delicious and received glowing reviews from our family and friends.

My wedding at the Thayer was an absolute dream; my family is still talking about it. I have been planning my wedding day for almost two years and Jessica, the Venue Coordinator, was nothing short of perfection. The communication, kindness, and patience she has is unparalleled. She was always willing to answer my questions or concerns in a timely manner with a smile, consideration, and respect. I felt incredibly grateful to have had the privilege of working with her to plan my day. Our tasting dinner with both parents was incredible, our family still talks about it too. Food for a wedding was a point of contention, I was not willing to settle for mediocre, and Chef Chris did not disappoint. He was extremely accommodating for all allergies and diets and made us feel safe and comfortable in the variety of foods available. The staff and hotel on the day of my wedding were as professional as they come. The warmth I felt from their positive energy, and how thoughtful they were delivering service to my guests was well worth it. I had the privilege of working with Diana as my Maitre D’. She is such a breath of fresh air in all the decision fatigue and stress the day of a wedding. I was able to trust her judgement, she was so respectful to all guests, family, myself and my husband. Her communication and professionalism is top tier and I truly felt so relieved knowing my vision would be executed through her. She was there for my scheduled breakfast the day after helping me gather all my belongings and chatting with my family. The valet were so helpful and sweet, the rooms were spotless, and all my guests loved walking around admiring the history and architecture. The Zulu rooftop bar was also such a hit!! It was so good knowing that after my event all my guests would be safe and could still party up there if they wanted. The view is absolutely killer, nothing beats being outdoors in the mountains over looking the Hudson River. I am so thankful to everyone at the Thayer and so pleased to have had them as my venue and would do it all again in a heartbeat.

Our experience with The Thayer Hotel was amazing. From the moment I contacted to inquire, to our first visit, to the tasting and to our wedding… everything was great. Casey wound up being our contact the entire time and she was great. If she didn’t have the answer, she found it. She never left us hanging. We met our maître d’ Aaron the day before our wedding and he was also great! He had such an attention to detail and made sure we were taken care of all evening. Our guests loved the beauty of the venue, the hotel accommodations and especially the food! My only tip for couples is if you are staying in the executive suite that a luggage cart cannot access that area, if you want certain things for the morning of your wedding (extra coffee, waters, champagne) to either bring or get it prepared the night before. It was tough to get what we wanted or needed with everything going on the day of. Also, if you have certain things you want to make sure that get back to you as far as decorations or items to make sure your maître d’ is aware. All in all, this venue was amazing and worked with us on different aspects to make sure we were taken care of. My husband and I plan on returning for years to come. I recommend the venue 10/10.

Our wedding weekend at The Thayer Hotel was perfect! From the start of our planning process all the way until the end, we enjoyed working with the Thayer and our coordinator Jessica. They checked all of our boxes as far as having enough rooms for our out of town guests, space for our rehearsal dinner, ceremony, reception, after party, and day after breakfast. We were so happy to be able to have all of the events in one space so that no one had to travel throughout the weekend and we did not have to provide transportation. During the planning process the communication with Jessica was open and clear and she was able to meet all of our needs. She even went above and beyond what we were expecting in order to truly make it our dream wedding. Even though it unfortunately rained on the wedding day, the Thayer staff were quick in their contingency planning and moved the ceremony into an indoor space that turned out beautiful. Having the after party at the Zulu rooftop was also a big hit. The guest rooms, venue spaces, food, staff, and hotel grounds were all exceptional. Our guests still have not stopped raving about the entire weekend and we are so happy that we had our wedding at The Thayer!

I got married at the Thayer Hotel June 2024.
People said the food was great and commented on how large the servings were, and how good the waiters were at the reception. Our guests were well fed and the guests loved the BEAUTIFUL view of the hudson river and surrounding mountains. They also loved the whole unique vibe of the place, we even had rainbows! I kind of liked how some of the decor was a little creepy in a fun way in some of the hallways with some creepy castle elements such as gargoyles. Our point person was Jessica who was very friendly even though our guests asked me to email her frequently to book their rooms and ask questions, I also emailed her frequently regardless lol and she was always very responsive. Our wedding programs arrived late in the mail and the hotel offered to slip them under the door for us, which was nice. They also let me know if guests called in with questions about things that I should know about. She also is firmly on the brides side if any difficult relatives call in to make requests or changes.
I'm a stickler for details, although everyone talked about how much they loved the wedding over and over here are my cons. I'm still upset they threw out my flowers at the end, I wish they had asked me what I wanted to do. I had beautiful peonies with delphiniums. The Maitre d' said he asked our planner (outside of Thayer who didn't remember I wanted to save them, I guess) so it was a combined effort of loss I think. I also did not tell him prior because I assumed she would remember. You are also introduced to him only a couple weeks before and by then I was not thinking of that. However, it rained earlier that day and the flower trays were water logged making them leaky I was told. An easy fix would be to just take the blooms and place them in some of the many vases we had around or just ask me. We also had a party night before, we rented a partially private party on the zulu lounge they had the choice of charging us 1500 or 3000 they choose the latter since they said it was prime time. I found that they could of easily charged us the lower price since we were brining in so much money for the place. We also would of bought twice the amount of drinks, if we had a proper bartender. The contract said we should have a dedicated bartender to our side which the zulu lounge was unaware of. I started to notice that our guests were waiting for a really long time to get served, really upsetting many of them. I'm not sure if the lounge was understaffed also adding to the issue. Several of the guests complained one of the bartender was rude, and that if they went around to the other side they would be served faster.
We added on butler passed plates, the servers would make a half round to guests and then place them down. I felt they could of held them longer, since we had so many guests. The managers apologized about the bartending situation after we complained. I also noticed they didn't kick out a couple (not in our party) who were on our side of the bar before the party started and were still being served on our side. We had henna artists as well, a staff member at the end sat down for henna which I generally didn't mind. I would of preferred to be asked though since we were paying for the artists. However the staff member waited until no guests were not going there, so it was not such a big deal.
I'm not sure if it was b/c our reception had such a live dance floor but it became SO hot in the venue the night of the wedding, they had to open the doors and guests had to go outside for air. I wonder if it is properly vented or if the air conditioning works well enough for large parties (we had roughly 140-150 guests). Also we asked for late check out because we had so much stuff in our room we had to get out (the bridal suite had stairs, which I think was my fault Jessica gave me the option of stairs and no stairs) and we went over noon by 10 minutes and they charged us 25 which is not a lot, but annoying.
Also it rained on our after party and it was moved to the pershing room which happens but they were cash only bar, meaning no square for credit card, or even just writing a tab, that we could settle in the morning. By then guests were drunk and only had credit cards on them. Which killed our vibe a little.
Overall the wedding was VERY well loved by a very high maintenance & international crowd and I would choose the venue again over and over again.

The Thayer is THE PLACE to get married. The staff was completely wonderful from planning to days after. The venue is just beautiful, the service from every employee is top notch, and the packages are completely reasonable for everything you get. Special shout out to Krista, Marie, Gino, Chris and Aaron who were extremely kind and who went over and beyond to make our day everything we could ask for. Everyone, literally everyone, who came to our wedding have only good things to say. Zero drama. Zero issues. Literally from finding a magical crochet hook to accommodating a Filippino food station they made magic happen. These people made a profound impact that my (now) husband and I will never forget. Choose this place as your venue and do the room block- especially on game week- you will not regret it. Oh and be sure to ask for Marie Schuette as your planner and Aaron Faulk as your Maître D’. Together you're in the best of hands!

If you're looking for an all-inclusive ceremony, reception, catering, and lodging location in a picturesque setting amid the Hudson River and mountains for your wedding, then the Thayer is the venue for you! My husband and I wanted to get married at an "all-in-one" venue so we could take some of the additional planning out of having to confirm multiple venues/vendors. The Thayer offers multiple rooms and locations, including outside, to give you options for where you want to have your ceremony and/or reception. Having the hotel rooms onsite was such a blessing, so no one had to drive -- they could just take the elevator upstairs and go to bed! Plus, having the U.S. Military Academy right next door offered our guests something to do in -between events; whether they paid for one of the 1.5 hour tours on post, grabbed a bite to eat at one of the quaint restaurants in downtown Highland Falls, or visited the Museum at the West Point Visitor's Center (which is free), there was something for everyone.
Chef Chris did an amazing job on the food, and after our original coordinator, Marie, had to step away 2 weeks before our wedding, Chelsea Allen stepped in immediately, got up to speed, and took us through to the finish line. And, throughout the day and night, our maître d', Diana, made sure to check in with us to ensure everything was going smoothly. To this point, because things happen/get lost in the shuffle, when we realized the macarons we had for our dessert table weren't put out, we found Diana to let her know and, within 5 minutes, the situation was remedied.
We are so happy with our wedding weekend and the service we received from the Thayer team, and highly recommend them as a venue!

It has been a little over a week since my wedding and getting married at Thayer truly felt like a fairytale. The scenery was amazing, the hotel is beautiful, and the food and drinks were outstanding. Aaron, our maître d, was incredible- he ran the rehearsal, wrangled my bridal party, and made sure my husband and I were totally taken care of before, during, and after the wedding. Guests loved the rooftop bar after party and the staff were friendly and helpful. While I had the most wonderful day, there were a few snags that I think are important to point out for future couples looking to get married here:
When you are assigned an event coordinator, if possible, request to have Chelsea Allen. My original coordinator, Marie, was initially responsive, but about 1 month prior to my wedding she stopped answering me despite multiple follow-ups and phone calls. 2 weeks before my wedding, I emailed to follow-up, and received an auto reply that she was out on emergency medical leave, with no coverage listed. I called the catering office and got a hold of Chelsea, who immediately assured me she would cover my event and took several hours to review the BEOs with me. Chelsea made me feel so comfortable and that my event was in good hands. Marie was originally supposed to be with me the morning of my wedding, but due to her leave, and the fact that Chelsea was not scheduled for the day of my wedding, there was no event coordinator presence the morning of my wedding, which was disappointing. Additionally, multiple requests that Marie told me could not be accommodated were handled instantly and with ease when brought up to Chelsea. To this day I have still not received an apology or email from Marie, even though we regularly were corresponding with one another for almost a year. I do wish I had Chelsea from the start as I think the planning process would have been smoother and less stressful.
When I booked Thayer with the sales coordinator, I was told a perk of the property was that valet was included in the wedding package. A couple months later, after contracts were signed, I was told this was no longer true and that I had to pay a fee to cover valet for my guests. I paid this flat fee but heard from multiple guests that they were turned away from valet as the lot was full. To me this was completely unacceptable since I paid a decent amount of money to have valet, and it was a bit embarrassing to hear this feedback.
We had gift bags for hotel guests, and my MOH overheard the front desk say they forgot to hand out some bags to those who checked in. The bags had invitations to a farewell breakfast on Sunday, so about 12-15 people did not get the invite (there were 6 bags left over and we made enough for all the rooms in our block).
Overall, I loved my wedding at Thayer, and I really feel like it was a wonderful venue choice; however, I would highly recommend a wedding planner for those couples getting married here to assist with the planning process.

As you mentioned, your original wedding coordinator had a medical emergency and was not able to complete the planning for your big day. That was a very unfortunate circumstance that we certainly wish had not happened. We are relieved that Marie is feeling better now and we are happy that Chelsea was able to step in and make you feel comfortable and handle your requests leading up to the wedding. We will let our management team know your concerns about the six gift bags that were not handed out and that you were disappointed that the parking lot had filled up. Thank you again! The entire staff at the Thayer were incredible. From changing to our rain plan, to changing the room it was in, to the food, staff- it was all amazing. The Maitre'd, Amy, was INCREDIBLE, as was out coordinator, Marie. I cannot say enough wonderful things about them. The brunch was beautiful and better than what we envisioned. I would recommend them to anyone!

My husband and I recently got married at The Thayer Hotel. We are truly sad it’s over, as we had the best experience of our lives there. You are treated with love, respect, and professionalism by all hotel staff. Many of our guests are reaching out to us to say the same!
Our coordinator, Marie, cared so deeply about ensuring we had the perfect day. We couldn’t have imagined a more lovely setting, delicious meals, and the BEST staff!

We had the pleasure of having our wedding ceremony and reception at the Thayer recently. We cannot express how wonderful the experience was! Everyone from Krista in sales, who helped us choose the type of reception we wanted, to Hayle, our on-site coordinator who was the best show-runner we could have hoped for, to the bartenders at our celebrations and the valets (Thank you, Phil!) who made getting in and out seamless and easy.... They were all just as helpful, friendly, professional, and cheerful as could be.
The rooms were immaculate and luxurious. Everywhere you looked, there was another gorgeous view! The bridal suite was perfect for not only getting ready, but for our pre-wedding ceremony of signing our wedding ketubah and was spacious enough to accommodate our entire family.
We cannot say enough good things about Chef Chris and his entire staff! I am celiac, and he went above and beyond to ensure that we could have the champagne brunch reception of our dreams, right down to the gluten-free waffles. We don't have room here to express all the compliments that we got from our guests regarding the quality, presentation and variety of our celebration feast.
Having a dedicated maître d' for our reception was indispensable and we didn’t even know that until Amy and her colleagues granted every request just as it was asked. Amy introduced herself to the principals in our wedding party, saw to their every need, and made sure that everything was exactly as we had wanted for our big day. She was so friendly and accommodating and made us feel like we were the number one priority for the entire hotel and staff.
It was an absolutely welcome surprise to come to our bridal suite after the reception to find a bottle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries to cap off the most perfect day we could have imagined. (Pro tip: Chocolate covered strawberries also make a gorgeous breakfast!)
We will heartily be recommending The Historic Thayer Hotel to all of our friends and family, and we can't wait to be able to visit again!

There are not enough words I can say of the praise we have for the Thayer Hotel staff. From day one meeting with the Event Planner, Casey Butler, to the wedding day everyone we encountered were professional, pleasant and took pride in their work which certainly is a rarity today. Casey Butler, our event planner, was wonderful to work with. She took the time to meet with us individually and walked us through what to expect the day of the reception. Any questions or issues that may have arrived after that meeting, she was always available via email or phone to answer and resolve. On our arrival to the hotel on the wedding weekend we were met with smiles and pleasantries from the Valet, Bell hops, Front Desk and Housekeeping. Everyone was always so pleasant to be around. My family can be a bit demanding and as usual some were, but the Front Desk along with their Supervisor Kaitlyn and Casey handled them with the utmost respect and resolved any issues they had. Our Maitra D ' Amy was the best! She made us feel comfortable and welcoming the minute we met her. Everything was perfect the day of the reception and the next day at Breakfast. Anyone who is wondering if they should hold a function here should stop wondering. I have been to many venues, and I can say I have never felt as welcomed at a place than I did here. Definitely will be going back in the future.

What an amazing venue. Beautiful place for a Wedding!! The every aspect of this place is simply beautiful. Food was amazing, service even better but nothing beats the ambiance and natural beauty. Casey is fabulous. She kept us informed and was quick with responses, which put me at ease throughout the planning process. Amy, our Maitre d, and her team excuted the plan flawlessly and made the day easy going and fun. I cannot thank Casey, Amy, and this beautiful venue enough for the best day of my life!

We had a lovely summer wedding at the Thayer and couldn't be happier. From first booking to the day of the event itself, their staff were quite helpful. We had a million questions and concerns for our planner, Molly, and she was very quick to reply. The venue itself is beautiful. We had the ceremony on-site on the lawn with the Hudson in the background. We wanted to get some photos at Trophy Point, a beautiful outlook deeper into West Point's campus and Molly worked with us to ensure that our wedding party and vendors could access the area.
Our event of 135 guests was held in the larger ballroom, on the ground level and it was perfect. The room could easily have held more people. Some of our family have specific dietary requirements and the kitchen staff were very flexible, including several silent menu options to those guests at no extra charge. We heard from our guests that the wait staff and bartenders were very attentive and helpful.
Our day-of coordinator, Amy, was also very efficient and helpful. She was omnipresent and on top of everything, knowing what signs needed to be where, when different events needed to happen, keeping the favors table stocked, etc. She made us feel like we were totally in control of the flow of the evening without being intrusive on the experience itself.
For the price, the Thayer is very similar to many catering halls and event spaces around NY/NJ, but they are a much better deal for the money. My wife and I will always be able to return to the place we were married, and we love that it is a historic and beautiful site, rather than just a nice banquet hall.
For its beauty and historic significance, and especially for the flexibility and helpfulness of their staff, we strongly recommend The Thayer for your wedding or event.

We had the most perfect wedding at the Thayer in September. We loved it the first time we visited and booked our date right away. We loved that the venue included space for our ceremony, rooms for our guests, excellent appetizers, dinner, and cake, and a day-of coordinator, and we appreciated the military discount. We had a snafu with our flower delivery, but honestly the hotel and grounds are so beautiful that extra flowers were not as necessary. Our guests stayed on the dance floor all night and everyone said it was the most fun wedding they've been to. I'd only caveat that the rooms are expensive so take a look at the rates ahead of booking and decide whether your guests will be able to afford the rooms.

Casey loved working with you and she is so glad that you had a super fun time. Also, thank you for the great advice to future couples. September and October are peak months so room rates will be higher than for wedding weekends in other less busy months. Thanks again. We wish you all the best!

We just had our wedding here and it was a dream come true. The venue grounds, accommodations, food, and staff were all phenomenal. Krista, Molly, and Amy did an amazing job from the first day we came to look at the venue months ago, to the weeks leading up to the wedding, and most importantly all the last minute and day of items that were taken care of behind the scenes to make the day go so smooth. All of the ceremony, cocktail hour, and receptions rooms were set up beautifully. Many of our family and friends were blown away by the entire weekend, and that couldn't have happened with out much of the help of the Maître D' and wedding planners at the Thayer. Would highly recommend this venue. We cant wait to go back to the Thayer to celebrate anniversaries and other occasions.

The Thayer Hotel was a beautiful venue to celebrate our wedding in the Hudson Valley. We cannot express our thank you enough to their team for making our wedding day so special. We worked with Carly and Hayle, and they both were so helpful and organized. They always answered our questions and responded when we needed them. We booked our wedding date right before COVID-19 hit, and there was a lot of uncertainty during wedding planning on what was happening if the day would actually go as scheduled, and what it would look like for our guests. Carly and Hayle supported us through the state mandates and changes throughout the last few months and gave us assurance that we would still have the day that we envisioned. Thankfully the restrictions lifted and we had the wedding day that we always imagined. Thank you again to Carly and Hayle, and the rest of The Thayer Hotel! You all made our wedding day everything and more than we could have imagined.

We chose The Thayer Hotel three years out from our wedding, so it was a long planning process. Each time there were questions, a sales representative kindly replied within a few days of our inquiries. Carly was great at managing our multiple needs and communicating back to us that everything was all set. The staff were all extremely polite and assisted with all of our requests. The food was fantastic! Kelly our day of coordinator took the time to go over everything the day before and then managed things flawlessly throughout the wedding day, taking the hiccups in stride and coming up with different alternatives. The one thing we didn't double check was the food for our special dietary needs guests. While any issues Kelly immediately took care of, there were definitely some differences in what we agreed to and what was provided. One thing I would suggest is definitely double check everything for the food was communicated from sales to the day of coordinator, especially if guests have special dietary needs but other than that it was a magical day and we could not have been happier in choosing The Thayer Hotel.

While a beautiful location that means a lot to us, the Thayer staff was very unprofessional and unresponsive. Granted we had postponed due to COVID, we ended up with a total of 6 different sales coordinators. We had to beg to receive a final bill....And then of course there was our food mix up. Sales ended up no giving the correct food order to catering. Luckily our other vendors were amazing. All in all, beautiful location, terrible service.

have been able to provide you continuity in your planning experience. We could never have foreseen a team member's maternity leave, another team member's military service or that Covid-19 would put us in the position of having to furlough some team members. We are so sorry that impacted your review and overall experience with us. As you know, from Carly's attention that evening and from her follow up with you after the events, Carly was incredibly sorry for her mistake on your first course. Had we had the menu items in house, we would have jumped at the chance to correct it immediately. The maitre d and the director of food and beverage were thankful that you praised their efforts in making the rest of the evening and the events a positive experience.

Attended a wedding there and it was amazing! I recently got engaged and the thayer was the first venue i reached out to for a quote. Krista was absolutely amazing! She responded quicky and followed up a week after to make sure everything downloaded and to see if i had questions and to set up in person to see the venue and go over more info. She was very nice and very thorough. We did unfortunately decided to postpone the date we put a softhold on. A few weeks later she followed up again to offer us an amazing deal!! We unfortunately are postponing due to a few circumstances but if you are considering this venue we had an amazing time at the wedding we attended, its on the top of our list and definitely reach out to Krista!

We may have been the first wedding that the Thayer staff had as the state Covid restrictions began to lift. However, you would not have known it as everything was flawlessly executed. We called the Thayer less than two weeks prior to July 4 to see if we could throw together a wedding ceremony and brunch on our originally scheduled wedding date. All the event planners and managers were responsive and professional. Everyone I dealt with from initial booking to planning to day-of was extremely helpful.
We had no day-of timeline or organization on our end yet Kelsey (our day-of Thayer point person/planner) swept in and kept the day moving and organized. I was not sure if I would feel like a bride that day since all our original plans were out the window due to Covid, but everyone at the Thayer made us feel so special. While obviously we would have wished for all our guests to be invited, our band, and dancing, the day exceeded our expectations.
The staff took all the safety protocols seriously to ensure our guests and their staff remained safe. We were impressed with every aspect of the planning, the execution, the service, and the food.
Also- our wedding cake from Sweetbakes was phenomenal.

My now husband and I got married at the Thayer Hotel on July 12, after having postponed our wedding from April. It was the best decision we made!
Getting married in the times of Corona certainly added a new layer of thoughtful planing... with a little creativity we managed to celebrate our wedding day with 45 people. The gorgeous lawn overseeing the Hudson River was the perfect backdrop for our "I do's". During cocktail hour guest enjoyed pre-packaged appetizers for food handling safety. The reception space was big compared to the number of guest. However, this allowed social distancing and the staff were true professionals when following safety protocols.
After postponing our wedding, I didn't feel much like a bride. However, the enthusiasm and vision from the staff at the Hotel made our wedding a dream!

We just had our wedding here. It was an amazing weekend. We and several of our guests checked in on Friday and we didn't leave until Monday, it was just a wonderful weekend.
Let's start at the beginning - Gina and Brianne in the sales department were wonderful. We set-up a couple of meetings, looked through the space and each time we sent an email (with many questions), it was answered in a timely manner.
Food - Chef Chris is incredible. So much good food. Our guests couldn't stop talking about how great the food not only in the restuarant, but at both the cocktail hour and reception.
We chose this venue because of its beauty and historical significance, but also the price we got was so much better than anything we were trying to do in the city. Having a winter wedding you are always concerned about weather, so having everything - ceremony, reception, and place for people to stay all in one building was a real positive note, not only for us, but both our families. Also, everything that is included from the food and bar to the linens. It really cut down on the number of vendors we have to work with.
The front desk staff was great and helpful, especially with our guests checking in and out all weekend. I had a cousin who had an issue with her dress and they even took care of that for her.
So why not 5 stars - Here are the small (very nit-picking) things that happened.
1) the reservation line - there were many inconsistencies when our guests called in to make a reservation in our room block. For example, a cousin called getting two rooms and he was told by a rep that there were no more queen rooms. His mother called 10 minutes later, spoke to a different rep and was able to get a queen room no problem. We had to make several corrections on room size, price, and dates of reservation. They should figure out a way to do this reservation online. I think it would streamline the process.
2) while the room we got was lovely, was it a bridal suite? What is shown online and what we got were not the same thing. As I said, our room was great, but advertising might be off.
3) our day of maitre-d was not as "on the ball" as everyone else we worked with was. It seemed that he didn't read any of the notes prior to our rehearsal. I think this because the first question asked was, "how many in your bridal party?" (the information was provided and reviewed with management). He also missed several details that we put time in to creating that were then not there during the reception. One my guests called him "unprofessional" in the way he spoke to guests and another called him "mediocre."
With those three things said, we had an incredible experience planning and executing a beautiful wedding and thank the great people at The Thayer for making it a wedding we will never forget. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
response 10/11/2021
We adored working with you both! The Thayer team (along with Chef Chris, Gina and Brianne...
) were proud to give you a turnkey solution for your day, and are thrilled that you and your guests loved the food and the entire wedding weekend. We didn't actually get married at the Thayer; we reserved our block of rooms there and used the restaurant for our rehearsal dinner and the rooftop bar for our after party. Having the Thayer as our hotel made the whole weekend feel really special; it's so grand and historic and our guests who had never been in the area were so impressed with of course the views, but also the quality of the rooms, and the restaurants. The staff was helpful and courteous and accommodating. Our only issue was with the rooftop bar, Zulu Time. I would absolutely NOT recommend booking it for an after party. We booked a private area for Sunday night after our reception because we wanted to party later than the bar would have otherwise stayed open. We paid a lot of money for that space- over $1000, and we were treated like we weren't wanted there. The bartender, who was also apparently the bar manager, wouldn't at first even let us play music, since apparently there was a lacrosse camp staying at the hotel that didn't want music being played? We finally convinced him to let us play some music but were told "nothing vulgar" and the volume was turned down to a whisper. Mind you, we were the only ones actually at the bar, there were no other outside bar patrons that we were disturbing. Also the exorbitant fee that we paid for the space got us a cash bar, which okay fine, and sandwich platters, which we assumed would be ample and fitting the price tag. We were pretty disappointed to be met with grocery store sandwiches and one bowl of plain potato chips. Of course you have to pay in full beforehand, or there would have been no way we would have agreed to pay the insane fee we did to basically get a snippy bartender, no music, and a couple of $20 sandwich platters. Save your money. We were really sad about that experience because the rest of our time at the Thayer was so wonderful.

We cannot fully express how perfect the Thayer was for our wedding. Everything about the Thayer was amazing, from the beginning when we toured our venue and through our actual wedding day. It was everything we hoped it would be. My husband and I, and our families, were treated so well the entire weekend, from the rehearsal dinner, to the reception, to the breakfast the next day. The whole staff made sure my husband and I were taken care of and went out of their way to make sure we got the drinks and food we wanted.
The grounds were the perfect spot for our first look. Plus, everyone loved taking pictures and hanging out outside during our cocktail hour. The grounds are beautiful.
The food was absolutely delicious. Everyone loved the food at the cocktail hour, including the hors d'oeuvres and the taco and pasta station, as well as all the food at dinner.
We worked with Carly, who was incredibly professional and helpful throughout the whole process. She answered all of my questions, gave me helpful information, and replied to all of my e-mails quickly. She was amazing to work with. My husband and I were planning our wedding from far out of state, so it was so wonderful to have someone so attentive to my questions and someone who answered my e-mails so promptly.
We also worked with Brianna, who was our day of
coordinator. She was awesome! She made sure all of our needs were met and answered all of my questions. She really made sure the day ran smoothly and everything was taken care of. She was friendly and helpful the whole night.
Overall, the Thayer was beautiful, the food was phenomenal, and the service we received was wonderful. Our guests had an amazing time, and we did as well.
We cannot recommend The Thayer enough! Thank you for making our wedding unforgettable and magical!!

Thank you thank you thank you to Joanna, Brianna, and every person at the Thayer who made our wedding a dream come true. Planning a wedding across the country was not ideal, however they made sure they were patient with every single request up until the big day. We felt so lucky to be taken care of throughout the entire weekend. Everything from the service, the decor, the food, the staff was amazing. It was the greatest weekend of our lives.

These folks do it RIGHT!!! We literally worried about nothing on our wedding day. They helped accommodate all of our extra / ancillary events too like dance classes and a trivia night. The food was outstanding, the staff made everything perfect and special. We would do it there a hundred times over.

The venue is absolutely gorgeous and the food is amazing!
I had a very hard time receiving quick responses from the coordinator. It would take almost a week if not longer to receive a response. If you are looking to get ready at the Thayer for the big day I highly recommend booking your room as soon as you sign the contract!
I didn’t have too much interaction with the maitre’ D and I felt as if we didn’t know what to do, how to line up or when to line up for the ceremony until minutes before the ceremony. We had very little interaction the day of. I also saw her kicking the decorations boxes after they set up the ceremony with the florist. It was extremely rude and not professional at all.
They also claimed one of the picture frames broke upon arriving to the Thayer, it’s possible but they also broke one of the florists center pieces that I rented and failed to tell me. I didn’t know it was broken until I had to return the piece back to my florist in which I had to pay for! They should have at least notified me. The communication deserves a 2 but the venue itself deserves a 5!
At the end of the day it didn’t ruin my wedding, it will be a day my husband and I will truly never forget and the beautiful scenery and venue and food was exactly what we needed! We received many complaints on the food and how pretty the hotel was! It truly was magical.

We just got married on September 22nd at the Thayer and it was PERFECT. The entire staff of the Thayer was so great to work with especially Brianna and Nicole. They were so accommodating and did everything they could to make sure we were happy with everything and well taken care of. Majority of our guests told us it was the most beautiful and fun wedding they've ever been to. The food was great, the service was great, and I can't recommend this venue enough!

My husband and I had our July wedding ceremony and reception at The Thayer Hotel and it was everything we hoped it would be!! The ceremony on the back lawn was set up beautifully overlooking the Hudson River and our reception in the Washington Ballroom allowed up to continue that view the whole night. The food and service was great. Our pictures around the grounds came out amazing and guests raved about every aspect of the venue!!
We worked with Joanna for majority of the planning process and she did such a wonderful job! She was quick to answer questions and really put us at ease letting us know our wedding would be exactly what we wanted. Brianna was our day of coordinator and also did a fantastic job. She was very attentive to our needs and set-up everything to perfection!
We could not be happier with this venue and those who helped us make our day so special!! Thank you Joanna, Brianna and the Thayer staff!!

My review on the Thayer is very split because the wedding that we held here was one of the best days of my Husband and I's life, and there is no place like the Thayer to experience West Point. Ultimately, we threw a beautiful event and I wouldn't have wanted it to be anywhere else.
With that said, working with the event planning staff at the Thayer was not always easy and in fact was the cause of the most stress of the entire wedding planning process. When we signed, we LOVED the woman we met with, she was understanding, attentive, cared about us as a couple and showed us how flexible the packages could be. Unfortunately she left for another opportunity before planning really got off the ground and the rest of those we encountered didn't seem to be on the same page at all. It would take weeks for a response to my questions, which I often had to ask multiple times, I got different answers from different people, and most of the time the answer was "no".
My main question since the beginning was around whether we could swap a station for a beverage upgrade (the house champagne is a $6 bottle that I couldn't stomach), but for weeks no one seemed to be able to give me a straight answer. Eventually I was able to connect with the sales manager and explain to her some of the things we were trying to get answers to. It took weeks to connect and when I pointed this out I was told "well we're talking now", no apology for not responding. We came to an agreement, but every minute of the interaction felt like an argument and like she was doing me a favor. I find it hard to understand that lack of professionalism in the service industry, particularly when a client is paying for a very high end event.
Ultimately, the Maitre D and day of team were amazing, as were the hotel staff. We will always love the Thayer, and I hope that the event team align their work to the status of such a beautiful place for a wedding.

We loved the scenery and setup at the Thayer and had no issues with the setup of our wedding ceremony or reception, but the servers at our sit down dinner of 100 were just OK. My mom’s wine glass was empty throughout our dinner despite listing her as a VIP on the questionnaire the Thayer sends out. Joanna, who did our coordination was very on it. All in all the experience was great, and we would have the wedding there again. I got great reviews on the rooms from our guests!

Our reception was held on May 19, 2018 in the Grant/Bradley room. Our wedding coordinator at the Thayer did everything on that day. I gave her the items like our favors and she coordinated with the florist and DJ and everything was set-up as I had envisioned. The Thayer offers a wide variety of food packages, we did the gold package and felt like we had more than enough food. The food was delicious and the entrée is cooked to order, which the guest enjoyed. The package comes with a cake from Homestyle Bakery. The bakery was easy to work with although I will say I didn’t love the cake. They use a frosting called bettercream which I didn’t personally care for. However, given that the cake was included in the price of the package it didn’t make sense to get the cake somewhere else and my guest did seem to like the cake. The night of our reception they provided us with the Hap Arnold Room where the wedding party could go to take a break. In that room they had our cocktail hour hors d’oeuvres, beer, wine and water. That was such a nice surprise we didn’t know was included, it was great to have a place to grab a quick bit and take a few moments before going to our cocktail hour.
Leading up to my wedding I was in constant contact with my coordinator who answered all of my questions. The only down side was that I had like 3-4 wedding coordinators throughout the year mainly due to internal promotions and one left to move back to her hometown. I don’t feel like anything slipped through the cracks but I was hard to keep up with who I was talking to sometimes. Our menu tasting was amazing, go with an empty stomach! The venue is gorgeous and felt very classic, it didn’t just feel like any old hotel ballroom. The hotel staff (especially the valets) were amazing I felt like everyone at the Thayer did their best to provide first-class service.

The Thayer Hotel was the most magical place to have our wedding! It really was just the most beautiful venue. When booking Elizabeth was so great and helpful. We were able to switch things around to work within our budget. We worked with both Gina & Nicole as our planners who were also wonderful. The transition from switching planners was seamless. Before the wedding we picked out our cake in Peekskill and also had our food tasting. We were able to bring four guests and the food/chef was outstanding!
On the day of the wedding everything went so perfectly. It was beyond my expectations. We got ready in the Presidential Suite (highly recommend - lots of space). We had breakfast ordered to the girls and guys rooms (small issue with guys breakfast coming late but it was fixed). We had a First Look out on the Washington Lawn which was breathtaking. As far as the reception, Brianna the maitre de really was so phenomenal! Everything ran so smoothly. The room was set up perfectly as we had discussed, the food was delicious. It was just a dream!! All of the guests loved the historic hotel as well. It was so great for our wedding to be part of an entire weekend - we had breakfast also the next day which was delicious.
I am truly grateful for the Thayer for my perfect day! I cannot thank them enough <3

I know wedding planning can be very time consuming so I will keep this short. Stop your search right now and have your wedding here. Our experience with Gina at the Thayer was nothing short of spectacular. We had a small outdoor ceremony followed by a reception in the Pershing room; the perfect setting for an intimate experience. The views are breathtaking, and everyone we worked with throughout our entire experience was incredibly helpful and accommodating. If you're looking for a great venue with a backdrop to match, then look no further.

We had our wedding in the Washington Ballroom on a Saturday Evening, no ceremony on the grounds, we were married in a church. There was another wedding going on at the same time upstairs. I'll start with this: the grounds are beautiful, we took our wedding photos around the grounds of West Point and they are stunning. But this review is about our reception, which was underwhelming and disappointing considering the enormous expense. Over the course of our "planning" with the Thayer, our point person changed three times. On our wedding day, the disorganization was incredible and it can definitely be partly attributed to that. But the most disappointing point of all: the food. First of all, an hour for the cocktail reception is way too short and anyone considering booking the Thayer should staunchly insist on a minimum of an hour and a half. My husband's family is in the restaurant business, so to say he was embarrassed by the food would be an understatement. There was another wedding going on in the upstairs ballroom, and our wedding was roughly 200 people so the kitchen definitely had to be organized to get things done right. All of the food came out cold - the pasta dish was stuck together, the meat wasn't cooked to anyone's specifications, the desserts and our wedding cake didn't make it to most of the tables, and the cappuccino machine that we paid significantly more to have was not used at all, as no guests were asked if they wanted espresso or cappucinnos - so we paid extra for nothing. Best of all, at the end of the night when I was exhausted and asked for an espresso (which wasn't offered to me at any point during the night), I was told they already turned the machine off and I couldn't get one. Also, we had chose signature drinks for our the bar - which weren't displayed so no one knew about them, and when I went up to order one it was the worst drink I've ever had. Best to stick to the basic drinks like a gin & tonic because I also don't think the bar tenders they staff for the weddings are the real deal. They touted themselves as having a world class kitchen staff trained at the Culinary Institute - suffice it to say that there was no evidence of that on our wedding day. Luckily, we had a phenomenal band and everyone danced all night so the night wasn't entirely wasted. But you pay for your reception and your focus is on the food. You pay an exorbitant amount per person to have it done right, and it was such a let down. I went to events at standard catering halls that had better food - it was just so disappointing. After the wedding, we communicated this plus much more (I could go on for pages) to the Thayer, their response was that they had too many events that night and their head chef was out that Saturday so that's why it all happened that way- seriously? You charge a ton, then your head chef isn't there overseeing it? Who knows if that was even true. Needless to say, their response to us after the wedding was equally disappointing. We didn't get reimbursed for everything we paid for that wasn't there, and they promised us other accommodations which, suffice it to say, turned out to be more of a hassle and additional frustrations and disappointments with the Thayer that we did not need. I'm hoping they've addressed the issues since, but my advice to anyone considering or booking their reception - be 100% on top of them up to the day of and during your wedding. They need the supervision for you to get your money's worth.

We had the BEST day at the Thayer Hotel! We only looked at 4 venues when we got engaged and fell in love the second we drove up to the hotel. The sales consultant we worked with is no longer with the Thayer, but I would assume that the experience is still the same... many of the venues we looked at were not flexible regarding some options we wanted to have, but the Thayer was quick to explain what we could work out rather than just a flat no. Once we got to the planning stages, we worked with Joanna and Gina, both of whom were incredible to work with. I never had to wait more than 24 hours for a response to any questions I had and they were both so accommodating to our requests and inquiries. Our Maitre D and the rest of the staff on our wedding day were also phenomenal. Many of our guests have commented to us about the quality of service they received. Now - THE FOOD!!!!!! I can't rave enough! My husband typically never orders steaks at a wedding because he is always frustrated that they are not evenly/properly cooked. Even he was blown away at the quality of the steaks at our wedding - everyone's was cooked perfectly! The cocktail hour food was also delicious and very well-prepared, we've received many comments on this so our compliments to the chef! My husband and I can't say enough nice words about the Thayer Hotel and everyone who worked there on our wedding day :) Thank you for helping make our day perfect!!!
