Chris and Courtney were introduced by friends, and there’s nothing more fitting for this couple. Above and beyond all else, these two value their community. They’d go to the ends of the earth for their friends and family, and if you’re reading this right now, you’re a part of their world.&nbsp; Their first date exemplified their unique budding synergy. The two met for dinner at Corner Social, a local Harlem favorite. From there, not wanting the night to end, Courtney took Chris on a tour of Harlem’s nightlife, the best bars and restaurants in the neighborhood. Chris had lived uptown his whole life and, of course, had not once taken the time to check out any new restaurants. Courtney, on the other hand, was on a first name basis with every bartender in Harlem.&nbsp; Early on in their relationship, the COVID-19 pandemic brought the world to screeching halt. With normal operations temporarily shut down, the traditional millennial date options were off the table. Chris and Courtney couldn’t rely on bar hopping and boozy brunches to continue to get to know one another. In order for their relationship to work, the two quickly realized they would need to make their own fun. So they spent time exploring each other's interests and the city around them. They took Citi-bike rides around Manhattan, where Chris first experienced Courtney’s road rage first hand. After a sandwich and a few deep breaths, Chris learned the fastest way to calm Courtney down is with a snack. They discovered that they enjoyed being travel companions. They took hikes in upstate New York and long walks to Trader Joes. And when they weren’t together physically, they kept close by playing online Scrabble, where Courtney learned Chris’s ruthlessly competitive nature (which he happily attributes to his Grandma.) In the summer of 2020, the two decided they were ready for the next level. They packed up the car and headed down south, where one by one Courtney met nearly all of Chris’ relatives. They rode to Scranton Pa, where Courtney met Charlene, Chris’s sister. They rode to North Carolina to spend time with the Buttones, Browns, and Davids, Chris’ extended family. They also dropped into DC, where Chris met Courtney’s Mom, Granny, and Mr. Eddie. In order to commit to one another, they knew they’d need to commit to the people who loved them most. This was non negotiable. In February of 2021, on a snowy day in Harlem, they moved in together. Tired of the long trek between apartments, they agreed that life would be better spent together. To do this, Chris packed his studio apartment up, and moved his things from the 2nd floor to the 7th. Courtney’s move was a bit longer, and packing required her to actually look through her own closet for the first time. Dozens of careful car trips and a few weeks later, on the first night in their new apartment, they celebrated their milestone with champagne and fried chicken. Since then, the milestones have kept coming, and the adventures too. They still go upstate to escape the city and explore the countryside together, occasionally picking apples that could have easily been purchased at the local grocery store ( but where's the fun in that?) They love to spend weekends visiting friends and family from Miami to Seattle, pack up the car for impromptu beach days, and share intimate dinner parties and jam sessions with friends. And in November 2021, just two days before hosting their first Thanksgiving in their new home, Chris took Courtney to a local Harlem speakeasy and asked Courtney to marry him.&nbsp; ﻿Since then, they’ve kept themselves busy having R&amp;B singalongs, private dance parties in the apartment, and tending to their growing plant collection. They adopted a dog, Maxwell, the furriest member of their growing family. And they look forward to creating new memories with you in April as they start their biggest adventure yet.
