A Playful Wedding at Uppercut Boxing Gym in Minneapolis, Minnesota
Newlyweds Sabrina Walters (29 and in marketing) and Matthew Edens (35 and in IT) initially exchanged a few short messages on Match.com before they both unintentionally ran into one another at the Minneapolis Moustache Run. "As I crossed the finish line, I heard someone call my name," Sabrina recalls. "I saw a guy I didn't recognize and he went on to introduce himself. It took a lot of guts for him to approach me without being 100-percent sure that it was actually me." For their fall wedding in the city, the couple quickly settled on an unconventional venue with industrial charm. "We got married at Uppercut Boxing Gym because it worked well with my design interests," the bride explains. "The space had an open concept and I was so inspired by the warehouse space. It was easy for me to work with the vintage construction that included lots of brick, concrete and tarnished ceiling beams." After the couple hit the gym to exchange vows, 100 guests were kept busy with a Brasa-catered dinner, photo booth and an arts and crafts station. "There was something for everyone," Sabrina says. "We wanted to keep people entertained no matter their interests -- plus there were a lot of kids in attendance." A simple color palette of gold and gray was spun throughout the space with details that included gray block letters and gold-framed table numbers. Despite the bride's favorite color combination, two tiny details stuck out to her most: "I loved my gnome cake toppers," she says. "I ordered them on Etsy and loved the playfulness that they represented." With plenty of hours of prep put into her special day, Sabrina was satisfied with the end result. "No matter how many hours of prep I put into this wedding, it was so important to me that the day be fun for my guests and both my husband and I," she says. "I think we accomplished just that -- it was a fun event our loved ones will always remember."
