Our Story

Our Story

His Version:
A warm night out with friends that lead to something so much bigger than we could ever hope to have happened. Like most nights, a group of friends and I were out at our favorite bar, 1899, and it was like any normal night having a few drinks and catching up. At that time on the patio, my friends went up to get another drink and miraculously this beautiful girl comes up to me somehow and starts to chat me up. Awkwardly, I had no idea how to react because she caught me by such surprise, but I was interested right away. As we were talking her friends pulled her back aside and of course the chase began. She asked for a drink from me, so of course to see if this was the real deal I had to give Alli a test. In that particular night it was a shot of Jägermeister...... to my surprise Alli took it like a champ and walked to the next bar. Naturally, I was impressed and had to follow. We met again at the next bar and continued talking and had a drink. When I thought things were going well, I clumsily leaned in for a kiss and she dodged me right away while looking at me saying I don't even know your last name so probably the only time I've ever been smooth with a woman in my life I just said well gimme your phone so that you can have it saved. She smiled, handed me her phone, and that night became one that we both will never forget.

Her Version:
So one Friday or Saturday night in summer of 2018, my friends and I went to our favorite DTW bar 1899… At the time, Paulina was dating Nick. So naturally, Nick was hanging out with his friends, and Paulina was hanging out with Nick and his friends, so that meant I was forced into hanging out with Nick and his friends. I knew some of them, Sal was there, etc. We were all standing around drinking and talking in a big circle. After a while, the circle kept getting smaller and smaller, and then sooner or later I couldn’t find Paulina or Nick, and I was surrounded by a bunch of guys, who were talking about sports or whatever. I didn’t really know anyone but Sal, but he was in deep conversation with someone, so I picked the cutest guy (who I later learned was Vince) and went up to him. I said hi, we started talking, and he said something along the lines of “let’s go up to the bar, I’m gunna buy you a drink.” And I was thinking yeah, sure, sweet, free drink. Turns out this guy I just met buys me the nastiest shot I’ve ever taken in my life, ew, but I found Paulina again, so she whisked me off somewhere else and that was that. Talked to a cute guy, free drink, how could the night get any better?

We ended up going to a different bar, Frank & Tony’s, and in comes Vince, Sal, and their buddies. Vince and I started talking again, and he tried to kiss me, and I said “woah buddy, I don’t even know your last name.” Vince, being the smooth guy that he is, says “give me your phone, let me fix that.” So he puts his number in my phone, along with his last name. I went back to Paulina, and of course gushed to her about this totally hot guy giving me his number, and we went on with our night.

The next day, Vince texts me, and we start texting back and forth, and we make plans to go to the Cleveland art museum on Monday. Cool. Monday rolls around, and I do my hair and makeup and put on a dress and drive to the art museum, because I have to work at Forever 21 at like 2pm that day. So we park our cars and meet on the walk up to the museum. Turns out, the museum was closed that day (awkward, lol), so our first date was a bust. Vince suggests we make the most of it, and go sit at the picnic tables across from the museum and just talk. I say okay, because I got all ready for this, I’m not going to just go back home obviously. We ended up talking for hours, and the rest is history. We started officially dating 8.8.18, and moved in together 12.19.19, and got engaged on 10.7.23.

The Proposal

Her Version:

So it’s a Saturday in October, and Vince and I are going to Patterson’s. Since we started dating, we always went and got pumpkins for Halloween, and then we carve them together, and it’s a cute date thing we do each year. We were trying to find a time to do it, because it’s a Saturday, and Vince works Saturdays, but he’s going in late today so we have a few hours to go get our pumpkins and take some cute fall pics. Of course he's rushing me, because he "has to work" so I get ready and I put on the tiniest bit of makeup because we are gunna be taking cute Patterson’s pictures with our pumpkins so I have to at least look a little nice. I throw on leggings and a sweater and we head out the door. We drive to Patterson's, everything is normal, and we get there and we take our usual stroll around through the pretty scenery while holding hands. It’s a little rainy, but I love the rain, so I am all good to keep walking

Now, it’s early October, still early fall, so as we are walking through the paths, the bushes/shrubs are a little overgrown over the sidewalk. So naturally, Vince lets go of my hand and lets me walk through first. For a while he’s walking just behind me, and I hear his footsteps, and all is normal. Then after a few steps of silence, I notice that I don’t hear him walking behind me anymore. So I’m like “what the heck” and so I turn around. Vince us down on one knee underneath a pretty tree with a ring box in his hands. I, of course, was completely shocked and excited and happy and there were so many emotions flowing in that moment. He asked, and of course I said yes, and everything about the proposal was absolutely perfect in every way.

His Version:

A cloudy fall day, Alli's favorite, I had decided that this Saturday was going to be the day I asked her to marry me. Our autumn tradition is a week or two before Halloween we both go to Patterson's Fruit Farm in Chesterland to pick our own pumpkins for Jack-O-Lanterns to show on the front porch for our trick or treaters on Halloween night. Now the gods may have been with me that morning because of those of you that know Patterson's, it typically will have hundreds of families and small children doing the same task Alli and I do every year around Halloween time. That morning there was some wind in the air and a light rainfall that deterred some patrons that day.

When we first arrived Alli wanted to pick right away so I had to subtly steer us toward the walking paths behind the building where I planned to do the proposal. She of course agreed smiling saying sure love lets go for a little walk before we pick. As we walked down the hill as the path began my nervousness started to spike because I had not completely picked a spot to get down on a knee. So naturally I just tried to choose the most romantic spot possible on the way back. After the halfway point of the trail there was an overhanging tree that lead to a narrowing of the walking path, Aha perfect spot! So on our way back toward the building to pick our pumpkins on this perfect Saturday morning before the path widened and as the lightest sprinkle of rain began to come down I let my girlfriend walk in front of me, got down on one knee, she stopped hearing my footsteps and turned around, and when I stood up my girlfriend of five years had become my fiancé.
