We're so happy to have our closest friends and family in Orange County! We've listed some of our favorite things to do in the area.
Renting a Duffy boat in Newport is hands down our favorite thing to do when we are in California! Duffy boats are electric and super easy to handle, you don't need a boat license to drive one. You can rent a Duffy boat for 2 - 4 hours and have up to 10 (some places 12) people on board. Our favorite thing to do is bring a charcuterie board and beverages and cruise around the harbor for sunset with friends. There are other great companies that offer Duffy boat rentals, but we have experience booking with the one listed here.
This is my (Rachel's) favorite beach! You can park on the street outside of the Montage Beach Resort. After parking, go down the stairs towards the grass, go right, and there are stairs to go down to the beach. The water at this beach is extremely clear with a pretty turquoise color and the waves are small and don't crash so it is perfect to relax in.
Crescent Bay is Jon's favorite beach! The water here is so clear and blue, it is stunning. You can also usually see sand sharks since the water is so clear. The waves can get much bigger here and are very powerful so just be mindful when you are out in the water. For this beach, you will need to park in the neighborhood surrounding the beach. Even if you don't go down to the beach, we highly recommend going to Crescent Bay Park Point (where I took this picture). The views are fantastic and we have seen dolphins on multiple occasions from there. You can park in the neighborhood next to the park.
We love riding bikes in Newport along the beach. There are plenty of different places you can rent bikes from. We recommend parking at the Balboa Pier parking lot and riding North. Another great option is parking at the Newport Pier and renting from a shop up there. Huntington Beach also has a great bike path with a lot of rental options. There are also spots with restaurants along the bike path in Newport and Huntington so we enjoy riding bikes to lunch and then back.
Our favorite restaurant is The Cliff in Laguna Beach. The Cliff is right on the beach with amazing views of Laguna's coast.
If you're looking for a nice steakhouse, Jon's favorite is (of course) Selanne's.
Our favorite spot to watch the sunset is at the San Clemente Pier! We highly recommend going to South Swell Hand Dipped Ice Cream before and bringing your ice cream down to the pier to enjoy during sunset.
