Mill Creek Park, the largest area of the MetroParks, encompasses more than 2,900 acres. Visitors can enjoy a wide range of activities and sites throughout these diverse lands. Take a leisurely walk through a magnificent formal gardens and visitor center, tour a historic grist mill, participate in classes and special events, view natural habitats with abundant wildlife, schedule a trolley tour, or just enjoy the many scenic vistas. Recreational opportunities include hiking, biking, boating, fishing, golfing, tennis, volleyball, picnicking, cross country skiing, sledding, and much more.
Termed “America’s Museum,” the Butler Institute is devoted to celebrating America’s visual arts heritage. Founded in 1919, the Butler is one of the earliest museums dedicated exclusively to collecting, exhibiting, and preserving the art of America’s past, present, and future. The Butler’s collection is one of America’s treasures and is known and admired throughout the world.
Greystone, the magnificent 1905 Arts & Crafts-style residence of Wilford and Olive F. A. Arms, is preserved a century later as the Arms Family Museum of Local History. The first floor of this historical home features original period rooms that highlight the Arms’ love of handicraft, medieval architecture and the natural environment.
The lower level and second floor showcase a complete history of life in the Mahoning Valley, from the earliest evidence of human habitation in Mahoning County to yesterday’s fads.

One of Mahoning County’s most historic landmarks, Lanterman’s Mill was built in 1845-46 by German Lanterman and Samuel Kimberly. Restored in 1982-85 through a gift from the Ward and Florence Beecher Foundations, this community treasure represents one of the many pioneer industries developed along Mill Creek and operates today as it did in the 1800s, grinding corn, wheat, and buckwheat.
Visit Lanterman’s Mill and step into the past. Observe the pioneer ingenuity involved in the early production of meal and flour, smell the sweet aroma of freshly ground grains, and feel the rumbling vibrations of the massive stones as the various grains are ground. Browse the gift shop located in the Mill to find unique items featuring Mill Creek MetroParks swag for both adults and kids, nature-inspired jewelry, candles, various drinkware, eco-friendly gifts and so much more. Our stone-ground cornmeal, buckwheat, and whole wheat flour are preservative-free and can be purchased in the gift shop.
