Moderate 4.7 mile out and back with 810 ft of elevation. The trail tends to get pretty muddy, but the view at the end is worth it! Excellent whale watching spot.
Moderate hike. This sandstone headland just north of Pacific City offers one of the best viewpoints on the coast for witnessing the ocean's power. The landmark is one of three along the Three Capes Scenic Route (along with Cape Meares and Cape Lookout). Your steep climb up the towering dune will be rewarded with scenes of waves pummeling rugged, twisting rocks and crevices.
Easy Hikes. More than four miles of trails loop through forestland and marshland and lead to a quiet beach.
Easy paved 0.2 mile path to lighthouse and giftshop, trail to beach and “Octopus” tree, and Big Spruce (Oregon’s largest Sitka Spruce). Cape Mears National Wildlife Refuge is one of the last stands of Oregon old-growth coastal forest. It is a good place to see pelagic birds and peregrine falcons nesting.
Easy hike. Munson Creek Falls tumbles 319' over several tiers, making it the tallest waterfall in the Coast Range. A short trail winds along Munson Creek through an old-growth forest to a viewpoint of the waterfall. The ¼ mile trail is accessible for all ages and every level of hiking enthusiast.
Other Hikes:
Netarts Spit – Best at low tide, look for sand dollars. 10 mile out and back trail.
Mt Hebo – 5 miles E of Hebo, 5.6 mi hike with 728’ elevation gain to the tallest peak in the Coast Range. On clear day you may see Mt Ranier, Mt St Helens, Adams, Hood, Jefferson, and the sisters.
Neahkahnie Mountain – near Manzanita, 4.2 mile hike with 1,223’ elevation gain. Steep in several sections. Great views of the coastal town of Manzanita and Nehalem Bay.
