About Waikiki
Located on the south shore of Honolulu, Waikiki is famous for its beaches and most hotel rooms are just two or three blocks away from the ocean. Waikiki is very close in distance to a variety of Oahu attractions, including Pearl Harbor, Iolani Palace, the Nuuanu Pali Lookout, Honolulu Zoo, and Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve, a marine life conservation district; something for the whole family.
Where should we stay?
Check out our accommodation page!
We recommend coming a couple days before the wedding and treating yourself to a few days after the wedding to recover! With plenty to do, we are sure you can fill your schedule up with other fun activities on the other days you are in Hawaii.
About the venue
The ceremony will take place at AKALA Chapel in Waikiki, Hawaii. The chapel is located in the Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort in Waikiki.
The reception will take place at Cafe Julia at YWCA which is a ten minute drive/uber/lyft from the ceremony location.
When and for how long should I come to Hawaii?
A number of guests, including the bride and groom, are arriving in Hawaii a few days before the wedding and staying a few days afterwards. The bride and groom are not rushing off to their honeymoon after the wedding and will be in Hawaii for a few days after.
Flights from New Zealand are ramping up but not currently operating every day of the week.
Flights within America are readily available.
We are more than happy to share with you other guests travel plans so please don't hesitate to reach out to Mikaela or Darren to find out more.
Keep your eye out on the accommodation page as the list will grow with recommendations when other guests confirm their stay. (with their permission!)
Is there parking at the ceremony and reception?
Ceremony - street parking is available, however we recommend you contact the Hilton Hawaiian Village if you require a parking spot.
Reception - Cafe Julia - paid on street parking is available.
Will the ceremony and reception take place indoors or outdoors?
The ceremony will take place indoors.
The reception will take place outdoors if the weather is nice. However, should it rain, we do have an indoor option available at the venue.
What happens after the ceremony?
After the ceremony, the bridal party will leave to take photos and to make their way to Cafe Julia. Guests can make their way to Cafe Julia for a 5pm cocktail hour start. The Iolani Palace is opposite Cafe Julia for any guest who arrive early and would like to check out some of the local sights.
What is the dress code?
We have chosen semi-formal or dressy casual (summer). It is Hawaii in the middle of summer so we don't expect that you wear a suit and tie. Button up shirts, cotton/linen shirts, summer semi-formal dresses are all great options- dress for a summer wedding. We would like people to be comfortable.
What time should I arrive?
Please arrive to the AKALA Chapel between 2:40PM - 2:50PM for everyone to be seated by 2:50PM. We do have a strict time schedule with the chapel so the ceremony will begin at 3PM.
Cafe Julia will be open from 5PM for guests to enjoy cocktail hour.
Will food and drinks be served at the reception? What kind of food?
Yes! Full buffet dinner will be provided plus nibbles at cocktail hour. We will have an open bar! (woohoo!) Guest are welcome to BYO special spirits/liquor. We have our own bar so this can be reserved with prior notice.
Can I take and post pictures of the wedding on social media?
Yes, we just ask that you don't post photos of the bride and groom until they have done so themselves.
More questions?
We have more answers! If you have any other questions, please feel free to text or call the bride and groom - we would love to hear from you!
