Our Story

A story of a Chinese-Cambodian meeting an Irish-American

Our story starts with Kea on her five week vacation in Southeast Asia. A Hinge notification pops up when she was getting ready for her breakfast. Ta-da! Andrew liked your picture!

As many of you who have used dating apps know, we begin with exchanging (boring) conversations. So, lets fast forward to the first date. It was a very cold winter night and Drew was running slightly late. Kea was freezing and needed to use the candle on their restaurant table to warm up. This was the first lesson that Drew learned - never let Kea wait in the cold weather ever again. Believe it or not, the second date was the next day! Followed by more dates, weddings of good friends, grocery shopping trips, family reunions, etc. The one thing that everyone knows about Drew is he does not run out of things to say. But the good thing is Kea doesn’t talk much and has a selective hearing superpower- what a wonderful combination! Drew was the first guy that Kea met who likes putting on a face masks even more than she does! And Kea was the first girl that Andrew met who could make him smile naturally in front of a camera and learn another language- he thanks God every day for bringing her into his life.

Over time, Kea has gained a lot of knowledge about American football and many other sports, which she never had interest in. And Drew has gained another bro. Just kidding, Drew has learned to speak Mandarin, use chopsticks and say “Aiyo!” all the time. He even got a compliment from a Chinese waitress for ordering food in Mandarin one day, which he is very proud of! He refers to them as Ga Gi Nang,自己人 (our own people in Teo-chew).

Fast forward to Chinese New Year of 2024, and an idea pops up in Andrew’s head. He surprised Kea on one knee with a ring at the spot where he picked Kea up on their first date. It was a surprise as Kea always wanted because she was in her Pjs. It was a memorable day after all.

And their story will continue happily ever after...
