Our story begins at the most romantic place in the whole world: the United States Air Force Academy. We met flying gliders in the fall of 2020. Katharine quickly developed a crush on John - mostly because he had a car that he was willing to let her borrow. On one trip to John's dorm room to collect the car keys, Katharine found John sitting alone in his room with ice packs on his cheeks. Out of an abundance of pity, Katharine stayed with John helped him though the recovery from his life threatening surgery (wisdom teeth removal). John was surprised by a side of Katharine he hadn't seen before, and he has been in love with her ever since.
Since then, we have been inseparable. Whether it was eating pancakes in our dorm rooms to cure a hangover, going to Hooters at the Colorado Springs Mall (because John had a gift card), or spending hours on the phone to keep John awake while he drove around the country on 60 days, we always found a reason to be in each other's company.
When we started officially dating in July of 2021, it felt like we had known each other our whole lives. We spent the first year of our relationship exploring Colorado and getting to know each other outside of the USAFA bubble. John taught Katharine to ski, which is a testament to our resiliency as a couple considering Katharine's impatience. Katharine introduced John to the concept of a clothes hamper and having sheets on his bed.
When John went to Laughlin AFB in Del Rio, TX, it began the saga of our 3-years of long distance. Thanks to the power of modern technology, an efficient postal service, and moderately priced airfare, our relationship has not only survived the distance, it has flourished.
In the year leading up to our wedding, John has been completing his training at Holloman AFB in Alamogordo, NM, while Katharine has been working at her first assignment at Altus AFB in Altus, OK. That's an 8 hour drive through the most barren part of the country, for those of you wondering.
After so long apart, we are looking forward to finally being together, enjoying the sacrament of marriage, and celebrating with the people that mean the most to us! Whether you can join so to celebrate or not, we want to take a moment to appreciate each and every one of you (who read this far) for supporting us through everything. We love you and thank you!
Cheers to forever!
