How we met:

The short story:&nbsp;Craigslist 2011







The long&nbsp;story: While in undergrad at Colorado State University, Kristine needed a third roommate to live with in a house she and a friend were renting after their other roommate moved last minute before moving in. This led to the Craigslist ad that Joey, along with 42 other people, responded to. We first met at Starbucks in Fort Collins, CO - Joey was wearing his classic giraffe print sunglasses and went on a rant about how mayonnaise is the devil's condiment. Joey moved in a couple of weeks later, but it wasn't until April 2012 that Joey announced one morning that "maybe we should start&nbsp;dating".

The Best Thing We've Found on Craigslist

After many years together, it became a running joke that Joey would have to propose in a very unexpected situation (think grocery store or while paying bills together) to surprise Kristine. On October 27, 2018, Joey found his moment. Kristine was working in a cancer research lab at the University of Minnesota, and during one of Joey's weekend trips to MN, she needed to stop by the lab quickly to set up some experiments. Kristine was working in a chemical fume hood (<a href="https://www.google.com/search?q=person+working+in+chemical+fume+hood&tbm=isch&ved=2ahUKEwiF7ejZ5p3zAhW3JjQIHe2nCwcQ2-cCegQIABAA&oq=person+working+in+chemical+fume+hood&gs_lcp=CgNpbWcQA1DuBVjBDGDuDmgBcAB4AoAB4AKIAcoHkgEHMi4yLjEuMZgBAKABAaoBC2d3cy13aXotaW1nwAEB&sclient=img&ei=eANRYYXRMbfN0PEP7c-uOA&bih=598&biw=1144" target="_blank">reference here</a>) when Joey decided to make his move.&nbsp;Joey had strict instructions to "not touch anything" because of the chemicals contained in the lab, so he did not get down on one knee, but rather just nonchalantly asked "will you marry me?" Kristine, answering with her usual poise and grace, responded, "shut up, shut up, shut the f*** up,"&nbsp;and when asked if that was a yes, she finally responded with "of course".

Hotels in Ketchum

Ketchum is the closest town to the camp (~20 minute drive) that has multiple hotels. The hotels we have room deals with are:

1. Best Western Tyrolean Lodge























- While there is not an official "room block" reserved, if you call the hotel and book with them directly (i.e. not through a third party booking agency), you can get 10% off any room rate. The discount is good for 5 days prior to and 5 days after the wedding date.&nbsp;























- How to: call (208)-726-5336, extension 0 (do not press the extension for reservations - you want to speak to the front desk at the hotel) and say you are booking a reservation for the Walters-Gerhards wedding.

Camp Cabins

&nbsp; &nbsp;- There are 12 cabins at the 4-H camp that are available to any guests that would like to use them, free of charge! You can stay both Friday, 9/23 and Saturday, 9/24 night. 















- The cabins are rustic - there are bunk beds with sleeping pads, but your own bedding is needed. We are happy to help coordinate this for you if you are flying out and don't have a lot of extra space for bedding.&nbsp;There is lighting and electricity, but no&nbsp;heating or cooling in the cabins, and September in Sun Valley can have unpredictable temperatures.



















-&nbsp;A camp-style bathroom and shower facility are located on site (bring shower shoes!)

There are a variety of AirBnB options in the surrounding area on the AirBnB website. If you are thinking of this option (or other hotel options), we encourage you to reserve a room or space as soon as possible. Ketchum is a popular destination and space fills up quickly there!

What to wear

We want you to feel like your best self while you celebrate with us! Overall, dress is casual to cocktail attire.&nbsp;The thing to know about fall in the mountains, is that the weather&nbsp;can be a bit unpredictable (think anywhere from 10F to&nbsp;95F) and at least part of the day will be spent outside (weather permitting). Average temperatures are generally around the 70's during the day, but can drop into the 30's once the sun goes down.&nbsp; For clothes, we suggest layers for appropriate temperature regulation.&nbsp;Also, the camp doesn't always have flat or paved surfaces.&nbsp;&nbsp;Flat shoes (what&nbsp;the bride will be wearing&nbsp;because we all know she is a fall risk in the best of circumstances) or shoes with a wide base - think wedges, not Stilettos - are recommended.

Is there transport to and from the venue?

Of course!&nbsp;We have a coach bus that can seat ~50 people at a time that will be making trips from the hotels (Hotel Ketchum or Best Western Tyrolean lodge). There will be multiple trips back after the ceremony/reception to the hotels as well. If you choose to stay at another location, you will need to go to either hotel to catch the bus.

What about cell service?

There is absolutely NO cell reception at the camp. A cell signal is typically lost just a few miles outside of Ketchum, so if you plan to navigate yourself to the venue, make sure you have maps that do not rely on your GPS.

Getting to Idaho

Boise International Airport&nbsp;is the biggest airport in the state and about three&nbsp;hour drive to Ketchum. Boise typically offers the most affordable flights,&nbsp;and there are a number of car rental agencies at the airport. There is a small airport just outside of Ketchum, The Friedman Memorial Airport (SUN), however it will most likely be more expensive than flying to Boise, but worth a quick search.
