In May 2016, a southern boy from Virginia, bright eyed and bushy tailed, eagerly ships up to Boston to realize his dream of becoming a scientist. Wasting no time trying to make new "friends", he hops on the app best known for its firey connections, Tinder.
Determined to form new connections in a city renowned for its Northern hospitality, Matt enthusiastically swiped right waiting for what felt like an eternity for someone to return the favor.
That same spring, Elaine, who had just graduated from college, was looking to escape the reality that she moved back in with her parents, decided to distract herself with the same app. Mindlessly swiping left and right, she stumbled across someone that peaked her interest. Swiping right revealed that it was a match. Her heart skipped a beat as she sent the first message answering a question he posed in his bio...
"Just for the record, it is still a douchey mirror selfie even if you're hungover".
Unknowingly, that first message would spark the most unexpected but rewarding and fulfilling journey of building a life together. Over the past seven years, Elaine and Matt have called Boston their home (despite constantly needing to defend their homes from rats, #ratcity), traveled to across the globe, chased waterfalls from the peaks of New Hampshire to the canyons of the Southwest, celebrated many life milestones, braved COVID, and adopted their beloved "Labrador Mix" dog, Kenny.
This past June during their Europe trip, after a treacherous, cold, and slippery hike along the iron rails in the Italian Dolomites (Mo really made Elaine work for it) Mo proposes to Elaine. Through the ugly cry and tears, Elaine undoubtedly said yes, securing a lifetime of many more adventures and milestones.
